Wooot!

While using green 29g rollers... 390km @ 14.5L = 26.9km/L.

My usual was 25km/L.

With regards to the roller weights and their rpm, shouldn't lighter weights move out faster thus engaging the clutch at lower rpm?

it's all about centrifugal forces...

check out tech corner post #16... section about rollers.

same thing is here http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/225675-SBF-Silverwings-Cafe-2009-2010-JDM-Euro-400-600?p=7241681&viewfull=1#post7241681

I see... So heavier rollers will move off at a lower rpm cos needs less force to move the rollers to move the variator plates...

the casing that contain this ? the clutch assembly is rubbing the casing causing uneven wear... i read the tech posts but no picture of that part i'm asking.. i should have take a photo of mine...

Just wondering is there a limit on the amount of wear on roller plates and clutch assembly with the casing...

My 12v socket is at underseat. : )

This is a great idea and easy to do. Got mine done :)

yup.

the engineer who came out with this design is brilliant...

simple parts + basic science = simple & easy to maintain working machine

simple machine = less variables contributing to breakdowns = higher reliability

many scooterists play around with the "change-ables" (without investing in after-market variator sets) to get different performance out of the CVT system... playing with the variables affecting centrifugal force, such as mass (weight) of object being swung, speed of rotation (rpm), etc.

for example:

Rollers

. lighter rollers for better pickups in city riding; require higher rpm (section of curve nearer to max torque) to pull the bike from stationary

. heavier rollers for touring; lower rpm to get same speed compared to when using lighter rollers, less strain on engine n better FC ba

some replace the regular round rollers with sliding "rollers" such as Dr Pulley. imo, the improvement in pickup is mainly due to their lighter weight, not because it is some revolutionary product. some users complained of higher wear-n-tear, you decide whether its worth the risk ba. similar effect can be achieved using lighter rollers though.

Clutch Springs/Pegs

. a "stiffer" spring needs more pulling force to lengthen it. similarly, using stiffer after-market clutch springs required higher rpm to swing (using centrifugal force) the clutch pegs outwards towards the clutch bell in order to grip it.

. in US, some SWingers modify the clutch pegs by drilling holes in them (at the body section). this removes some materials thus reducing the weight of each peg. similar theory as when using lighter rollers, lighter clutch pegs require higher rpm to swing them outwards in order to bite the bell.

Torque/Contra Spring

. torque spring is the big spring that presses the 2 rear variator plates together, shifting/squeezing the belt outwards to attain lower "gear ratios".

. using a stronger torque spring, we get faster "returns" thus experiencing something we commonly call engine brake.

. using a softer torque spring, there is less engine brake but may have issue when we want to "drop gear" quickly (buy closing throttle) and then pull with more torque from engine (e.g. to go up slopes).

hope these info gives you an idea on how pp play around with the various parts of the CVT transmission we have

but at your own risk hor :cheeky:

Anyone here knows physically how to actually remove the transmission components urself? Perhaps we can organise a DIY session and hence we can actually compare the components condition as well as learn how to basically maintain our silverwing? Keen? Senior pls help out ;D

One of the nuts is very hard to remove w/o an air gun and needs to tighten to a high torque. Think only SW9000 DIY so far.

Hi all SW riders,

Sorry to highjack this thread. Its been almost 3 years since I've been here and I've long sold my beloved SW. :(

Anyway I've a brand new never used original SW rear light set for sale.

Bought it from Boon Siew for about $280, now selling at $199. Its for Euro 400 model but probably can fit the JDM and 600 ones as well.

Do sms or watsapp me at 97337544 for quick deal.

If you have any bros who are looking for the parts cheap do tell them too.

Thanks, and happy riding!

If bike shop service for you previously, then no choice should go back.

Because they usually lock it too tight.

Normally you'll need a Y shaped tool (can DIY... someone here has got the measurement) to secure the variator in place then use a wrench to loosen the nut.

Alternatively, can buy from Autobacs the 12v impact wrench. This it much easier.

I see, haha.. if diffficult to remove then perhaps we can DIY something else?

Eg. we can get together to learn how to physcially change engine oil, transmission oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs, tuning and more with supervision from

seniors riders here.

Haha anyone keen?

I quite interested. I can change plugs, bleed brake oil and air filter....I would like to learn to change transmission oil.

These 2 weeks no meetup as all seniors 出山. I'm thinking to change all brake hoses to steel braided. Anyone has the lengths for non-ABS FJS? Actually I'm thinking to change the CBS such that the front activates 2 pistons instead of 1. Might need to use a bigger brake master pump. Any thoughts on this?
