Hehe,

I have clocked 120km, will send for oil changing when reaching 500km.

Anyway, I cant really tell whether the oil is sucky or not cos my first bike, hence not much experience in this kinda stuff.

By the way, you sent it to hong leong or your regular bike shop?

How much did the 3 can of mineral based oil cost ya?

First of all, no need to send to Hong Leong for minor servicing like changing engine oil. Furthermore, HL oni offers Shell oil.

I go to my regular workshop - Ah Koon @ Depot Road. I use Elf mineral based engine oil. Furthermore, XJR oni need 2 bottles....kekeke..not 3.

I find Elf mineral-based engine oil good....20W50, juz nice for run-in.

Run-in use rpm to gauge, dun use speed to gauge ur run-in.

Example:

First 30km, I go below 4k rpm but occasionally, sudden rev it up (kinda use those tactic that old-birds in SBF suggested), but not too often.

Then the rest, I progressively up the rpm to next mark with every oil change @ 500km.

I am now at 3rd phrase of run-in, fully-sync engine oil @ rpm 6-7k. I using Rock Oil 15W50 now....I would say, it's really good oil.

I am ok with the gathering.

Anyway yesterday, I returned to my bike shop to install my IU.

Asked the boss regarding the mineral oil brands he has and intended to change to mineral oil on my first run in.

He recommended XJR to use semi-syn oil. I told him I plan to use mineral based oil for the first

2 run in and switch to full-syn on the third.

He replied that XJR engine uses air cool (can also say oil cool, cos oil passes through the radiator and

returns back to the engine), the oil is using the engine oil, plus full-syn oil has a faster boiling point and tends to evaporate faster.

That is what I heard from him, which makes a bit of sense.

If riding a S4 is different cos it uses coolant for cooling its engine, thus using full-syn is ok for it.

The boss asked me to go read the manual as he has saw somewhere in the book that XJR uses semi-syn oil.

I tried to read the f**king japanese user manual, and saw the recommended engine oil which is semi-syn (EFERO FX).

Really puzzled ah, may stick to semi-syn 10W-40 as stated in the manual. :giddy:

Plus a few websites I saw also stated Semi-syn oil (EFERO FX) for use with XJR400R, XJR400S : XJR400 : FZR400RR : FZR400R : FZR400 : FZR250R : FZX250 blah blah blah

Could someone fill me in on this? I am reaching my first 500km soon.

I still STRONGLY recommend using good mineral-based engine oil for run-in. In fact, my run-in was pretty good (check wif shinigami, he test rided my bike). I used Elf mineral-based DXi 20W50 engine oil for the 1st three oil change at 500km intervals.

As for semi-sync, I tried using the Elf 10W40, cannot make it. Start up problematic, need longer warm-up b4 move off is smooth (10W40, my XJR needs 10mins, 20W50, it took oni 5mins and it's smooth & ready to go). I change that damn semi-sync 10W40 after abt 200+km....really cannot make it. Once, I was caught in a slow moving heavy traffic along that little india road towards Serangoon....so many traffic lights plus moving time oni @ 40km/hr....My XJR gear-shifting become so problematic, so difficult to kick into any gear, even 3rd and 4th oso got problem. Conclusion is: Elf 10W40 when cold, cannot provide sufficient lubrication, when hot, it is juz to rough, gear-shift becomes a headache.

Try mineral-based oils (u can try Elf too, if u want) and feel for urself how good it is...how good is the feel. Totally smooth...gear shift oso easier.

My rear tail-light where there is the black wording "YAMAHA" has now been replaced with a reflective one...Courtesy of MotorX for making it available.

Go down to MotorX today to grab one and replace the current non-reflective stock wording sticker...It's easily replaceable...

Check it out if u happen to see me on the road...kekeke, really nice...

Elf engine oil that you know of? Or maybe some of the other members

who knows where to get it.

Like maybe Serangoon, Kaki Bukit, Ubi, Defu or even AMK indst pk.

Thanks guys, really have no idea where to look for.

Btw, just asking,

Anyone XJR riders here installed a top box?

My bike shop freaked me out when they recommend the installation

of the rack to be welded onto the tail frame. scary leh.

Those who did the conventional bot and nut installation, is your box

stable? Does it wobble? I need some recommendation to places for

getting low price Givi top box and does good installation, preferbly got

variety of colours to choose from.

Thanks!!!

Hi Drumx,

Perhaps i can help. I have recently installed a givi top box on my XJR. I didn't go to Givi because the rack they had wasn't nice looking. Instead, i opted for a stainless steel metal rack.

I did it at Seng Kwang. Cost me i think somewhere 160 to 180 bucks. But it was satisfying. The job was well done and it's really heavy duty. No problem for heavy items. No worries that it'll give way.

Mr. Wobble is always around when you fit extra compartment on the bike. Unless it's OEM, there are bound to cause your bike to wobble. It's a matter of how extensive the wobble is. It also depends on the size of the box that you are going to install. The bigger the worst.

If you want to have a look at the rack i have installed, feel free to sms me. Can view at my office or home. No is 98778149.

Ride safe bro..

Casio,

You did a custom rack? Cool man. :shades: I will pay you a visit

someday since Upper Thomson is quite near to Serangoon.

Anyway, is Seng Kwang in AMK? I think I heard before they did

a lot of customised parts. Maybe can ask them to make Engine

guard for XJR. I am guessing my motortiam is going to ask them

to make a set for me, but my motortiam is quoting me over $200!!

Dunno lah, I am having the thought that my motortiam is trying to

rip me off. Can I find out the address of Seng Kwang from you so

as to maybe go down myself to check out the price?

By the way, where do you service your bike?

Thanks man.

I love to ride my bicycle, I love to ride my bike.
