"pop" sound from airbox

I'm getting loud pop sound through throttle body with quick throttle response from idle. Slow throttle response-runs o.k. Above idle a quick throttle response is o.k. Can anyone tell me what's wrong? Riding a Honda Steed 400. Thanks!

Time to do a valve clearance check. The inlet valve(s) clearance is probably out which allows some backfiring into the air box during sudden accelerations.

 

The inlet valve(s) is not fully closed or seated during the combustion stroke and the combustion gases are 'leaking' past the inlet valve back into the airbox.

 

Disclaimer: This is my own personal postulation of what is probably happening with your bike based on my experience and what information you are providing. Or it could even be an overlean tuning problem.

Thanks Raptor for the reply.. My guess too was lean mixture, but in the end it was just faulty spark plug.. I think it's a good time to check if my valve clearance is still within the spec..

The mixture is too rich... it is back firing... I think you have changed exhaust? Happens to my previous bike
