The box is for st1300.. SW can use meh??

the SW's tail fin is somewhat able to accommodate any base plate since its a matter of drilling holes on the fin to mount the plates.

in theory, any box can be mounted on any bike as long as the box's baseplate can be securely mounted on the bike and there's space for box... bike holds brackets, brackets holds baseplate, baseplate holds box.

i.e. also can mount a rattan basket like the one below if you can fabricate a suitable "baseplate" to support it from below; guess should be a piece of cake for seng kwang

http://www.ikea.com.sg/catalog/images/110/40167125.jpg... wanna be the first SW with basket behind? :p

the wonder of SW is it comes with a strong tail fin which allows us to mount almost any baseplate, with holes drilled specifically to fit the baseplate's mount holes. also, the fin protrudes towards the rear sufficiently and allows lots of space for the box. however, we need to consider a few things:

* baseplate cannot be mounted too far forward or the box (when mounted) may obstruct the opening/closing of the seat

* baseplate cannot be mounted too far backwards or the fin's support for the plate may not be sufficient to hold the box firmly, especially when loaded

* metal baseplates are stronger than plastic ones

strong is a relative connotation... compare to a small boy, i may be strong; but when compared with you, i'm not

similarly, comparing the tail fin to many racks for top boxes which are mounted at just a few of the bikes' strong points, most would agree that the fin is relatively stronger.

in any case, how strong do you expect the support to be, to hold 100kg? even the maxia 3's (55L) recommended max loading is only 10kg, a load which both the fin and racks can easily withstand. so if someone overloads it to say 50kg and something breaks, it'll be very unreasonable to put blame on the relatively "weak" fin or rack; they're just not designed to do that job o_O

to expect the fin to be able to withstand an accident without damage before considering it strong is, imo, very unreasonable... wouldn't it be?

even the bike's main frame can be damaged in an accident, what more the tail fin.

lets be reasonable consumers

hi guys, just wanna ask where to purchase d hagon rear springs and price???? though of getting 1 set if e $$ is right...

nearest distributor is in HK... if you have friends in HK, can get him/her to buy n send it over to you, or bring as checked in luggage when they come over :D

http://www.hagon-shocks.co.uk/WorldMap.htm

POWER MOTORCYCLE SPECIALISTS

Shop No 8-9 Fook Kwan Building Grdfloor 42-44 Pok Man St Tai Kok Tsui Kowloon

alternatively, check with Hagon in UK or US whether can buy online and they send item to VPost USA or VPost Europe, then have VPost to send it back to Sg. But considering the weight, may be costly.

just returned from melaka... i was rather worried as a few weather forecast webbies say its probably gonna be wet over these 2 days. lucky for us, it was wet only in the morning and the rest was partly cloudy; only had to drive for about 1hr in the rain

can't get rooms at baba hotel (i needed 2) so no choice but to pay more to stay at puri hotel just across the street. however, no regrets as the puri hotel was really very clean and cozy; it also have a nice cozy drinking area where a tub of 4 carlsberg costs RM42 nett (wine is available but rather ex). drinking joints like the geographer cafe charges RM45++ per tub of 5 so they're somewhat equivalent; except that the pubs have live music while the hotel has convenience... just make sure don't enter the wrong room or go up the wrong bed... whahahaha

didn't get to see baba's facilities but from the looks, the feeling i got on the 2 hotels are distinctly different. renos of puri is more elaborate and baba looked more "budget"; justified by the 2 hotels pricing? another thing i'm happy with puri is its private parking arrangement (1st come 1st serve basis though), i could shop/sleep confidently without having to worry about losing my car. the parking (counted that there're proper lots for 21 cars) is actually an unused unit about 40m down the lane and its entrance is locked at "all times" by a metallic non-see through shutter gate, good that pp outside can't see what's inside. to park or drive the car out, we need to inform the hotel's security guard who will open the gate for us. baba also has a private parking behind it's premises but didn't get to see how it is but heard from counter staff that its taken cared by a security guard. distance to jonker walk? difference is negligible.

my conclusion/recommendation...

* if en-route to another destination and transiting jonker for just a night or really wanna keep expenses down to budget... i'ld probably go for baba hotel

* if i'm taking my family there for a rest-n-relax, or checking in for some romantic night... i'ld go for puri hotel without hesitation, its still budget compared to the hotels with stars :thumb:

here's a smallish review of the food we ate over the 2 days...

D1 breakfast... Soon Huat Bak Kut Teh 顺发肉骨茶 @Jln Sutera 1 (near Tmn Sentosa)

this outlet is no stranger to many kakis of the SW thread; i was first introduced to this by james aka jsilverwing.

we ordered bak kut teh 肉骨茶, giner-wine chicken 姜酒鸡, dark-soya braised chicken legs 酱油鸡脚 and the usual rice.

... BKT was good as usual with its tasty soup and tender BK pieces served in claypot; we added pig stomach 猪肚 and toufu skin 豆腐皮 to make it even better. nevertheless, my 80+ years old dad commented that the BK could be better if they could be softer or more tender, i'ld personally love that too.

... ginger wine chicken was a let down cos the meat were not tender but rather "siap" 涩 and blend. although the sauce is ok, the chicken pieces would have been better if they were pre-marinated with more seasoning and chinese wine instead of added into the clay pot during cooking; i saw that a ladle each of sauce and chinese wine were added during cooking. unlikely to order this dish again.

... the braised chicken legs were fantastic despite being just a little tint too saltish. at first look, the legs doesn't look tender despite being "dark" enough but i soon realised my mistake by judging them merely from looks. they were very tender and the meat kinda broke off from the bones in our mouth simply by suckling. for me who don't really like chicken feet to say they're really good isn't easy at all.

D1 lunch... Famosa Chicken Rice Ball 古城鸡饭粒 @off Jonker Street

our initial plan was to eat the Hoe Kee Chicken Rice Ball 和记鸡饭圆 but was very unlucky to have missed it; queued for a some time then a lady staff came out and announced "sorry, all finished" when i was finally 2nd in the line, it was about 1.30pm. she said a tour group came earlier and depleted a huge part of their stock for the day... sigh. being tired and hungry, we decided to try the Famosa since its very near. BIG MISTAKE!!! the staff from Famosa strongly recommended that the kampong chicken is better as the meat is more tasty so we ordered one half of a kampong chicken, Thai style de-boned chicken feet, rice and rice balls. imo, the only "acceptable" food on the table was the rice. the chicken meat were not tender and my dad said they felt "rubbery" when chewing. the worst is that both the chicken and deboned feet skin have a funny stench, one which my sis said resembles that of chicken poo 鸡屎味... yucks. don't think i'll visit Famosa anytime soon. no offense to the Famosa supporters but this was my personal very bad experience with its food.

D1 dinner... wanton noodles, penang laksa, lots of snacks @jonker night market

as usual, there're lots of shopping and makan available at the night market. eat this try that and before you realise, almost done with dinner. nevertheless, we still decided to eat some staple or "proper" food for dinner; cheap and good wanton noodle and penang laksa.

... the malaysian styled wanton noodles tasted good with its tender egg-noodles, special sauce (no chili) even though the other ingredients were basic stuffs like char siew and choy sum; simple yet satisfying. guess what, i went for 2nd round, same thing as the portion was quite small.

... the laksa's soup wasn't as good as those i've had before as it was not as sourish and a little blend. still quite tasty but i thought it could've been better if the soup could be stronger in asam taste. not fantastic but passable.

D2 breakfast... provided @Puri Hotel

each room booking comes with complimentary breakfast for 2 and so we decided not to waste the meal coupons. menu was somehow neither western nor asian as they have stuffs like penang cha kuay tiow, macaroni, sausages, bread toast n butter/kaya, eggs (hor pau and scrambled), etc. no complaints about the food but thought i would've been more satisfied if porridge was also served, it wasn't available. i enjoyed the coffee though.

D2 lunch... Sze Hwa BKT @Kulai

http://j-travel.blogspot.com/2009/05/sze-hwa-bak-kut-teh-at-kulai-johor.html

this is the 2nd time i'm there and almost missed it again; we arrived at about 1.30pm and they were already serving the last few bowls of the pot before packing up for the afternoon. other than the BKT, everything else is finished... no more you tiao, no more veggies or side dishes, not more pig stomach soup. the staff had to turn away some S-plated cars that arrived after us.

this is the 2nd BKT in the trip so we could do some comparisions... compared to Soon Huat we had in day 1, i would prefer the soup of Sze Hua. imo, it is more tasty with a light taste of Chinese herbs. maybe i'm being picky, but i thought Sze Hua's bak kuts have a "flaw" which BKT lovers probably won't miss picking up. don't know if its due the the bottom of pot or some other reasons, the tenderness of the bak kut wasn't consistent; as in some were really tender/soft but some were really not. i felt as if some meat were added into the original lot to increase supply as the BKT was running out fast... i wonder. maybe its intentional but a visit in the morning where stocks are plenty may reveal the truth.

D2 snacks... A&W @Jusco Bt Indah

at jusco Bukit Indah, missing out the very craved for A&W root beer float is a "sin" to some pp. i didn't commit that sin... whahahaha.

we ordered the usual root beer floats, a chicked wafer, a curly fries and an onion rings. the floats went along very satisfyingly with the fries. however, the onion rings were not as good as those served by Burger King; lost out in both looks and taste. given a choice, i wouldn't order the chicken wafer again in future as the ice-cream wafer tasted very much better. the sandwich looking thing has only some chicken crumbs and some veggies between the wafer, not tasty. alas, forget the wafer... we were there for the root beer float :thumb:

D2 dinner... Tian Lai Seafood 天来海鲜 @Gelang Patah

we arrived Tian Lai at about 6.30pm and was a little worried if they've started business for the evening. luckily, we weren't the 1st... but 2nd to arrive.

as we had A&W just few hours ago, we decided to go easy; ordered only ginger-onion flower crabs 姜葱炒花蟹, a HK style steamed red snapper 港蒸红槽鱼, balacan kang kong 马来风光 and rice. as expected of Tian Lai, the food was good and reasonably priced.

... frankly, i wouldn't rank this fish highly even though its quite fresh. don't know if its the characteristic of red snapper's meat, i thought the fish meat was a little too soft (not soggy), lacking in the munch feel or 口感. to me, i would enjoy the fish more if i could taste and feel the tenderness of the meat in my mouth instead of having it disintegrated almost immediately. taste wise, HK style steaming could hardly go wrong with its soya sauce formula unless the fish is really bad.

... kang kong today was really fresh, green, "crunchy" and not overcooked. sometimes, the kang kong would become a little darkish looking with it is fried in the fiery pan for too long. although we requested for it to be less spicy (to cater to my dad's appetite), the dish remained delicious with its strong belacan taste.

... best for the evening has to be the flower crab. this is the 1st time i'm trying them in ginger-onion style and was glad the experience turned out great; highly recommended. my sis first tasted this dish in HK and recommended that we try it instead of the usual steamed, chili fry or black pepper fry. without the strong tasting chili or black pepper, we could taste the gentle sweetness of the crab meat with a light tint of ginger and onion. only one thing to say... yummy.

hope you like my reviews... :cheeky:

Guys, my new Silverwing shock is too soft, keep bottoming out and quite a few times I scrapped the hump. I have adjust the shock to the hardest and it is still soft. Any idea where to get aftermarket shocks for the bike, mainly the rear ones?
