can anione enlighten mi wat are the plus pt of aprilia bikes ah? Coz all i heard of are negative ones like high maintainence, ex spare parts and etc... Thanks

what can you compare? here are some truths, some rumours:

top speed: RS loses to SP/TZM/KRR

acceleration: RS (may probably) lose to SP/TZM/KRR

cost: RS definitely loses to SP/TZM/KRR

maintenance: RS maintenance interval more frequent than SP/TZM/KRR

maintenance: RS have more possible points of failure than SP/TZM/KRR

cost of parts: RS parts cost more than SP/TZM/KRR

chance of catastrophic failure (e.g. seizure): RS will probably explode more easily than SP/TZM/KRR when run at equal conditions

weight: RS is slightly heavier than SP/TZM/KRR

old bikes: it is harder to find a good used RS than a good used SP/TZM/KRR

if you ignore factors like handling, aesthetics, sound, smell, anybody who is cooly rational should not get the ah-pee-lah.

Yet, there are a good number of people here who own the bike, and many many more who lust over the bike from a distance, not willing to 'get their feet wet' with the experience of this bike.

So you decide: either we are a bunch of crazies who have too much money and don't know where to spend it. OR there is something quite indescribable, unmeasurable, intangible, beyond words, about this bike.

Remember, someone said before: What can be counted, usually does not count. What counts, cannot be counted.

erm 125 and 150cc not tt big diff

and dun judge bike by the CC=cylinder capacity

i wld prefer judge by the hp=horse power

and u get the rs125 not just wack top speed

u no need to have the best top speed bike in 2b and FYI how fast can 1 2b bike go???

maybe ur top speed win or lose abit to those 150cc thailand bike

when when come to taking the corner u think those thai bike can compare with rs

ahahahah

??

there are pro n cons...

another thing is that im wrking and got no pc to use how i noe u all got any outing or not ??? by the time i reach home see the post its too late liao. if u understand then dun say like i dun wan meet u all up, i oso wan to noe more fren i oso wan to have more fellows that ride the same bike and share problems and advise.

anyway this is how i feel oso after reading ur post and now i noe how u feel oso, so hope this is the end of it i dun wan to lost another fren.

Vincent,

I can see that this post was definitely written in a burst of emotions.. something that i can understand since it happens to me before.. That was why my previous post regarding this matter, i actually spent time thinking about it before running my mouth off as usual...

Firstly, I think you missed my point.. Regarding your claims of the timings of outings and PC usage etc.. We dun always meet at 8-9pm.. we often meet later also.. You can always SMS and ask whether want to meet up? I believe our dear Samuel SMSes everybody when he want to jio outing.. And usually outings are not posted last minute(unless it's me!) If you dont get any SMS, it's most prob coz you almost always dont come for outings.. And i like said before, it's ok.. I know how your work schedule is, and it's not easy...

And are you telling me that if anyone got problem with their bike, you always post and say if you know or you dunno is it? I'm sure if you dont know how to solve 'a person's problem or help them out in their request, you wouldnt bother right? Nobody here wants to give the wrong advice and screw up beacsue of that.. Your most recent post replying to edwin's request jus makes it seem like you're trying to show that you practise what you preach.. when in fact, you dont..

Lastly, if there is a problem that you dont know how to settle, pls do CALL someone who might know.. This is my reponse to what i gathered you were trying to say in your post..

hey a very big thanks to the guys yesterdae! kelvin, chinguan, viknesh, edwin for burning ur sat nite trying to help me solve the prob... really appreciate it =p damn.. rite now my whole body is aching n im still feeling so shagged

Andrew,

No problem la.. Honestly, i did nothing but buy kopi for you guys(thanx for treating us!)

Anyway, after learning what your problem really was made me seriously think about trusting mechs.. I have fallen victim to this before, that is why i am extra careful nowadays on where i bring my bike.. Well, i guess i'm adding 1 more motortiam to my list of DUN BRING YOUR BIKE THERE.

Hope all your problems will end now bro.. I going for a top job next year.. Maybe about Feb.. Anyway planning for a top job can do with me, so can do run in together...

Everyone's gotta take a step back and chill for a bit. Sometimes its hard to be inspired by people who lack enthusiasm. I still meet up regularly with Aprilia owners, but only a select group.

I heard Benjamin once went to someone's Northern home to conduct a valve cleaning class (and he lives near Holland Village), but said Aprilia owner did not have

1) solvents

2) scrubs, rags

Hmm.. Well, in case anyone is wondering, the Northern home is mine.. Long, long time ago before i cleared my license(after i got my bike), I remember Ben coming over to teach how to wash valve to Andrew, Hanz and I.. He made no mention of having the various things ready if i remember correctly.. After all, i was a noob then.. And how can i not have rags if my hse was jus so near by.. But i do remember Hanz and I going to buy the petrol to wash the valve.. Honestly i learnt nothing that day except how to panic as i watched Ben frantically call you, chin guan, Norman, William and God know who just because his valve was jammed... He was so worried he was talking of towing his bike to RW.. Luckily, my brother dropped by and knocked out bothe Ben's and Andrew's valves.. There was no so called 'class' happening.. The person who did teach me to wash valve was Hanz, for whom i am thankful for and i'm doing my part to share watever knowledge i have with the rest of the new guys.. Those whom i've helped selflessly, you should know who you are.. I try to learn from the old guys, and try to pass it on to the rest..

I agree with the fact that sometime ppl who lack the enthusiasm for outings are sometimes demoralizing.. But SMSing ppl about so called 'top secret meetups' which i think is pure BS doesnt help matters that much either... But it's best as what you mentioned to hang with the ppl whom you like, and ditch those whom you dont like.. I try my best to mix around, andi've made many great friends here. I try not to hang exclusively with jus 1 crowd and i'm open to meeting old/new Aprilia riders.. Sometimes trying to be exclusive and selective does tend to make ppl think that the certain clique is trying to pose as an elite group of sorts and as though they cant be bothered by the rest whom they consider to be beneath them... I'm a fun loving guy with uncontrollable mouth, but i'm loyal as hell to my friends, and i'm counting my blessings that i know ppl like Chin guan, Edwin who watch out for me and advise me when i need their help.. And not mentioning the rest of the dudes like Samuel, Hanz, Isa, Jieliang.. There's jus too many to mention...

Anyway, lawrence, what's happened to A.R.C? It seems that we need a revival of sorts.. and since you're freed from your motorbike workshop commitments, maybe you can bring us all together... Let's have a club meeting for once.. A top secret club meeting if you want.. Just get everyone down! :thumb:

Go visit NGK website, Australia, UK, or Germany.

I am not a mechanic, I might be wrong. So, please check with others!

quite informative site. this chart should help people who wonder about plug specification numbers:

http://ngk.com/images/NGKsparkplugNum.gif

Posted

some things to consider, ripped off from the NGK site, don't think it has been reproduced on this site yet, or if it has, it has been a long time:

The term spark plug heat range refers to the speed with which the plug can transfer heat from the combustion chamber to the engine head. Whether the plug is to be installed in a boat, lawnmower or racecar, it has been found the optimum combustion chamber temperature for gasoline engines is between 500°C–850°C. When it is within that range it is cool enough to avoid pre-ignition and plug tip overheating (which can cause engine damage), while still hot enough to burn off combustion deposits which cause fouling.

The spark plug can help maintain the optimum combustion chamber temperature. The primary method used to do this is by altering the internal length of the core nose, in addition, the alloy compositions in the electrodes can be changed. This means you may not be able to visually tell a difference between heat ranges. When a spark plug is referred to as a “cold plug”, it is one that transfers heat rapidly from the firing tip into the engine head, which keeps the firing tip cooler. A “hot plug” has a much slower rate of heat transfer, which keeps the firing tip hotter.

An unaltered engine will run within the optimum operating range straight from the manufacturer, but if you make modifications such as a turbo, supercharger, increase compression, timing changes, use of alternate racing fuels, or sustained use of nitrous oxide, these can alter the plug tip temperature and may necessitate a colder plug. A rule of thumb is, one heat range colder per modification or one heat range colder for every 75–100hp you increase. In identical spark plug types, the difference from one full heat range to the next is the ability to remove 70°C to 100°C from the combustion chamber.

The heat range numbers used by spark plug manufacturers are not universal, by that we mean, a 10 heat range in Champion is not the same as a 10 heat range in NGK nor the same in Autolite. Some manufacturers numbering systems are opposite the other, for domestic manufacturers (Champion, Autolite, Splitfire), the higher the number, the hotter the plug. For Japanese manufacturers (NGK, Denso), the higher the number, the colder the plug.

Do not make spark plug changes at the same time as another engine modification such as injection, carburetion or timing changes as in the event of poor results, it can lead to misleading and inaccurate conclusions (an exception would be when the alternate plugs came as part of a single precalibrated upgrade kit). When making spark plug heat range changes, it is better to err on the side of too cold a plug. The worst thing that can happen from too cold a plug is a fouled spark plug, too hot a spark plug can cause severe engine damage
