It really depends on how u view "maintenance"...

In terms of engine oil, every change requires oni 2 litres/bottles compared to S4 3 litres/bottles. Spark plug, same 4 but price of XJR spark plug may be slightly more expensive than those used on S4. S4 has coolant which requires a change annually, while XJR does not.

XJR is air cooled??? huh?? spark plug more expensive? hwo u explain that?? its all up to individuals mah.... if u wan to use expensive spark plug then more expensive lor... u mean XJR cannot use normal plugs?

Eh Chaicka or the fellow XJRiders,

I cannot tell whether my reserve fuel switch is at the normal position or

not, Please enlighten me.

The res fuel knob has a "RESV" , a "PRI", and a "ON"

What is what huh? could anyone clarify this?

Or simple still, shld the directional arrow be pointing up?

pointing right? or pointing down?

I love to ride my bicycle, I love to ride my bike.

drumx,

you are right.. the fuel knob has the three indicators.

resv means reserve switch for the reserve tank

pri means if selected, the fuel will keep flowing. not good if the bike is stationery. too much fuel not good for engine.

on means you are consuming the fuel without touching the reserve tank yet.

the arrow should be pointing downwards. meaning it should point to "on". only when you feel sudden loss of power, then you turn it all the way up to resv. rarely anyone uses pri.

hope this helps

BTW, just like to find out from all of you.

When I am riding between 5 and 5.5 rpm, the engine

seemed to be vibrating, the speed is between 80 - 90km/h

But of the rpm is at below 5 or above 5.5 the vibration would

be gone, anyone knows about this?

rpm 5 - 5.5 > tranmission is abit buzzy, can feel while riding

rpm below 5 and above 5.5 > transmission is smooth

I dunno whether is only my bike which is facing this scary prob

Maybe my piston gone case liao.... :sian:

Hi, an anyone enlighten on engine guard for XJR400, if yes where to get and how much. If any lobang please post it here. Thanks in advance. :bounce:

There are basically 3 types in the market:

1. Original Yahama Engine Guard for XJR400R

This one is available in Japan, however, the local distributor and agent did not bring in this product due to its cost (>S$250). However, I have made an arrangement, which next month 5th or 6th October, I will be paying for the deposit and will be bringing in 1 piece for myself.

If you guys are interested to join me, let me know. Hopefully, with volume, we can bring the price down further.

2. Chiong Super4 engine guard forced to fit on XJR400R

This is the common in the market here. Alot of motordiams actually use the engine guard for Super4 and force it to be fix onto XJR400R. Shinigami is using one now. It would fit in, and thus, need to bend as well as adding extra long long nuts to make it fit in. Looks ugly, how good is the fit, not too sure but I simply dun like the idea.

3. Custom-made engine guard for XJR400R.

Seng Kwang do provide custom-made engine guard for XJR400R. I believe Casio has done it. Not sure how good it is, coz I have not see one yet. But personally, if it cost $250 to custom-made, I might as well get a genuine yamaha original one in.

Thank You.

Jeff,

You are definitely right about motoworld. they sucks big time. i have since stop visiting them. I rather spend my money elsewhere.

Btw, sorry.. can't help you with the exhaust you're looking for. Don't know them myself.

Cheers

Hi everyone,

its me again and its about the vibration again. its getting worst...

i plan to do running in till 3000km

i did another oil change at 1500km and guess what?

the vibration from the engine got worst... :sian:

I can feel the vibration on my handle bar and foot rest.

The vibration comes at around 5000rpm.

Tried to go higher, to 6000rpm but the noise and vibration is still there.

did any XJRiders met up with the same problem?

I went to the bike shop and the mech told me that I need to

trottle more than usual... then his other customers starts to

comment about going higher in the rpm when changing gear...

I usually change my gear at 5000 rpm but dunno why still like

tat... could anyone comment or help me on this?

FYI: my previous engine oil is Rallye (mineral base)

now changed to Shell Advance (Mineral based too)

I love to ride my bicycle, I love to ride my bike.

no worries u still running in

from wat i encounter also same when using mineral oil

after that changed to fully syn it got better abit

now i using semi syn the noise and vibration also big compare to s4?

then i did valve clearance at 16k mileage lidat then got better abit

but now after around 2k of usage its back to the same again :p

so wat i think is as long as u do ur regular service and carbon clearing :p

it should be fine

u can try changing the heavier balancer also which may absorb? the vibration abit only
