Some interesting upgrade to the brake system

"Like any self-respecting supersport motorcycle, the RS 125 has to have the best when it comes to components. The braking system is brand new, and designed for maximum efficiency under competitive riding conditions. The front brakes use a radial caliper with four opposed pistons, in keeping with the latest trends in racing technology. In addition to the 320 mm front disc, the system also incorporates a radial master cylinder and aeronautical hoses for maximum precision and unrivalled braking power. The rear disc is 220 mm in diameter and is also equipped with metal braided hoses for perfectly balanced braking under difficult race conditions."

I hope to organize a chalet bbq sometime in June/July open to all Aprilia Riders... anyone keen or in support of this idea? Probably we will just share the bill among some of us first? Maybe after the gathering n more common understandings, we all can get along better.

Wait till I achieve my objective.... I will be back with a more powerful engine and a more sexy bike......

Dannis pls just stop all this OK? Everyone else pls NO more of all this issue OK as I have said liao. You guys all forgot liao ha? Why want to quarrel over this kind of thing? And pls don't comment anything regarding the senior or Junior thing also la, OK? It's all over! It's always nice to have another friend then having another enemy right?

Alan u know I have been keeping quiet about the whole issue untill someone PM me to edit my post which I didnt pin-point anyone here in this forum, which he is no moderator here also. I just hate it when a friend is being repremanded n I have to try to keep quiet n then someone start to PM me n pissed me off while I have being trying to tolerate a friend being shot.....

OK like I mentioned, I shall stop here. Dont anyone PM me about the issue again, pls. I dont really want to let a Hobby turn into a argument place... lets ride n love our machines n learn to respect each other more, regardless of age.

I know nuts about technical issues so no need to ask me much but if anyone bike got problem, can give me a call n maybe I can try to help a bit.

Wait till I achieve my objective.... I will be back with a more powerful engine and a more sexy bike......

Dannis,

Hope you got your jet issue settled.

Can your bike be ready by next Tue?

Dont be too hardcore again. Better not have a repeat of the last conrod incident....

We go to track to enjoy ourselves, not to destroy our bikes. That is reserved for Aprilia Cup...

Dont worry, I havent been to track for a long time so I'll be the last man. My old tyres are hard as plastic, using worn organic brake pads meant for street, and my clutch is so worn I dont have to half-clutch to make it slip. I'm just going to familiarise myself with the Johor Circuit again. Miss that good old feeling of getting into a rhythm.

Hope we can have more people going track and using our bikes for the sole purpose the Italians designed them for.

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

Do or do not; there is no 'try'.

Well, I initially had no intentions of making this a big issue. Jerertan asked for help, I asked many questions hoping to get to the source of his problems. The posts do read as rude, arrogant. For that I apologise: Jerertan, I am sorry that i sounded demanding and rude.

However, to Jerertan, and others, allow me to explain why i was doing what i was doing: very much like how a doctor would ask you a list of questions - where do you hurt? what did you eat before you got ill? for example - I was trying to find out from him where his bike was malfunctioning. But, Jerertan, you did not respond to the questions sufficiently, which got me impatient. Note, however, i DO NOT claim to be a doctor, neither an expert on bike maintenance.

So for those who are wondering what Dannis is talking about, here is the PM I sent to him. I had no qualms about posting this publicly but for the sake of unity, i had initially wanted to keep it private. This post arises because Dannis has obviously made innuendos about a possible misbehaviour on the part of someone on this forum that has moderator privileges on the ARC. I do not mind standing up and acknowledging that, as there are very few other posters to Jerertan's questions which fit Dannis' description.

Please read my PM in its entireity, and judge for yourselves.

Hi Dannis,

i wonder if there is a need to post such a comment on the forum:

For those who are more of a critic rather than a friend.... think over again. I will try my best ( like what Viknesh does ) to help those who are in trouble or in doubt more rather than post here or there or do all those "thunder" ... got sound no light.... no action n speak onli things... even if things dont turn out good, at least we try our best rather than striking thunder......

because i wonder what you are trying to achieve with it.

let's be reasonable people here. the only posts that could be interpreted as being critical to jerertan; heck, the only posts before yours in response to jerertan's have been muser's and mine. (jonathan543 also, to be exact, but not critical)

So i take it that these statements have been directed towards me.

And i think you misunderstand what i am trying to do.

I hope i can get you to agree with me that there are many ways to help someone, and one is by the way you did it, which is to to tell him how much parts cost, and where he can get good service. That has been, to say the least, very helpful.

Another way, which in my opinion, is better in the long run, is to help him figure out what went wrong in his bike. Hence the questioning. When one is ill and goes to the doctor's, he or she will not just take one look at you and order a prescription based on his favourite drug, right? The doctor will ask what went wrong, which part of the body hurts, and other such questions.

In any case, Jerertan has not conclusively said that he has an engine seizure, unless you trust the mech that he mentioned. How many times have you heard stories of mech trying to profit from people who know nothing about their bikes?

I admit that my questioning style can be considered somewhat rude, but imagine if you are a doctor, and your patient refuses to tell you what is wrong. Would you get impatient too?

I think this forum has had enough of divisive comments; we are a small community already, there should be less of such quarrels. Please consider, this website is read by people in malaysia, and other countries too. We are, in a way, representing our country by our words here.

So, to be practical, i get your point, i will not be so impatient. If you see my point, let me know, and edit your post please. I will also do the same to mine to remove the ruder parts.

Awaiting your response.

Hi Vik, and others,

Glad to hear that you have taken the time off to think about things.

My position here on this forum is perhaps quite misunderstood. Firstly, on the senior-junior divide, it would be hard to place me exactly - i'm in fact older than Chris, while at the same time, i only got my bike last october. Yes, I am a moderator on ARC, but not because i am exceptionally talented in bike maintenance, nor chris' gay lover or anything like that (for those who cannot spot a joke, yes that was a joke. please laugh). I just happened to post on ARC quite often, and seemed to chris to be a sensible enough person to entrust such a duty.

And i think that what we are having here is a classic power struggle situation, whenever an organisation is built up, and powerful (or apparently powerful) positions declared, there will be, as humans are apt to, a struggle to fill those positions of authority and assert one's will against another.

We know enough from looking at other people's history to know how bad such a situation is. It is up to us now to persist, bull-headedly into self destruction, or rise above the situation to create something that is really different.

Communication, I think, is the key, but communication that helps one another see each other's point of view, not condescension, name-calling, innuendo, false rhetoric or otherwise other non-productive acts.

So, let me try to shed some light, and reduce the heat on the issues that you have brought up.

Firstly, with regard to the senior-junior divide, I think it would be wise to take it in perspective. There is a divide - the seniors are, in my opinion, the ones who satisfy one or more of these descriptors:

1) are old. say, arbitrarily, 25 and older. But more than that, these are the people who were around when this SBF aprilia thread was still 100-200 pages long.

2) hold demanding jobs, especially professional/semi-professional careers where overtime is considered standard, and working 15 hour days, or working from home is not uncommon. Hence the regular absences from posting/ meetups.

3) possess a similar mindset; that time is too precious to just sit somewhere and stare into space/each others' faces. Pretty likely, they have done this before when younger, and are past the phase, and would rather be discussing something serious, like the impending US-Iran war, or the upcoming elections, or how to compare the air valve to the solenoid driven valves, or even getting to know others like themselves better.

4) are married and/or have children of their own, which takes a lot of time away from being spent on other friends/ 2 wheeled vehicles.

Is it an exclusive club that only the elite may join? I do not think so. Vik, you seemed to have classified me as one of the seniors, although I have not been around long enough. Does this mean the seniors have some sort of authority over the juniors? I do not think so. Having one's mod status removed actually highlights the point that one formerly had been inducted into the 'senior' club, that one was trusted, wouldn't you say?

What privileges does one get by being a senior then? I don't know - there does not seem to be much. Vik, why not you explain why you were so disappointed in not being invited? Dinner? An open invitation was sent out for dinner last tuesday, at Holland V. I'm sure you know where that is, because it is close to you go to school. The invite certainly did not say: seniors only.

So, what am i trying to say?

We all love our bikes, even though we do not necessarily love one another. I think the latter situation needs work, like any relationship (yes, even a marriage - or else why do you think people divorce?).

There seems to be, as you have wisely observed, two distinct parties. One of which tends towards meetups, social events. Another tends towards the technical, DIY side. There also seems to be a loose relation between age and membership in the groups. Does that mean that one is superior to the other? I do not think so. Does this mean that there should be two Aprilia enthusiast clubs? I do not think so. Does this mean that a young person cannot join the older ones if he/she is technically oriented? I do not think so. Does this mean an older person cannot join the younger crowds for meetups? I do not think so.

If it seems that there have been absences by the 'senior' members, it is only because other pressures have prevented them from indulging in this passion. Singapore does not have a big enough population of aprilia riders to warrant separate clubs. We have to stand together, but not the kind of enforced unity under pain of expulsion/death seen in some countries. Also, not the kind of fake unity where issues are swept under the carpet and quietly fermenting away, to blow up in each other's faces as it did recently. We can all agree to disagree. There is no need for either party to say or imply bad things about the other. After all, we all ride the same bike.

For your consideration please.

Alan.. I think they doubt your existance leh..

Back to the point, Mike, so many people having already said to drop the subject, even Chris, in order not to shame the ARC further. Don't you know, the more you try to defend the more ARC the more its reputation goes down? How would it look like to the people overseas whom you cared so much about and for who the whole argument started about?

Drop it already, you're disgracing what you're trying to protect.

Just my two cent's worth.

And by the way, I probably know Dannis better than you do and I can say that that sentence which you pm-ed him about was not directed at you. Why are you taking things so personally? What have you done?

When something's ambiguous, call me to clarify before getting upset lah. Like dannis often says: you all have my number. I thought it was clear that anyone interested in sorting out the issue was invited to come along. Plus, I'd like to point out that the word "juniors" was never used initially. But I do understand more now why you got so pissed off. It's all cool now, right? Well, it's cool on my side, anyway.

But please do come, if work, school and family permits. Tuesday night, venue to be confirmed via SMS. Vik man, I'm going to call you on the phone after this message. Please come. I should be able to get off work around 5pm, unless some world disaster occurs, heh.
