Nope, i saw the incident from the top of the container after my first heat on scooter challenge. It happened when Feroz lost control of his bike when his visor flew off from his helmet, the moment when he checked his rear, he was too near the first Turn and did a late braking which result him flying off from the bike and hitting the tire, next thing that hit him was the bike and he was stuck underneath for a while. There's still alot of improvement to be made at Tuas circuit due to the allowance for crashes (in my own opinion). He is pronounced dead last night, and the funeral was held today at CCK and burial in the evening. Hope that he rest in peace...

Having had a quick read in here, I would like to say hi to all lads and ladies.

I was wondering if I could meet up with any of you lads who are familiar with the newest APRILIA RS125 and have a quick chat about the bike. I will be racing one of these in the 125GP coming up in April and would like some heads up. I have been running big bikes all this time in races and my experiences with a 2 stroker is limited as the only bike I ran was an NSR250SP many many eons ago.

Do call me or sms me at 91462309 if you would like to be of kind assistance. The coffee and cake is on me.

A fork upgrade, carbon tech reeds and matching exhuast would be good.. plus a good mech for the tuning ... The rest of the stuff i believe is out of bounds in terms of mods... lighten the bike to ard 110kg from 140kg ..remove all unneccessary stuff , run premix. Use brembo race pads front/rear ard 90 per set , self import from oversea.. You will need to special order carb stuff from Ideal motor to full convert into full race jetting

I can't guarantee that I'm the best person to speak to, but having rode the Yamaha R1 and R6 on track before, I can point out some obvious differences between big bikes and the 125 on track.

Power

On a litre-bike, a mere flick of the wrist might give you some wheelspin on the rear, or lift your front wheel. On the 125, the power delivery is slow, barely noticeable. It's got a very narrow powerband, depending on how your bike is tuned, probably between 9,000-12,000rpm. It is imperative you keep the needle on your tachometer within that range so that you have access to the full power on tap.

Blipping the Throttle

I'm sure you know how to do this proficiently to keep the revs up when downshifting. The 125 does not have a slipper clutch, unlike the litre-bikes, so make sure you familiarise yourself with the gear ratio of the 125 to know how many gears to downshift in a turn. It's not a good idea to use the engine brake because it is almost non-existent, and may cause the engine to seize if your idle and progression is not rich enough.

Handling

The 125 is more maneuverable and easy to flick over through the chicane. However, you need to be smooth and gentle with it because the bike is very light. I've ever pushed the front over too forcefully and caused the front tire to slip, inducing a tankslapper. Like with litre-bikes, smoothness is key. The 125 requires less force to switch directions, but that is my opinion as I am 1.70m and 55kg (I have to really lean in and duel with the R1 to stick to the line and it scares me sh1tless). Tankslappers ride themselves out fairly quickly on the 125.

Due to its maneuverability, the 125 is a little more forgiving when you take a bad line. Litre-bikes demand full commitment once you enter the turn, but the 125 gives a bit of leeway as it allows you to make changes on the fly, even when in the middle of a turn.

Braking

Obviously, the 125 wont be hitting speeds that litre-bikes do, so you can start braking later and deeper into the turn on its wonderful radial brake and 320mm front rotor. With good pads, like those xxes123 recommends, you'd be surprised how well a single rotor can work.

As your initial speed is fairly low to start with, you wont have to scrub off too much speed, unlike on a litre-bike where you see and feel a huge drop in velocity.

Overall, you can brake deeper into a turn, carry a higher entry speed into the turn, and make changes to your line while in the turn.

The only con is acceleration out of corners, it feels like the bike's not moving. But that just takes some getting used to.

The newest RS125 feels a little tall, so you might have to hunker down and dig in your heels in turns, and keep your weight a little forward if you're of a small build like me.

If we're unable to arrange a meet, I'd like to wish you the best of luck for your race. Cheers!

I can't comment on the technical aspect as i am not proficient. However, the power of my stock RS125 is rubbish. Derestricting it has made a vast difference (presumably it has already been done), but i agree with Edwin, tuning is essential. Please let me know if you know of anywhere that has a good tuner.

New to track riding but few observations:

- I am 180 cm and 77kg (without beer) and 79kg (with beer). Contrary to Lacri, the bike is a bit small for me. As such, i typically have to sit a bit further up back and be closer to the pillion seat. If my riding position is too front, i find that i have less confidence in corners and i tend to grip too tightly when i am too front (presumably due to body weight distribution?) - Guys, any thoughts?

- I do get cramps on my knees due to the small cockpit

- Half clutching. In PG, there are some corners (particularly a certain hilly corner with a patch of mud looking thing immediately after the apex) where i am experimenting with half clutching to keep the revs high. Again, cant give much advice as i am still experimenting, but something to think about.

- Tire pressure, i am running as low as 23 /25 PSI. Still experimenting, but the recommended of 26 / 29 is definitely too much and causes unnecessary tire wear

- Havent ridden many other motorbikes (only vespas), but i think the RS125 is pretty forgiving. I use to play go-karts and i could follow the proper lines in PG without going overboard.

- Have not experimented with suspension etc yet. But from my experience with mountain bikes, i believe dialing in the right pressure / load etc makes a huge difference in terms of cornerning confidence. That will be my next area for development.

Are you participating in the event organized by Aprilia Msia? I may consider doing it next year when i start to familiarize myself with motorbiking. I like the fact that they will maintain and mod the bike for you!

Am still a Newbie and am learning heaps from the likes of Macan, Lacri and Macarena so do take my opinion with a pinch of salt

small bike. no need to use much body weight. unless ur weight like me. i'm freaking light.

oh ya. abt tire pressure. for many many many many many many years. racing co. using nitrogen to reduce the tire wear on track. not juz normal air.

recently. in Singapore they introduce nitrogen on tires.

juz my $1 worth... :D

back to "think and get stressed" lesson. bye~~~~~~!

Can we just let the case rest till Putra recovers, pls. I believe Khai has spoken to all involved, fitri inclusive. By looking at your replies, I suppose Khai havent spoken to you.

I believe you'll be receiving a call from Khai for a chat on this matter. Else, pls call him and have a chat. I do not wanna hear anymore blaming, accusation or what not about this case anymore.

Like I said before, the focus here should be the lesson learnt from the mistakes made, as currently it's words against words.

I rest my case here. Thank you.

im not blaming but just telling what i saw happened..yea i've not spoken to khai as the other day i had to send my gf back home when we were all at the hospital..any day you guys are visiting him again?
