nay. this is the proper way of cleaning your chain. let stop the arguement:p

I buy new chain and fix myself still cheaper than dismantling everything and buying all the chemicals and stuff...

This thread is still alive?

Manual for me. I like to get intimate with my bikes.

It does not take 2 hours to clean a chain. A squirt bottle of solvent, a toothbrush and another squirt bottle of lube makes quick work of your chain. 15 minutes is enough.

The past year i dont even clean my chain. I just saturate the chain with engine oil every week. It helps that my chain is fully enclosed. Last chain survived for 2.5 years before the sprockets showed signs of wear. Current one is 1.5 years old. And dont tell me its because i dont travel much, for the past year i had to deal with a digital odometer stuck at 99,999KM.

Auto lubers are fine. Some of us just prefer to do the manual way. Manual or auto, both have its benefits and downsides, but neither is wrong. Lets leave it as that.

Suzuki GSXR-400 (2008 - 2009)

Piaggio Vespa GT 200L (2009 - 2011)

oilers do a great job..

manual also ...

as long as there is enough lube..the chains will be okay..

the important thing to remember is that will the manual lubing will last the distanced travelled until the next cleaning and oiling session..

this is where the oiler is more superior..

manually lube chains...the majority of lube will be thrown off on the first ride ..will there be still lube ?? on subsequent rides to do the job before the next lubing session??

oilers just oil your chains continuosly on every ride..thus lubing the chain whenever u ride..

thats the reason why oilers users are experiencing extended chain/sprocket lifes...5x have been regularly mentioned..

it is alive because cleaning and oiling chains is one of the important maintenace task which most of us dislike as it is a hassle dirty and time consuming..

...dont do this properly will result in lousy ride and $$$$$$$$$ in chain/sprocket replacement frequently..

i use muc-off dry chain cleaner.. from motoworld. spray onto chain and u can see instant results. and it dries off quickly too, so u can lube ur chain after that. works well for me

i prefer to do manual clean n lube, cos i get to check on the condition of my chain n sprocket regularly..

Hi ezzyoiler, i am sure with Wheel Jockey, it will take you even lesser time to clean your rims. It allows you to clean rims without putting more effort to push your bikes forth and aft. It can be use for both front and rear wheels, which distinct Wheel Jockey from other products in the market. It reduces your workload, your risk of bikes falling, your pocket damages by buying more expensive tools to jack up your bike. You can visit web which has a clip to show how it works. Or you can arrange for a free trial session, no obligations. Terms and conditions apply.

Hi guys, just get the Chain Doc from Muc-off at Motoworld (or elsewhere?).

http://www.muc-off.com/shop/product.php?id=3

I used to spend something like 1 back breaking hour or more just to get the sh*t off the chain.

Then i bought the Chain Doc at a road show and it is probably the best $50 (or so) I ever spent.

Not cheap, but I guess my time is better spend elsewhere. :)

Nowadays, got it done in 5-10 mins.

Ya, the chain doc only clears the chain of the muck and assorted sh*t.

After that need to apply the chain lube as per norm.

Personally, I would get the Wheel Jockey because it works for both the front and rear wheel. Really love the concept, getting one of em soon!

i recommend it as well.. use it on my phantom, which is naturally difficult to balance on a scissor jack (well. at least for my phantom)... but it will take u a couple of uses to get used to hw ur bike will sit stable.. expensive, but at least u can use it on all bikes n the quality is great..

A ride a day, keeps the doctor away!

Just a quick check - do you literally scrub off the chain/sprocket until it is almost grime-free?
