Hey. Im from scotland and cant find ant information here about this bike!!! I have just bought a 95' xjr400, all was ok but the other day one of the cylinders seemed to be cutting in and out, that has now stopped, but today my friend was following behind and he said there was a real stink of burning oil and alot of blue smoke. Befor I bought the bike it had basacily been sitting for a year and a half, iv had it just over a week now. What do you lot think could be wrong, maby a a stuck or broken piston ring? Also how many litres of oil should I put in, Im going to give it an oil change to see if that sorts it out. Cheers for any help.

Race works told me semi syntetic is ok to use but yamalube cost ard 10- 12 and its also fully syntetic...So far maxima ultra gives me a great smooth feel, and motul 5100 also but my engine is rougher with 7100 grade cant tell the cause of it but changing gear feels a bi**h....wont want to reccomend it any more...next time ill change to yamalube...expensive really dosent mean good but its quality dats important...Havent really keep track untill recently...as for maxima ultra the smoothness can feel as soon as u start but dont last that long till it gets rough again....

one thing is for sure there is no eo good enuf untill u have tried all...

maybe your clutch is ****up i think..maybe it needs new clutch plates..

Well, different ppl different feel rite??

Some say Mobil/Esso Gold is good, some say Purple Royal, I say Motul 5100/7100..etc etc...

Just like preferences over tyres..hard compounds, soft compounds, dual compounds...

Upz Upz Upz BUT YAMALUBE at so cheap price eh???

Different bikes have different requirements such as viscosity, adherence to parts, cleaning agent and temperature moderation properties... always best to check with bike manufacturer on this kinda things bro... even the highest grade, most expensive EO can cause more wear and tear on some bikes due to incompatibility with their unique engine specific requirements... ask a knowledgable mechanic that you trust...

Of course... those that tell you EO anything can one ah.. or.. oh depending on your budget ah... or... this one good all bikes can use... are tell-tale signs that they are also oblivious to these facts... be careful.. EO selection is more important than choice of petrol or 2T for example... EO will be in your engine and cause more damage until your next oil change or until you find out that it is that damaging (which is usually already an extremely costly discovery!)

Got this from the Forumers here...http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83711

Hi there why not join the xjr club n post ur problem there...Wellcomed by the xjr club 400/1300...

firstly cylinders cutting in and out...meaning? may be the mechanics didnt change your engine oil or didnt burn out the accumalated oil at the catalyc converter and once its heated properly blue smoke may form for the burning oil smell may be caused by long due unchanged engine oil hat will happen ao almost all bikes...

if you are free this week end members may gather and have a look on whats goin on abt your beast....somehow they will revert back to me....

there are threads also about blue smoke forming in this forum....this problem wont only happen to our beast you know....

oh for got to tell you dat it needs only 2 ltrs of EO but about 2.5 ltrs if oil filter is changed also...cheapest is yamalube at 10-12 dollars... and does the smoke keep comin all the way?do you hear a based ringing like a very deep pitch bell sound in the block?lastly how much did you get your bike for?

just so u know the shop should give u some sort of guarantee for at least a mth or 3...coz they need to as much as possible give u a top condition at point of purchase....

Wow, i can't believe that the thread is still alive.

Hahaha, can't even remember when I last left my post here.:cheeky:

Hi guys,

Just saw a PM by Bull, which he left me during Jan 2008.

It was only yesterday I think, I check the forum and saw it.

So decided to check the thread out, Boy... was I surprised by the amount of content it has. I myself not very knowledgeable with motorcycle stuff.

I been riding my XJR since 2003, first owner till now. Didn't explore much for any modifications to the bike. I think the only "extra" accessories that I have is the engine guard which I got from Motoworld years back and a GIVI box.

Thanks to one of our past XJR rider, shucks I forgotten his nick. He bought the original engine guard from Yamaha Japan, (Cost about $200+) and Motoworld made a cheap copy of it and sell it $70. That was how much I paid for it. Too bad the last time I checked with him, he sold off his XJR after an accident. That was a couple of years back I think...:dozed:

I guess most of the riders here during my time have upgraded or switch to 4wheels. Heehee...

As for me, I am 27 this year, Chinese male. The XJR was my first bike Silver FX with blue stripes and a Silver GIVI box (I wore either a Shoei or Arai Silver fullface helmet) , basically just using it as a mode of transportation to work and sometimes to Senai, Msia. That is the furthest I have been to. Sorry I won't be able to contribute much to the thread or to the follow riders.

If you wanna talk about "push-start" a XJR, I can give you tips on that. Kenna a few times myself, most of the time at Tuas Customs! Hahaha... :cheeky:

Good day gentlemen and ladies (if there are any around?)

I love to ride my bicycle, I love to ride my bike.

EO=2liters

Grades=Motul 5100, Motul 7100, Mobil & Esso

Some like it semi synthetic, like me, fully synthetic

The bike uses EO for lubrication unlike S4 who uses water coolant, ours is OIL Cooled & AIR COOLed.

Always get original OIL FILTER.

There is K&N air filter at S$75.

When are u getting one?? the one at Joo Chiat isit???

there IS a new one with NEW design at Hong Leong....But heard its expensive at about 15k & unless u gg to ride the bike for a long time, its not feasible to get a new one as YAMAHA bikes devalued quickly to Hondas(got this quatation at ASPoon Road Show @ PictureHouse weeks ago)

try checking out these shops for second hand XJR

SANFU at Kaki Bukit, near a Prison School

LOOIs at Kaki Bukit, UBI just off MOTOWORLD

AND

As u have seen it at Joo Chiat DIY (under Chong Aik)....

Good luck, bro...
