Everton in a hurry

 

Everton hope to finalise a new deal in the next 10 days to tie young midfielder Jack Rodwell to Goodison Park for five years and stave off interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.

 

Negotiations are complete and Rodwell expects to sign his first long-term senior contract before his 18th birthday next month, capping a remarkable rise which saw the former England under-16 captain score his first senior goal in Sunday's 3-1 FA Cup win over Aston Villa.

 

Securing the long-term future of one of the country's brightest young stars is a major coup for Everton, especially with both Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson keenly tracking his progress.

 

Sources at Goodison Park insist no formal bids were lodged but acknowledge Everton knew the game's giants would pounce if they stalled. Rory Smith, The Daily Telegraph :angel:
