140 main now. needle clip in top position. what you mean by good luck?

she's gonna blow? :giddy:

145 engine bogs at 3/4 throttle, heck, even 142 also bogs.

needle clip 1 position down will have flat spot at 5.5k... bogging at half throttle.

plug comes out with slight dry black colour - too rich what. dun scare me lar you :p

think i will go with richer 2t pump setting, or add 2t to tank.

3/4 is 3/4, full throttle is full throttle. U only use full throttle to test main jet

so that bogging that you have there might be a mistaken case of clip setting too rich, yet main jet can still be too small

another common misconception is taking out the plug to see a nice brown color and concluding that the mixture is safe. THAT IS WRONG. A spark plug can only go from white to black, and not backwards. And that blackness u are seeing, most likely only reflects the low-mid range mixture. That's because most of us are riding with 1/3 throttle most of the time.

Say for examlpe, ur idle mixture is perfectly nice, and ur clip position seems to be okay too. But your main jet is super low, and u're having problems reaching higher revs. Then you take out the spark plug and see that it's a nice tan.

Therefore, you cannot conclude anything by simply looking at the plug at any time.

The only way you can conclude anything is to do PLUG CHOPS with NEW spark plugs.

Hope this opinion helps you in your jetting decisions.

sounds very reasonable. think i'll go get some cheap plugs to play...

but won't the carbon deposits be burned off at proper operating temperatures?

somehow i get the feeling that my wide open throttle is on the verge of being lean cos i get the rpms suddenly jumping 800+ rpm at around 9.5-10k rpm (hard to look carefully cos you know what kinds of speed that rpm range is, heh heh, and i dun want to be another statistic or acquire a nickname :p ).

So, if i pull the throttle wide open suddenly from about 3/4, and the engine bogs, does that mean it is rich? or is it more reliable to say that if i drag slowly all the way to WOT, and at WOT the rpms climb too quickly, then the mixture is lean?

i also have a piston sieze recently. was wacking 5th gear around 9 to 10 rpm around 150km/h as the road was coming to an end i close mi throttle quite a lot and suddenly a thud sound. using 145 main jet on 34mm carb 2 and a 1/2 turns i believe it got nothing to do with mi 2t as mi tip of mi endcan has a drip of 2t. izzit because of the idle jet? too small cause i believe i clsoe to aroudn 1/3. izzit due to closing of throttle too fast? now changing piston and block haiz. [/b]

jin hanz.. it's really like wat kelvin said... the sudden closin of the throttle stops all the 2t and petrol feeding... and ya're on engine brake.. which means that ya bike is still decelerating from high RPM..

high RPM = idling petrol & idling 2t, i guess ya cud have guessed the result..

the safe method of closin the throttle is to ease it slow, jus like what kelvin had said.. but i usually practice the method clutchin in with a little of blipping on the throttle..

i think i'll go fix on a 142 anyway. i also realized something was amiss at WOT with a 140. think it would help the midrange too, worried that raising a needle clip position would lean it out too much.

Hey my piston jammed as well.

Was at about 120 kmph on expressway first lane.

Think I closed the throttle too fast, but i clutched in fully liao so got a lot of speed for me to slowly filter to the left lane.

Have to change piston also, but luckily block not scratched.

How do I prevent such incident from occuring again ah? I think fibre got provide a lot of advice, but I dont understand at all. Can ask Ah Seng or any mechanic to do something and just be done with this prob?:weep:

COMPLAINT to SHELL

Dear Sir,

having been an ardent supporter of Shell's V-Power a long time since despite its rising prices, I took my new Aprilia motocycle to the Shell Service Station at Alexandra (the one with Caltex beside) and together with my wife whom was driving an SUV seperately, filled up at the said station.

My wife having filled up just 2 nights before proceeded to top up to a full tank at about $24 dollars whilst mine was almost empty and I filled up about $20.

All this while, the station attendant cleaned my wife's windscreen, rear screen and even polished the SUV's tyre wall.

As the attendant glanced at me, I asked him if I, whom pumped V-Power as well could have my motocycle's tyre shined he shook his head and dismissed me. I queried again as to why that was the case since cars filling up the same amount was entitled to these special services. He simply replied that "motorcycles shine tyres also no use". Not the exact words but to that effect. If only he knew that my tyres cost easily more than the general car's tyres!

He proceeded to wave me to move off and beckoned at a LEXUS SUV waiting to pump!

Now this pissed me off. We all pay good money at $1.890 per litre of V-Power. It's not as if the LEXUS is paying say $2.890 per litre! I would have understood his actions.

For far too long, motorcyclists have been treated with disdain by these service station staff whom think that motorcyclists are people on a budget. With car prices lowering, the gap is closing. It irks me to see that a simple request for a 2 tyre shine was refused for absurd reasons and was treated as if my motorcycle was not welcomed at the station.

All this while the station was almost empty. The other pumps were vacant.

I have always enjoyed Shell's black magic range of tyre shine products and have one bottle in my wife's car and a small vial on my bike for impromptu detailing. Its not about the nit picking or being able to afford to purchase the tyre shine but if V-power came with some special perks, I would have appreciated it if motorcyclists or even bicyclists for that matter are awarded the same priviliges. V-power is v-power is v-power. It makes no difference if its a lorry, truck, car or bike. Everyone is paying the same price.

Please assist in making small privilleges like these available to fellow motorcyclists whom appreciate Shell's V-power and are willing to pay for it despite the high price. Should motorcyclists be given the same preferential treatment as the cars whom fill up with v-power, it would make us motorcyclists a much happier supporter of your products.

For me, should I come to see such pathetic service again from your service station, would gladly take my money elsewhere. Hell, Shell's V-Power is good but not that good until I have to put up with treatment that almost makes us seem as if we are paying any less than car owners. Again, its $1.890 across the board so what's the attendant's problem?!

BTW, I was at pump 3.

chirst: my 2T setting got nothing to do wit the piston seize, the outer ring of my plug was dry black wit carbon deposite....my 2T setting is quite at the corrct amt ( but a bit lean)

the reason is my fuel /air ratio too lean.... the centre of the plug is whitish.... i only whack till 10k rpm or so only and jammed when i was already braking and doing engine braking at 3.5-5k rpm..

my current main jet is 158 and idle jet 45 air screw at 1.5 turn out .... mus up till 160/162/165 mainjet and 46/48/50....

any hardcore tuning fans wan order online for unique DELL ORTHO parts together to spilt shipping cost.... i planning to order dell ortho aprilia silder size 45 (stock 34mm carb using size 40, needle taper K55-65 (stock using K57)... these parts are not availible in singapore...

Posted

I have the best settings for now....lol.... 28mm carb with 120 main n I save so much on petrol but my 2t... whythe red light comes out again so fast.... anyway I top 180 at this moment. I normally clutch in if I want to stop/slow down at high rev n kick down the gears. This might help but I damn scared my piston seize... 5 bikes this mth for piston seizure....

Who going JB tonight?? I on reserve liao.... call me at 90214262... I really need to pump petrol n pump my cigurattes.

Wait till I achieve my objective.... I will be back with a more powerful engine and a more sexy bike......

hi guys... wads the defination of blogging sounds? my planet had no rpm meter... but when i rev to ard mid high, there's a particular sound coming out & the rpm stuck there, refusing to go up anymore. i'm using 155 on my tm32. aren't sure abt the air mixture screw turns out & the clip position. used to have 190+ but had since gone down to 155 liao, with no diff in the max rpm in every gear. juz the acceleration's alot better & fc came down a little(from 13+km to 15km per liter)now top speed stuck at 135km/h on my digital speedo. :help: :help:

i've moved over the recent spate of posts concerning the engine seizures to the ARC forum.

Please follow this link for a more technical discussion concerning carburettion tuning, which i think a lot of us are/ should be more concerned with.

Yes the track on Friday still on. I will post the lastest update tomorrow. Regarding the defensive riding course actually think of taking too but at BBDC instead. It was so much cheaper than SSDC.
