Dear SBF bros & sis,

Wanted to tap the vast knowledge and experience out there with regards to the above topic. I'm currently looking to upgrade my rear shocks and would like opinions from bikers out there. (I would appreciate it if only bikers who have actually used the various upgrades gives their comments.) Thank you in advance and reide safe, people... :)

1) Spring upgrade (from Bikelab)

2) Spring Upgrade (from Hyperpro)

3) Bitubo shocks w/o canister

4) Bitubo shocks w canister

The above are the 4 options that I would really appreciate personal opinions on for those who have actually tried them out. Many thanks in advance...

spring upgrade offers a higher/lower springrate, corrected to your weight and riding style. stock showa suspension for s4 are too soft for most riders. damping function still remains the same, as you are still using the same absorber.

however, with a total change of suspension, damping functions are upgraded, and at the same time, you get more functions out of the upgrade, like high/low speed compression damping for certain models.

bitubo w/o canister offer rebound and preload adjustments.

bitubo w/ canister offer both functions above, with an additional adjustment of high/low speed compression.

some riders would go for a rebuild on the showa, with new valvings. it is slightly cheaper, but if the technician ain't sure of what he/she's doing, you are pretty much screwed.

Stock is good...Choose your weapon wisely and enjoy it...you can have all the $$$$ to mod and in the end you can't make full use of it....

Hey Archer,

Thanks a million for that insight. Twas really helpful.

I'm more inclined towards buying the Bitubos simply coz they have resale value. Even if I found a reliable guy to do up the original Showas, and it does cost me a bit less, that upgrade would be worth squat when I decide to sell the bike, coz at the end of the day, it's still the stock Showa..

I'm also ordering the Hyperpro Progressive spring kit from Motoworld for my front. Been told good stuff about it from some senior riders.. Thought of ordering the back springs as well, but they only have PURPLE, and that totally ruins the styling of the bike. The Bitubos (especially the canister model) totally complements the look of my bike, but ruins the wallet.. :dozed: But I guess one can't have their cake and eat it as well, eh?

Thanks again for all your input. Anyone else care to share?
