It means service ur carburetors & tell the mchanic to tune or balance the carbs as well. This one uses a specialise carb-balancing equipment la.

Go to Rosli's wkshop lah bro.

Ur sparkplugs got change or not. Mayb the fuel pump faulty (if shadow got one). Cos if pump faulty then no fuel supply to carbs lah. or maybe fuel line filter choke?

Or even maybe u never turn the fuel valve to "ON" meh?

Or the choke lever or knob is open?

Wah lau so many mayb! U let Rosli chek lah.

Incase u go other wkshop, take note: a good mechanic is not someone who can repairs but rather

someone who can detect & troubleshoot the problem effectively.

I go to Ambra Enterprises. Ram is the boss there. He rides a Shadow 400 ACE - which he rebuilt the engine. so I figure he knows the bike well. Block 5034, #01-327, Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2, (S) 569537. tel: 6453 7594 / 9705

They also paint... See what they have done for me...

The cap on your petrol tank is air tight. If you have a second key, try this experiment. Put the key in the cap. Then run up to the speed where it starts cutting out. Open the cap up to let air in the tank. If the bike starts running smoothly again you are almost guaranteed to have a kinked or blocked fuel vent line... should run from the bottom of the tank down towards the ground.

Oh yes there is. all bikes have breather hose. Imagine yourself running very fast without a nose. HA hA, how to breathe in, right.

the breather hose goes all the way to the bottom frame.

fOR DRAGSTAR its on the front right side of the frame.

normally it wont clogged up but you'll never know maybe some dirt might be trapped there.

check it out.

U can download the servis manual in PDF format from my website.

Then go to page 2 - 36.

Its called Fuel Tank Breather Hose dude.

Bro F1r3BlaDE

share wif us leh. What really happened to the pump? What the mechanic did?

i mean we learn from others, others learn from us leh.

Can? Can?:hungry:

sorry for late reply.

He said he washed the cabrator, changed the spark plugs, changed the fuel pump and re-adjust the air intake. I do think the fuel pump and air intake gives the most problem to my shadow. It coming back again when I turn my thro too fast or too hard... Maybe its an old bike... :weep:

  • 2 months later...

This jerkyness and loosing power happened to me jsut now.... thats why didn't go to meet the kruzers....

well for me i was up to about 90km...then started jerking and loosing power..... i was thinking mebbe no fuel...so then the fuel, reserve, off switch.....not sure of the name... well basically i did that and the whole engine died......

Now.... wat could it be???

1) the switch to toggle between, fuel, reseve and off....is in the sequence of 6 o'clock = fuel , 3 = reserve and 12 = off.. is that right?

2) Mebbe engine was low on fuel.... but no fuel low indicator light.... mebbe its broken...according to the previous seller... he said it will come on when the fuel is low.... but..... hmmm how do u test safely....

3) fuel pump, any distinct symtoms other than this..???

i went to pump some fuel into the bike and didn't mange to get up to speed as it started running.....

Note that i have jsut done servicing at Rosli.. plugs, wash carb.. so these 2 can't be the cause......

Other than that brush with death...i'm still loving my ride.....

think have to bring it down to MR Rosli again.....

good night guys

Lets try to answer some of your questions......

1) the switch to toggle between, fuel, reseve and off....is in the sequence of 6 o'clock = fuel , 3 = reserve and 12 = off.. is that right?

>> 12 o'clock = ON

>> 6 o'clock = OFF

(Or it could be the other way round, not too sure.)

BUT 3 o'clock ===== >>>>> OFF

Take a torch (if its dark), shine at the fuel tap, and you should see the symbols "ON", "OFF", "RES"

2) Mebbe engine was low on fuel.... but no fuel low indicator light.... mebbe its broken...according to the previous seller... he said it will come on when the fuel is low.... but..... hmmm how do u test safely....

>> This is what i thinked happened. Your bike was running low on fuel, u switched to 3 o'clock thinking it was the RES but in actual, it was the OFF and your bike just died because there was no fuel. Then after you pumped some fuel in and switched it back to ON, presto, your bike can move again.

3) fuel pump, any distinct symtoms other than this..???

>> If i'm not wrong, the Shadow 400 does not have a fuel pump.

Hi.......

Used to ride a Shadow before!

Try to answer ur questions:-

1) the switch to toggle between, fuel, reseve and off....is in the sequence of 6 o'clock = fuel , 3 = reserve and 12 = off.. is that right?

Ans: 6 o'clock = On , 3 o'clock = OFF , 12 o'clock = RES

2) Mebbe engine was low on fuel.... but no fuel low indicator light.... mebbe its broken...according to the previous seller... he said it will come on when the fuel is low.... but..... hmmm how do u test safely....

Ans: So far what I noe......there is no FUEL indicator! There is OIL indicator but that's for engine oil!

Finally.......why don't u try the advise given by StrongEagle in the earlier post. Maybe that may help! :goodluck:

no fuel tank?! or no fuel light? should be light right bro... eh anyway, fuel indicator lights and gauges on bikes don't work as good as they would do on cars seriously. if no fuel light also nvm mah... put the fuel c*** to the ON position, ride till theres no more power, then turn to reserve and find a gas station.

It's your damn bike, wash it yourself! You rinse your own mouth after you eat, don't you?

I shall skip question one since it is already answered by black phoenix. For question two, there is no fuel indicator for model before the manufacture year of 2004. Chances are, the only led that would lights up is the oil pressure indicator due to low engine oil level or no oil pressure and this may call for a potential serious action for bad oil pump. For most of the time, it is just necessary for a leveling up of engine oil to the dip stick or replacement of the plugged oil filter.

In fact, my experience on 2004 model dash panel was a puzzle one. It is presently surprise that the oil pressure indicator lights up when I hit my reserve during my run-in period which, bring me to my attention that this could be due to a plugged oil filter causing the pressure of the oil to go low thus, giving a false indication of the motorbike hitting reserve. Thus, I would like to retract any past statement made on reserve fuel indicator on Shadow 2004 model.

For your third question, you may want to try disconnecting your fuel discharge pipe and with the key turns on, the pump should push the fuel.
