Ah Seng told me so far he see the bike as still ridable but need to rebuilt the front.. I am sorta prepared for the worst if he tells me that the frame is compromised.. I would be very careful about the opinions of such 'experts'. Unless he knows metallurgy (i do not, btw), and has examined the damage with instruments other than calibrated eyeballs, i would take his judgment with a pinch of salt.

 

No doubt he is obviously experienced, and the frame might be over-engineered, but with these things you can never know. It is also highly likely that there will be some residual alignment error, which you probably can not get rid of.

 

I have absolutely no idea who this mech is, so i should not be casting doubt on his character, but don't you agree that he has a vested interest in selling you the service, rather than you going to look for another bike.

 

I also do not know what speed is 'low' in your case, but again, i would be careful to the point of paranoia here. In my opinion, if the head tube needs straightening, i'd bin it - you really do not want head tube separation at speed. and by the way, do you know the actual design head angle, and allowable tolerance?

 

It's easy for me to say all this cos it's not my money; and i also dunno what i am trying to achieve with these posts. I think you are mature enough to realize that this is only my opinion, and would take what you want from this.

Take it easy for the first few laps on the track guys.

 

A Super4 highsided at Turn 3 on Wednesday 'cos he started to push it on the 2nd lap. He entered the sharp left turn ahead of me (alongside my friend), and next thing I knew when I entered the turn the rider was tumbling, the bike was sliding on it's RIGHT side (confirm highside!), and bits and pieces were all over the place. My friend had to run off into the gravel to avoid running over bike and rider.

 

Warm up your tyres first. Get into the mood and rhythm, and progressively build up your speed and confidence. Don't let excitement or ego cloud your judgment. It could be very expensive and painful. The poor rider, whom I mentioned, broke his forearm. And his bike looks pretty expensive to repair.

 

Take it easy out there. Burn rubber.... not your plastics!
