most prob is ur mixture too rich liao... the engine dies off at higher rpm koz choked wit fuel liao. after idling for few minutes excess fuel'll be spent and u can rev up wit no problems. i supposed u experienced bogging when setting off? it's like the rpm rise to a certain level & stuck there for a while be4 continue going up again. u can rectify the problem by turning ur mixture screw leaner in small increments by 1/4 turn & test ride. dun tune too lean or ur engine'll run hotter than it's supposed to be & there'll be a loss of torque, though the rpm can rev up faster & easier.:thumb:

Its true that the mixture is too rich.

But untrue that the excess fuel burns off after a few minutes.

The bogging is not due to excess fuel, since in a rich mixture the fuel is already more in the A/F ratio, and running it for a while wont correct the ratio by 'burning off excess fuel', but simply because after the engine is warmed up the problem becomes less pronounced. You have to lean out the mixture, as it will get slightly rich as the engine is warmer.

Depending on which carburetor he is using, he may have to turn anti-clockwise to lean the mixture. Yes, 1/4 increments shld be suitable to troubleshoot this idle richness problem.

Dont have to worry about loss of torque.

This is just for the idle circuit, not the needle jet nor the main jet. He wont be able to change the jet sizes just by adjusting the idle circuit's mixture screw. He would need to remove the carb, open it, and change the jets.

Leaning out your idle mixture just means you have better response from closed to 1/4 throttle. And the engine wont be running much hotter.

Also, remember to make increments only after the engine is properly warmed up to normal operating temperatures. Make sure you're been riding around for a while before making changes to the mixture.

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

Do or do not; there is no 'try'.

OK OK.. let me specify...

My golden rules...

Never(or atleast try not to) bang the girl you ware serious with and want to marry..

One night stands are alright, no need to feel guilty becasue you dont love the person.. as long as the girl is not a VIRGIN.. even if she wants it.. Bad karma..

NEVER BANG A VIRGIN UNLESS YOU CONFIRM GOING TO MARRY HER!!!

*Rules 1&2 apply to girls of all races.. Rule # is exclusively for indian girls.. Why? Coz they will hound you to death if you dont marry.. So dont bang!

Damn, i miss Minahs...

Jaz, i got too much love to give liao.. wat to do??

well .... I never ever agree with this phrase, Without players how the game going to be play?

So no players = no games.

So blame the players not the game. Players can always choose to play the game or not but not the game. Anybody not agree?

exactly..

blame everyone else but not yourself..

afterall it's the person who makes the decision to whether to play the game or not..

and with all these postings, it jus tells a lot on the character/integrity of the person..

Thanks for the note that adjustments have to be made once the engine has reached its normal operating temp... i was about to make the changes before i decided to check up on the forum thread...

i don't know which type of carb i am using as i had the bike for only 2days now... all i know is that the adjustment screw is located right after the airbox and not before the cylinder.

i tried adjusting 1/4 increment only (counter clockwise) then tested it around my neighborhood as well as the pie and ecp for 30mins... there was a very slight change in the responsiveness but the engine would still act like it would refuse to move once in first gear, setting off from a stop, especially when i tried it in a very small inclined road i could feel that there is very little power transfer - and that's still riding alone, what if i had a pillion?

i wanted to adjust the mixture to lean it out a bit more but, being new to aprilia and 2T bikes altogether, i don't know how much adjustment would be enough. I read in the thread that it would be better to be on the richer side than on the leaner side since the latter would increase the probability of a seizure...

so i've decided to consult the forum first before i do any further adjustments...

thanks for the help guys... really.

hey bro..

if ya talkin about the mixture screw being near to the airbox, most probably it's a 34mm carb.. as the mixture screw for 28mm carb is located to the cylinder.

there's a difference for different location of the mixture screw.. if i'm not wrong, the mixture screw for 34mm carb controls the air whereas the mixture screw for 28mm carb control the petrol.. correct me if i'm wrong~~

i assume we're talking about del'orto carb over here rite?? i think it's best for ya to check out the model no. of ya carb.. it's not very difficult.. should be able to see it when ya playing with the mixture screw..

if ya're really interested doin ya own carb.. ya can always download a blowup diagram of ya carb and there are instruction manual as of which jet will affect which part of the rev..

for ya case, i think ya might just wanna down ya pilot jet.. or is it air jet?? can some1 confirm?

due to the nature of this being a single discussion thread and therefore its difficulty of being searched, i would advise you to bring your questions to the ARC troubleshooting thread. Not trying to advertise for the forum or anything, but this problem of yours is a very common problem, and it would be better for people to read about it on a more easily searchable forum than having the question asked repeatedly.

to answer your problem: if your adjustment screw is found closer to the airbox it is an air screw. So unscrewing it opens the passage allowing more air in, thus leaning out the mixture.

eyz: his one is not mixture screw! that one is closer to the cylinder side, and also, 34mm has air screw, whereas 28mm has mixture screw. and please everybody, for sanity's sake, there's no such thing as an air mixture screw!

go easy on the air screw adjustments. again, to reiterate, do it only when the engine's warm, and adjust during the time of day that you want your optimum performance (i.e. do not do carb adjustment at night if you ride mostly in the day). lean out the mixture, check to see how quickly the revs drop when you rev it up. If it is slow, then you have over-done it. Ride it around, if you experience bogging at small throttle openings, you have not done enough of it. 1/4 turn at a time is good.
