For some reason, the SW throttle grip is causing my to itch. I heard BMW grip is comfortable.

anyone using it, I find the original grip somehow thinner then compared to X10....that was so comfy.

where can I go to have the throttle grip replace?

 

After changing to BMW Grip, it is so much more comfortable and my hand no longer have the itch issues. Thanks Scooby for your advise.

 

On the same note, even the bike shop which I get the bike from does not know why the stock grip feels sticky.

maybe someone did some sticky slimy grip job with it ... whahahaha

 

but seriously, stickiness in vulcanised rubber are usually caused by the materials reaction with atmospheric moisture, rain and perspiration from hands, oxygen in the air and heat. most rubber for grips are mixed with stabilisers to slow down the "oxidation" process but there're always abnormal cases in manufacturing... the one you got could be just one of the X-piece

Why rubber bands spontaneously melt and later, the sticky mass solidifies and becomes brittle?

 

Raw natural rubber is too sticky and soft to be of much use, so it is toughened by the addition of chemicals such as sulphur, which create cross-links between the chains, making the rubber stiffer and less sticky. This process is called vulcanization of natural rubber.

 

With time, oxygen and ultraviolet light in the atmosphere react with the rubber, creating reactive radicals that snip the polyisoprene chains into shorter segments.

 

This returns the rubber to something like its original state, which is why rubber bands become soft and sticky after some time.

 

If the rubber is left like so for longer period of time, these radicals form new, short cross-links between chains. This hardens the rubber and eventually turns it brittle. Any vulcanization agents left in the rubber contribute to the process. Thus this strange behavior of rubber bands is observed.
