hi ellamcoy

welcome to the SW / scooter community ... hope you'll enjoy the comfort & storage space available from a maxi scoot

yes, the SW is the heaviest class 2A scooter in singapore, and it's the quietest with a solid/heavy stock exhaust further masking the sound from its parallel twin engine; SW is also the only class 2A scooter with parallel twin engine. but if you change exhaust to leo vince (plus take out silencer), that's another story liow.

quieter than bicycle? maybe... in future when SW runs on electrical power :p

read more about SW at Tech Corner here

Silverwing 400cc / 600cc Tech Corner

IMO, SW400 is unlikely to be more powerful than S4 considering the power-to-weight ratio between the 2 bikes, and also whether the S4 engine and rider's wrist have Vtec or not.

e.g. put our kaki James on a S4 with vtex, normal SW400 should smell smoke

btw, the SW is designed more as a touring maxi-scooter, providing comfort (stability, smooth and quiet engine, big seats, windshield, etc) and utility (55L underseat storage). weighting about 240kg (before barang barang & rider weight) and with a 2285mm length/770mm width, this class 2A giant is definitely less zippy in the congested traffics as compared to the lightweight and much shorter runners or downtown.

if you're looking for pickup in a big scooter, can consider the Tmax or BMW :p

but since you've bought the SW, try see if you could enjoy and appreciate the beauties of this "mother of 2A scooters"...

have fun

Hi Scoobydoo bro! Wow appreciate your warm welcome!

Yup certainly, in term of top speed, S4 should rule. Had tried about 130 on the Swing and wasn't convince about its stability lol - nothing to grip on. For S4, a convention riding posture can be more manageable with the use of our body weight to maneuver the mechanical masses with our butt & hips =)

Thank you for the comprehensive tech link! I had read somewhere about the JDM or something which by the EFI is different and one model actually run more economical then the other. How can I assess which model is my ride?

Nope the bike is very factory at this point hahaha. I just dropped $400 to replace the steering cone, wind shield, implemented a head light switch, serviced the suspension forks, installed a pair of air-horns and some ah-beng stickers from auntie shop :cheer:

But hor... while most other bikes can go faster than SW when on tour, wait till you reach your destination.

SW riders seldom suffer from sore balls, sore butts and crampy legs.

when you're SW is well tuned and in ship shape, speedo 110-130 kph is a smooth ride along NSHW but strongly not recommended on SG roads... too risky.

that's our most common SOA when on tour up north (except when in heavy traffic/jams), ground speed (based on GPS) is around 7+ kph lower.

you're right that unlike a motorcycle, there's nothing for our legs to grip onto when riding a scooter; the 3 grip points are our butt and 2 feet... there're goods and bads of this.

you'll have to learn how to handle a scooter (especially a heavy one), it's different from a motorcycle but not difficult.

air horns? do note that air horns can't pass inspection hor.

or is it the electromagnetic like the Stebel TM80/2 (twin tone "snail" pair) or Hella Supertone (large cupcakes pair)?

i've heard of bikes with air horns failing inspections... i was seriously considering the Stebel Nautilus (Mustafa got sell) but went for the snails to play safe.

per LTA website, air horns is in the list of "modifications that are not allowed"

http://www.lta.gov.sg/content/ltaweb/en/roads-and-motoring/modifying-your-vehicle.html

there're still many things you can do to make your ride safer... mentioned in the tech corner

have fun and ride safe

My bike started to have this screeching sound when moving off but goes away after clutch engages. Damn irritating.

Tried holding the brakes and reving to 4k rpm for 1 second as I read it could be clutch glazing. The sound goes away but comes back after a few days.

Pretty sure my clutch is not slipping as the pick up is still stable and I when i throttle dont feel rpm surging corresponding with slow acceleration.

Time to change clutch plates?

Open and check.

Sometimes just a bit of cleaning will do.

Sometimes could be the Bell or even the clutch roller bearings worn...

04... that would be an 11 year old SW?

There aren't many scooter specialist service shops in SG, especially for bigger maxi-scooter.

Most would have visited ACM at 1 time or other. You can let him do an initial check on your bike and see what needs to be replaced or serviced.

10 Kaki Bukit Road 2, ground floor on the left.

If the engine is ok, the rest are just normal wear and tear issues.

thanks SW9000.

Was also cautious about the age of the bike...but the condition and engine is still very good.

Thanks for the recommendation...will drop by next week for a check.

Ya, I agreed with you hahaha. The seat is damn comfortable with plenty of "meat" lol.

The previous owner had Eugene saddle to makeover the seat - almost feel like sitting on a sofa without backrest lol

Hahahaha so far I am still able to keep the traffic in my side mirrors when the lights turned green

The trouble is to squeeze the Swing right to the front lol. Tour is really tempting... maybe got to get use to it

for sometime hahaha.

Had installed the snail type horn within the head fairing, the dB is reasonable. Unless LTA decide to "faring-off" the ride else i hope it is okay. Had installed similar horn on my ducati and

Honda wave, didnt got into any complication so far hahaha.

My concern is more towards the rider's response time and the braking distance which was the reason for the loud horns lol.

Braking is quite scary for me as i was quite used to 3-pots brembo and Nissin :giddy:

So far I am on my second tank getting only 20-21km/litre :cry:

Starting to miss my ah-pek Honda Wave with 50km/litre

oh... snail horn har... that one no problem la.

you mentioned air horn so i tot you installed the compressed air type

i'm currently on the snails too, but would like to try the large "cup-cakes" Supertone from hella...

http://www.hella.com/hella-sg/assets/images/content/Horns_3(2).jpg

specs wise, they're louder (118dB) than the snails (110dB) and weather proof too.

• Corrosion and water-spray resistant

probably fabricate a bracket and mount them just in front of the steering stem facing forward to get the max effect :p

braking... unlike the lighter road bikes with more "kilat" brakes, we're talking about stopping a >315kg moving mass (e.g. bike 245kg, +10kg kit/barang barang + 60+kg solo rider) with only a single disc brake in front and another at the rear. personally, i would love to see honda upgrade SW's front brakes to a twin discs, to further enhance its CBS and ABS (if fitted).

* must factor in a longer stopping distance compared to the lightweight wave you were riding

* CBS cannot do what an ABS do; if you grip in hard enough, the brakes will lock and next thing you'll feel may be the tarmac liow

20-21km/l ... FC may be on the higher side.

do you ride aggressively? JDM or euro FJS model?

isthis givi 214Dt any use?

214DT already taller than stock windshield.

Unless she is very tall, if not would be just hiding behind you and won't get the wind.

But 214DT is know to flex more than stock. Not sure got effect?

Anyway, should try get some feedback from riders who pillion with the Airflow AF214.

Opps my bad, mentioned wrongly hahahaha, it is the plastic type not the one in your pix. The one you have shared actually look cooler :cheer:

The one i had installed probably is LTA friendly as the towkay doesn't want to compromise business integrity. Had the same snail type mounted in my ducati 748 last time but the

entire pair melted after two weeks due to the overwhelming heat. The thought of it almost reminded me about the smell of my burnt leg's hair from the twin exhaust lo

Ya, i realized that i will need to keep two cars length during normal days and maybe three-four car length for wet roads.... these knowledge saves lives =)

Oh, damn i think i may have gotten the JDM as i remembered staring at the "turbo" button... but duno what it does.... Any advise to improve the FC?

Thank you for highlighting the links, really appreciate the intel scoobydoo bro!

Try relax ride.. 80-90km/h.. U will get 25km/ FC
