also hope to see the new SWT400 or GT there

if weather allows and our expert agrees, we'll get someone to demo something simple like:

. air-screw synchronisation

. adjusting idling revs

. changing sparkplugs

too bad cannot do change of eo/filter or coolant... whahahaha

Chairman, this coming week's TCSS is on Wed or Thurs?

I thinking of Wednesday happy hour at Boiler Room in St James. They got cover charge of $12 but tiger beer is 3 for 1. After that got Disco Fever Night.

But if beer and live band is not the cup of tea for others, then the normal TCSS is ok. Wed or Thurs also boleh.

Is this over already or happening this week?

For 400cc, FC about 23-25km/L

For 600cc, FC about 19-21km/L

SW only got 16L tank and reserves starts at 12L.

Since yours only 19km/L, then:

Reserve at 228km with a balance mileage of 76km. *Total = 304km.

Top up once it hit reserve to play safe. For info, we normally rest at every 150km++ during tours.

For touring, best to maintain around rpm 6.5k, which is about 120km/h.

But note that SW can generally cruise at 140km/h also. Depends on rider.

Not sure oso..was told that the coil kinda like overheat. Seems to always burn at the location where the output wire is. Refer to the the pictures..

I uploaded a shot of the extra lights too..

My ex JDM sw coil I also already change twice and the burnt part is also about the same position as yours...

I never add on any lights to it... all stock... also spoil around a year plus.

all the while using 10-40 eo.... I also dunno y like that???

The 2nd change I got it recon and fix it back.... think it's this year may or june... will c how long this last as my bro is now the new owner of it :)

Posted
about the coil burning, ah choong ever told me it is caused by "overheating", result of using #w50 or heavier EO coz they're too heavy to "splash" cool the coil. anyone ever heard this theory elsewhere? :?

i was using the maxima extra 15w50 (its formula is heavier than the normal w50) when coil got burnt (bike still in rather stock condition then), got it replaced by BS under warranty. now faithfully follow the owners manual's recommended #w40 :thumb:

think there could be SWingers currently using the heavier 15w50 but didn't have coil problem... dunno what is what liow :p

another controversial issue is... which oil grade to use for SW's transmission oil. manual stated #w40 (same as engine oil) but most mech/shops will recommend the usual gear oil which is #w70~90.

my gears kenna problem (got garak-garak sound) few weeks after i changed to the normal gear oil (think its #w90). spent few hundreds to replace gear shaft n some stuffs, now ok liow. dunno whether its plain coincidence or really due to too heavy oil used.

now faithfully follow the owners manual's recommended #w40 :thumb:

heard there're SWingers currently using normal gear oil but didn't have gear problem... also dunno what is what liow :p

anyone got similar experience or info to share?

:cheeky:

Think its more like a "heng" "sway" kind of thing :) I think???

Mine ex JDM all the while been using those normal gear oil #w70~90 for around 3 years with no problems or any funny sound...

then my euro sw, after I change it to 10-40 oil... after few days later, I heard (garak-garak sound) which I never encounter b4 then I slowly ride to shop to check but nothing wrong with it...??? And this sound dun come everytime... only once in awhile.

But now both sw is on 10-40 oil for gear... will monitor to see if there's any problem anot...

For those still thinking about coils, rectifier and stuffs, my mech says that standard life span for these parts are about 50k plus/minus.

This also includes the FI throttle bodies (should be very dirty by then).

Well, 50k could be 2 years for most ppl, which is about time to get everything checked.
