I see, no worries :D I oso did replaced my clutch spring to malossi together with the torque spring hence my biting point is higher which is ard 3k le..

happen to read back and realised i got the names torque spring & clutch springs jumbled up... the springs holding the clutch pegs inwards are clutch springs, my bad. torque spring (also known as contra spring) is the big one at the centre that presses the rear variator plates together.

from you latest detailed description, we could be quite sure that the burning smell is from the clutch pads. i'm pretty sure you can reproduce the chow-tar smell if you repeat the process again, i.e. creeping upslope at biting rpm for about 30 seconds.

 

this is not considered a clutch slip as this "slippage" is supposed to happen by design; we call this "half-clutch" in driving. imagine what will happen if clutch immediately becomes fully engaged upon throttling... bike will fly forward, rider also http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/TV_and_Movies/superman-239.gif

at "biting point", the 2.5k~3k rpm generate just sufficient centrifugal force for pegs to "bite" the bell but not a full grip, i.e. clutch pegs/pads are not holding the bell firmly but are "rubbing" hard against the bell, producing sufficient friction to partially turn the bell which in turn turns the wheel via the gear assembly.

the more rubbing, the hotter it becomes... hmmm... sounds errrr :lol:

 

half-clutching cause wearing to the pads but it is a necessary aspect of automotive clutch designs (cars' clutch systems also use similar concept). clutch contact/friction is manually controlled by the driver in the case of manual cars, and automatically by the auto-trans system in the case of automatic cars. prolong the half-clutch in manual car or bike, we will always get the burning smell. burn too long, clutch plate/pads get worn or damaged and need replacement.

 

$66 for a clutch peg/set is good price. but if add 7% GST (becomes $70.62) and labor cost, total replacement cost becomes much higher. if you motorshop can do everything for $80+, i'ld recommend to let them settle everything :p

Sometimes when the time come...You need to downgrade....My friend had a Busa...Even commute, each year changes 3 rear tires.....

If you dont tour or track, its burns your pocket....

About 20000km bah...Busa even u commute, the rear lasts for 8000km or so....

First of all, I have given up on those 1 hour touch and go trips to KL etc etc.

And yes, being a middle age man, my patience has grown much better these days.

I can easily go through 3 pairs in a year too. It's the torque on the busa at eats up the tires.

Most importantly, I'm trying to minimize my carbon footprint..hahaha

Just traffic light sprint...Those ride busa knows it....3 tires per year is not very hard to obtain based on 20k km...Busa can kill a rear tire in less than 1000km if you go track and ride like u stole it...I still like sport bikes just that now have 2 very young kids and wife not working....Well that can come later again when I am in my forties or early fifties..

 

4 years ago my track session at GP, I saw 2 Ah lao...One with 1098 and the other with KTM 1000ccI forgot the model...2 of them in their fifties with not much hair but with helmet on ride like those in their twenties...I inspire to be like them....Maybe that time with my sons in GP.......

I would like to learn how to corner with the knee down, like gp. Maybe also need to wait till fifties. Hopefully they take senior students :)

 

Btw, not too difficult to take out the air filter.

hey bros, I finally got my SW today! May I know what are the recommended enhancement to this bike? other than the headlight protector, is it still $40? And may I know where is A.C. Motor, is it still at 10 Kaki Bukit Rd 2 #03-02 First East Centre, S417868? I understand alot of fellow SW bros go there. lastly the bikeshop say my warranty in with B.S, how do I check? Sorry for asking so many qns, this thread is too long to finish it in 1 days!
