Premix is safer because the rate at which 2T is fed into your engine is consistent to the amount of petrol used for the combustion.

It all boils down to personal preference. Do you prefer a high risk of seizure or a low risk of seizure? That's all.

I personally do not favour additional mechanical complications. If you have 4 additional moving parts with the 2T pump, that's 4 extra points of possible failure. Premixing 2T with petrol cuts this risk out of the equation.

Also, the 2T pump is a very crude device to introduce lubricant into the mixture. The amount of 2T fed into the engine is a really rough approximation at best. There are no markings on the rocker valve as the volume and rate of 2T is also determined by the engine RPM as well as the position of the rocker valve relative to the throttle position.

There is no specification table in any manuals for the RS125 (User's Manual, Workshop Manual, Servicing Manual, even the most comprehensive and recognised Hane's Manual). Hmmm, wonder why? Because it is the only part of the bike which is an unknown, even to the engineers.

How do you meter the exact amount of 2T required? Estimation isn't exactly science, you know.

The word seizure also means:

1. to take hold of suddenly or forcibly; grasp

2. to capture; take into custody.

3. to bind or fasten together

During braking, I never have the clutch engaged. I always disengage the clutch completely when braking. It removes your dependency on engine braking, thus also reducing your chances of seizure.

When downshifting, I blip the throttle to keep the revs up. Practice this so it becomes second nature and you do it subconsciously, like disengaging during braking.

Oi slacker. U get my sms yesterday?

Btw guys, my bike has been vibrating alot while @ 6k rpm +/-.. Any ideas why?

Might be broken balancers, or wheel bearings.

Loose conrod will cause a whirring sound when revving.

.....

If the temperature is maintained (due to several things such as coolant, spark plug grade (8 - hot, 9 - alright, 10 - cool), ambient temperature, Octane level of fuel) - All factors preventing pre-ignition (also known as 'Knocking' for Forced Induction Car lovers, and THEIR biggest fear) , which can cause the piston seizeCEASE argh.

Temperature is regulated by the coolant and more importantly, the A/F mixture. Having too little petrol (lean), cylinder and piston heat up, causing seizure. Having too much petrol (rich), excess carbon build up causing fouling of spark plug, and caking of carbon deposits on valve.

For the millionth time, more 2T means more LEAN, not rich. Especially for bikes with injector 2T (2T pump), increasing 2T input by premixing on top of using the 2T pump introduces too much 2T into the mix, and this 2T takes the place of petrol, which causes leanness (excess air relative to the amt of fuel).

As heroically proven by Subzero on track when he added 2T into his tank while still using his 2T pump, his spark plug melted and it was WHITE. Clearly, the mixture was too lean. (white=lean; light brown=perfect; black=rich)

I have had to ride my bike without coolant (blown head gasket), so I pulled over by the road, upped the idle and main jets, and rode home on the PIE from Tuas (I live near Potong Pasir). The temperature remained below 97deg C at the highest point. I'm not recommending you convert your bikes to being aircooled, I'm just concurring with Edwin that petrol is a coolant.

Luster, vipergod2000, tknge, thanks for contributing. All good reads!

Lawrence,

Why you same message appeared twice in different date leh( 16 & 18 Mar).....system error?

System error? I hope not. hahaha...

They can't be bothered to read up anything on their own, and when someone does extract information for them from reliable sources, they start their own little disinformation campaign by quoting rubbish from uneducated, untrained local mechanics.

Just getting tired of seeing the same questions asked and then the same unfounded nonsense answers thrown right back, perpetuating the cycle of ignorance and circulating the same misconceptions over and over.

Yes, Eddy, please go easy on Thur, Fri, Sat and especially Sat night. No badminton please (*pfft! sprain ankle playing badminton; coming from the spawn of badminton geniuses) *disdainful scoff*

Come on mayyyyteeee... accidents do happen. Plus I am still nursing that injury, so will definitely steer clear of badminton for a few more weeks before getting back. Am actually still giong to take it slow on Sunday too (per my usual!)

Ok - see you at Gelang Patah Esso. Can work out logistics then. But best to call each other when we leave the house so we don't end up waiting too long for one another.

Other than going slow for the first few laps, do we need to wash (yes- talking about soap and water) the new tires to remove the wax they use to preserve them? Or just riding easy for the first few laps is sufficient?

Hello. Anyone has the rear number plate holder for the 06? As in, the entire piece including the stock signal lights. Not those 'engineered' ones like Luster's.

How bout we meet up to wash our tires over a beer? haha...

Does your place have a nice washing area? I'll bring some booze, you get the dishwashing liquid ready.

I need to go slow too. Got conned by JR, they gave me old tires (manufactured 2006) instead of the newest ones (2008-2009). Will head to JR later today to try and get a swap. If they pull the caveat emptor card, I will have no choice but to go PG with my new old tires.

But usually going slow for 3-4 laps will scrub the wax off.

Nah, please allow me to clarify - JR is not a bad company. I said I got 'conned' because I was assured they had 2008 tires, but the guy the workshop sent to pick them up did not verify this at the warehouse.

So my bike got fitted with the 2006 tires and I only just inspected and found out. :(

It's my fault for not inspecting the tires before picking up my bike.

*shrugs* Oh well, no problem. Tires, if properly stored can be kept in cold storage for about 4-5 years. It's only when fitted and ridden on, that they will harden very quickly due to the heat cycles.

Also, all this talk about jets and seizures made me reassess my risk appetite for running ultra-lean jets (yeah, funny huh, I made myself nervous about seizures) and I have richened my jets. My fuel consumption is now a miserable 24-30km/L depending on how heavy I am on my throttle. Ugh!

I have also found that increasing the spark plug heat rating (higher value, hence its cooler) makes my plug foul faster. I have a theory that the lower temperatures inside the engine does not burn off the carbon deposits as well, hence faster fouling. Any other ideas, anyone?

After 11 days of no activity, my bike fired up on the first crank (as it usually does), but stalled after 5 minutes of idling.

Sigh... Back to the tuning table :dozed:

Sounds good! Might be doing a few easy rounds on my road bike to see how the ankle is holding up. Anytime on Sat arvo is ok with me. (as long as we dont end up using beer as 2T oil).... The wash area at my place is pretty good, so no worries.

Do the tires have different grooves etc (comparing the 2006 and 2008)? It could be a myth, but with "proper" storage, i was told that tires have a shelf life of up to 3 years. But if storage was less than adequate, the compound may deteoriate.

P.S. I do have heaps of booze at home, so no need to BYO.

When will you be going for your 'easy rounds'? I'd like to tag along. My road tires are a little flat. Need to ride them to keep them supple.

M3 grooves from 2006-2009 remain the same. Compound too. The tires also come with a guarantee that they can be kept for up to 60 months (5 years), in proper storage. But in poor storage conditions, ie. too warm, too humid, too dry, too cold- and the rubber deteriorates. My concern is how the tires were stored in JR warehouse for the last 3 years, but it feels soft and sticky, and my 10-cent coin sticks to it after a short warm-up ride so I think they should hold. o_O

I also have heaps of booze, but I think I will sponge off you this time round cos I dont wanna get pulled, and have 3 bottles of liquor turned up during a routine road block and search. hahaha...
