A video production by Catrol motor oil on how viscosity and friction modifier can dampen the performance of manual transmission. Hope this video helps to clear the cloud if SWING can use car EO.

indeed a useful/informative video that reinforced the idea of friction modifiers causing clutch slippage in wet-clutch systems.

however, SW's clutch is a dry-clutch type located in the driven face assembly... if kenna oil, means some gasket/seal at drive shaft(s) (drive assembly or driven assembly) in trouble liow :p

some common causes of clutch slippage for SW...

* worn clutch pegs and/or bell

* dirt trapped between the "friction surfaces" impeding proper grip

* dirt trapped in the pivot pins impeding proper movements of clutch pegs

* oil that's not supposed to be there in the first place

* defective parts, etc.

there's a smallish write-up on common issues of "driven face assembly" at tech corner post #16

imo, the "contentious" issue for SW using car motor oils is the oil manufacturers' claim that bike formulated oils have extra additives that make those oil more suitable for running at higher running rpms; to prevent excessive or premature wear and tear.

fact is, there're lots of racing grade car oils in the market that can run at high rpms. but if we're going to pay for such premium car oils, then no more savings for using car oils le :pity:

see tech corner post #54 & #56

As for the so called "specially formulated for motorcycles/scooters" oils with anti-wear and extreme pressure additives, these are probably useful when we intend to visit those performance "zones".

Just how fast/long do you intend/usually ride locally, especially with all the traffic lights and jams in the city? The opportunity to rev the engine a bit is probably on the Expressways, which are also quite jammed up during peak hours. Even that, we're looking at short intervals of higher rpm, unlike touring.

I don't mind drive shaft or even the belt system of the tmax 530.

Without rollers, variators, clutch... it'll be less moving parts and less variables for maintenance.

how about a hybrid SW that can run like >50km/L? :p

A couple of years back I believe they were thinking... but the system will take up all the space in the underseat.

think he's referring to the burgman650. btw afc project on hold. been busy with my newborn:D

AN650L3 (current): All mod transferred.

SW-T400 (till oct 13): voltmeter, safety features disabled. coocase v36+remote. Adjustable, folding Brake levers. Givi AF318 windshield. on-off switch(pilot light, head light, hazard light), electrical seat unlatch,Dr pulley.

AN400K6 (apr07-dec11): side deflectors, J Costa variator, Dr pulley slider + HiT clutch.

YP250, RVF400/RS250, NSF125.

I mean the DCT... with only the final drive shaft (Burgman650) or drive belt (Tmax530). * I don't like chain.... dirty and difficult to maintain.

DCT is in the engine and it connects directly to the final drive mechanism. There is no CVT; variator, rollers or SW/Tmax clutch system.

Therefore less noise (saved the pigeon) and less replacement due to fewer moving parts.

DCT + shaft = Yes

DCT + chain = No

Chains are noisy, oily, dirty and requires frequent checks and maintenance. Alignment not straight will cause a lot of noise and premature wear... Don't want to spend too much time cleaning ar...
