Hey guys,

Ran into our dear mike today at Ntrust... I wanted to collect my speedo cable which i left there ages ago.. then this nice looking studious guy introed himself to me when i was standing near my bike when i was planning to leave..

Turns out, it's mike1024!! Haha, we had a nice chat of our bikes.. he told me the story of his piston jam.. poor guy! Anyway, i have a feeling mike's going to be a valuable member of our little club.. Another Chris in the making.. :cheeky:

Mike, hope i din go to fast when i pillioned you to the main road ah? Did you feel the power of valve opening at gear 1? :cheeky:

There are many possibilities....

1)2T not enough, did you check your 2T level? or 2T pump is on the lean side

2)Perhaps the bike was not run in properly and you whack too much?

3)Or perhaps you never let it rest after 100km? IMO, i think 2stroke bike cant travel long without rest. Ralf went up to sepang recently with some rs125 and mitos and there wasnt any problem.

just topped up 2T with esso 2t Gold at pagoh, which was within 50km of breakdown location. yeah, it could be a 2T pump problem - i remember that the 2t smoke was as light as a smoky 4T engine exhaust (or maybe not, my memory is not that good).

how long can a bike run with the 2T pump hose disconnected?

what's the longest stretch anyone has run at high speeds?

trying to dissect the problem to find a solution now.

I've read a theory that 2stroke bikes can't run continually at the same rpm for extended periods of time. This is due to the recirculation of exhaust gasses in the combustion chamber. Running at the same rpm will lead to hotspots developing, and the temperatures will continue to rise until the piston jams. This theory could explain why piston seizures can happen at relatively low rpms as well.

How true this is, i don't know. But i've always made it a point vary my rpms and throttle positions on long rides. Heck, we (3 aprilias and 2 mitos) made it to sepang and back without anything going wrong. We did stop at every petrol station to take a break and top up petrol though.

It might be due to this, or maybe your 2t pump went wonky.

sounds like a plausible theory, but then there is a liquid cooling system, which is supposed to help even out the temperature differences.

i think varying rpms during rides could actually have an incidental benefit of relaxing the rider, getting the mind off long periods of high concentration.

do you guys trust mah to be able to diagnose such a problem (wonky pump)?

Hmm..that might explain why when I travel on PIE/ECP, though i remain at 90km/h, my temp sometimes can climb from 76 to 78 towards when i exit the highway.

no, i think that this is simply because when you exit the e'way, your speed through the air drops, and the rate of cooling on the radiator drops. thus, temp rises. notice if you pick up speed immediately after that, the temp drops quite quickly.

speaking of which, what is a dangerous temp? when i was exiting Pagoh, the temp hit low 80s, but quickly cooled down to 74 when i got up to my cruising speed.

Turning my bike into a rocket, hahah :cheeky: No lah, electrical problems - bike keeps cutting out whenever I'm in anything other than neutral gear. Tried everything I can imagine, and am sick of troubleshooting endlessly, so am letting the excellent folks at NTrust sort it out for me :thumb: As for my rearsets - er, guess you only saw my left side. My right side is bent at silly angle.

Chris, did you try posting your problem on the AF1 forums? The guys there seem pretty experienced.. That Craig fella might be able to help also.. No point keep on trial and error on your bike trying to figure out what is wrong.. :cheeky:

I'm sure you're anxious to get onto the track again... :thumb:

So far, what have you tried to do for the bike??

Guys,

Anyone know the reason why during run in after overhaul, it is recommended to use semi syn 2T rather than fully syn 2T?

Supposedly, it's to allow enough friction for the piston rings to properly seat against the cylinder wall to maximise compression and lengthen piston/block life. It's controversial though, like too many things.

Not fully syn does not do this, but semi syn does? I dun get the theory behind it..
