No photo lah. Maybe John will post some. He uploaded a few in the facebook.

Day 6:

Morning too a ride to Doi Suthep temple. Drizzling. Nice temple in gold.

Can either climb the super long steps up or pay 20 baht for the cable elevator, similar to Penang hill type.

Entrance was 30 baht.

Then visited X- Centre for lunch. Thats where most of the adventure things are happening in Chiang Mai. Got ATV, painball, go kart drift, bungee jump, etc. We didn't try.

Tonight got giant parade. Will get HRO to get more mei mei photos.

Tmr... Finally... Golden Triangle!

aiya...wasted.. hw to find john on fb uh? Noob leh

Day 7:

Rode orth today and visited the white temple. Superly beautiful and artistic. Must visit if u ever in Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai.

Follow up with Golden Triangle. Nice place and took some pictures before the rain caught up with us.

Rode in the rain to Mae Sai and took so long to find the hotel eventhough we were standing just in front of it.

Day 8:

Early morning took a walk up scorpion temple and the Border post.

Then visited beautiful Mae Fah Luang/Doi Tung Royal Villa. Learned something inspirational about the King's mother.

Followed the gps and took the trunk roads to Fang Hotspring. Superly tight bends, multiple u-turn type downslope curves... Left u-turn curve then 20m followed by right u-turn then 20 m... Turn until blur blur.

After the hot spring, a long ride to Pai. Took us 3.45 hrs to clear 195km and Pai 726 curves (98km) alone took out 2.30hrs.

Pai, a really small town full of visitors. Long pasar malam walking street. Staying at bungalow style with fan and mosquitos. Adventure for me but not sure how the other 2 felt.

Tmr... A lazy day with another 3hrs of corners to Mae Hong Son!

indicator is auto at 24k interval. nothing to do with your own belt service. if last change was not done by u. then better get cheked or changed so u can track the servicing.

A dropped bike doesn't change anything inside the transmission.....so it is safe to travel on the long dist ride out?

The back of the transmission housing near the rear wheel holds a bearing for the clutch assembly. But it's unlikely to affect it. Monitor for anything abnormal.

Sounds like a runaway incident where hit and run. :)

Day 9:

Left Pai after hotel breakfast.

Start at 10.30am and reached MHS at 1pm.

2.5 hrs, cleared the best route so far (110km). Like Simpang Pulai corners but on hill top looking over clouds and valleys.

Hopefully the route down to Mae Sariang would be same or better.

Day 10:

Today taking a 1 day rest and join group tour to the area around Ban Rak Thai.

Btw, the hotel we are staying was not bad. A small guesthouse type with aircon and cable tv. Got sheltered parking. Owner is very friendly, speaks english and has a facebook called... Boondee House.

if plain drop from stationary and not slammed down to floor as in a "buang", should be no issue.

areas that usually take the brunt during a normal drop are:

* handlebar... especially if it "poked" the floor, check that it's still aligned and straight

* side of head cowl... other than scratches, frames holding front tupperwares (not chassis) may be deformed if impact is high, black dashboard may become "out of shape" if unlucky. if you controlled the drop, then usually is scratches nia.

* if drop on right side, exhaust... usually no issue except scratches to the chrome guard cos that's a very heavy duty item on the bike

* if drop on left side, black transmission case and rear tupperware... clutch assembly is protected by the rear transmission case that's actually quite strong. scratches to case and rear tupperware is not issue, can easily change or respray.

touring after dropping bike? no worries... just make sure bike is properly maintained and do your pre-tour servicing.

i've also dropped my bike before, and had no issues during my trips to thailand & m'sia due to the drops.

issues i encountered so far during tour:

(1) worn final drive gears/shaft after returning from Hatyai

recommendation: follow what the owners' manual say... use 10w40 motor oil for final drive transmission and NOT gear oil.

see post at tech corner. imo, gear oil is ok for local riding but not for touring.

(2) magnetic coil partial failure at Melaka

recommendation: change the coil (consider rectifier too) if it's already 2+ years old before going on looong tour. depends on how far up you are, towing back from m'sia or thailand could costs you >$1+K and >$2k respectively.

(3) holan

btw, curious what's the definition of "long dist"... to Melaka? KL? Penang? Hatyai? Phuket? MHS? Vietnam? :p
