bad day today. change tyres with valves at JB 5days ago. this morning went to petrol station to pump air. rear tyres begin to leak air. by the time i reach workplace, the tyres is almost flat.

have to push the bike about 2km to the nearest bike shop although i know the mechanic skill is not that good but not much of a choice left. not an easy task as the flat tyres make it hard to push.

changed both valves as the valves quality is not good. not wonder it cost 2 for RM10 while in singapore it cost 10plus for 1 valve.

when i reached home, i discoverd the rear tyres valve is badly installed as the top gasket is torn. hope it does not develop any leak...

not to mention my bike dropped twice within a week... got to shower with flower water:cheeky:

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask but I kinda need help.

I bought a 2nd hand bike from a shop at Auto Bay and within 2 months, it gave a lot of problem. The mech told me to change the cam then gasket then piston and piston rings and one more thing that I forgot which he said it'll costs $350 including labour costs and workmanship.

Is this really too much? I'm a bike idiot and this is my first bike after passing. I have never asked other shop as many people say this particular shop at auto bay is one of the recommended shops to go.

Does the lemon law apply to his as well? Kinda regret getting the bike from them already leh. Feel like kena carrot from them.

Please advice. Thanks.

Lemon law? Good luck on that. Did you checked before you buy? Why so secretive of the shop name? If you feel they have cheated you should you not warn others about it?

I did check before I buy. It was ok for the first month and problem started to come from then on. I didn't even speed over 100 as this is my transport bike from home to office and vice versa.

The shop is H**. Guess it's better buying 1st hand bikes after all.

According to the website, the lemon law states this:

What does Lemon Law cover? Does it cover secondhand goods

and sale/discounted items?

A2: The Lemon Law covers all consumer goods, except real property

and rental/leased goods. Perishables and consumables are also

covered but the presumption that defects reported within six

months exists at the point of delivery will only apply up to the

normal shelf-life of the perishable/consumable, if the shelf-life is

less than six months.

The proposed lemon law applies to both new and secondhand

goods, and vehicles, as protection is likely to be most needed for

such goods. This is also in line with Lemon Laws in overseas jurisdictions. However, the terms may apply differently since it

would be reasonable to expect new goods to be in better

condition than secondhand goods. The courts will take into

account the age and price paid for a secondhand good when

determining reasonableness of claim. For example, someone

buying a 10-year-old car from a dealer could not reasonably

expect it to be like a brand new car. However, he can expect it to

perform in a manner that may be reasonably expected of a car of

that mileage and model. If it does not do so, the consumer can

seek remedies from the dealer.

Discounted products or sale items, with slight defects or

limitations are not excluded from the law, but any defects or

limitations of these goods should be pointed out to the consumer

before the transaction, and the retailer would not be held liable

for them.

Question is how did you checked the bike considering you yourself said you are a bike idiot and this is your first bike ever? And again good luck on trying the lemon law. Seriously.

Hi all, my spark's headlight(high beam/low beam) switch got stolen last night. Is it possible for me to buy the switch alone or do I have to buy the full set??

ah wan bo share!

Kepo lah you. This was what I PM-ed him and I hope this goes on with other riders as well before making decisions.

When you choose to buy 2nd hand goods be it bikes or laptops or phones, you should have already considered the risk factors like 'wear & tear' and so on. Many people do not want to take the risk, so they get 1st hand instead so their bikes will have lesser problems & their minds can be at ease. Majority of riders here are lucky. They got themselves a very good condition 2nd hand bike while some of us are not.

As he mentioned, he used the bike for 1 month and there wasn't any problem at all. Before buying he also checked and everything looks normal. I have to say certain problems are really not predictable. Today we can be healthy and the next day we can be down with fever. Same goes to bike parts. Today your battery/rectifier/coil can be absolutely fine and the next day your bike can suddenly decide not to start. Mechanics are not wizards where they can predict all problems.

I am not saying it is his fault but I guess he can't really blame the shop either unless he is saying yesterday he collected the bike, then today start to have problems. Then that I would say is really the shop's problem. But his problem kicked in after the 1st month.

So far I have ridden 3 second hand bikes (X1, CB400, DRZ) & 1 first hand bike (Spark). For all 3 second hand bikes I rode, I spent the first few months getting rid of all the wear & tear parts, spending hundreds & thousands. After that, bike works as good as new. So that is the risk we all should have considered before we decide to get a 2nd hand bike.

Full set. Or DIY yourself. I've seen a rider stuffing a small nail in it. Then he just push the nail up & down for low/high beam.

Btw ur first hand spark got give u any problem for first few years?

Bought it in Jul 2010. About 4-5 months later bike died off coz of my aftermarket CDI. So not counted as bike problem. The problem only came in 2.5 yrs later when the rectifier became faulty. Up till now, no issues yet from my friend who is subriding it.
