ic. I thought TitanicLexus meant SW grounding is special that not every mechanics know how to do the grounding for SW

Not every mech knows... is correct.

Some can open fairings but don't know where to fix the points.

Some know where to fix but can't dismantle/assemble fairings.

Save the trouble. Just install the simple PA2 (if still selling) at the battery is good enough.

erm guys, is it advice/by to place some strong magnets around the oil filter to improve the suction of small metal particles?

something like this:

result of the helps of magnet.

true?

Better don't place the magnet around the oil filter, if there is any present of metal filing due to wear and tear, magnet may concentrate the metal filing and block the return loop of the lug oil duct.

Yes.... this is what i meant, not that SW is so "special" like Uncle mentioned. Maybe i shld rephrased my word, not all mech know how to "install" :p

When i rode X8, I did experienced that the mech figure out very long to open my side fairing when i was waiting there for changing a rear signal bulb. When i asked the mech whether possible to do the grounding for my bike, he nearly fainted and telling me no need and very diff blah blah etc. Sometime later, i went to other bikeshop and noticed that, to change the rear signal light bulb only few screw instead of open the whole side fairing :dozed:

Lesson to learn, find your own mech suit for your current bike. :)

agree... i went to a reputed motorshop wanting to install the stebel magnum2 horn (few days after i bought the bike) but after "fiddling" with the head cowl for like 20+mins, the mech puts everything back and asvised me to go tai hin as he is not familiar. so i went as recommended and got it fitted with no issues :p

my SW was the 1st SW that Equipment Extreme installed the PA2 & grounding (they could only mount 4 points at that time) and it took quite a while to finish the job. a lot of time was spent locating/testing the ground points and finally settled for 4 points. imo, Elson did a good job as he tested every point with a multi-meter before installing the grounding cables, which are still on my bike after these years.

i'm guessing that my SW could be the 1st SW that changed tyres at Motoworld cos even Muji also quoted me a "wrong" price; but he very steady, kept his word and i paid only $145 (inclusive of labor and nitrogen gas pump) for a pair of diablo scoot tyres... swee. however, it was quite a worrying affair watching the mechs literally "trial-n-error" trying to change the rear tyre as they simply go by guessing. took out some panels here-n-there, no go, put back... almost fainted :faint: in the end i had to call a fellow SWinger for "over the phone how-to" help.

just sharing... no mech knows every bike well, even the very experienced and reputed.

no ill intent nor bad mouthing

keep, why not? it's still working good.

i'm changing it as an insurance cos didn't want to take any chance of it failing when touring overseas, especially when en-route at some ooloo place in the mountains. that's why it's good to carry certain critical spares for long trips, but make sure know how to change :p

insurance... paid but hoped never to utilise

No hard and fast rule how long the Rectifier or Coil will last.

Some use it for years and others may change within 6 months.

Those who changed within 6 mths are not playing safe, but its because the coil got fried.

Some say, its due to EO, some say its due to constantly riding at high RPM, temperature, etc..

Hi guys, I'm new to Silverwing, but considering it vs Tmax as my new bike.

Is Silverwing 600cc available in S'pore? Boon Siew website doesn't have.

Saw some of the recent servicing posts. When you bought the Silverwing, does it come with a servicing manual in English?

just like what SW9000 said, there's not clear lifespan... a lot depends on usage and luck :p

for e.g...

* my first change of magnetic coil was only few months after purchase, got it replaced under warranty at boon siew.

* my 2nd change was a few years later (2011), replaced at AC Motor

* existing rectifier is still good after being on bike since manufacture in 2006; changing now cos wanted "insurance" when touring :thumb:

Erm 6months? That's playing too safe le. Lol..

they change not because they want to, but bo pian :giddy:

to prevent getting caught off guard, there're a few measures (or advises we got from the mechs):

* do not use too heavy an engine oil or the magnetic coil could not get splashed sufficiently for "cooling"

* use a voltmeter... engine off ~12V, started/idling +/-13V, riding >14+V (charging systems usually output >14V to charge the battery)

* if voltage readings fall below "specs", get mech to test charging system's output at terminals located behind the right side pillion foot rest unit

* if batt is ill (not critically yet), usually can hear a faint and continuous "eeeeee" sound with ignition on (engine not started); not the sound from system check or the ECU powering up

* pay attention to the starting crank, with ease or weak crank

ill battery could be due to:

* age of chemical & electrodes inside... SW uses maintenance free type so maintenance is outside equation

* sulfation ... common when battery (bike) is left aside which charging over prolonged periods

* not properly charged... charging system got problem

cheers

boon siew brings in only SW-T400 (400cc) euro version (FJS400 in the past), ABS variation can be ordered with top up of about $1.2+k over basic model. 600cc SW (think all are JDM Japanese version) are all parallel imports by shops such as Looi's, Mah, etc.

why not drop by our gatherings and have a chat with SW9000 who rode the Tmas and both versions of SW (FJS & SWT). he has lots of "story" to tell... pluses and minuses :p
