Thanks for the tip :)

Probably after you rode, due to the movements of the parts, the sound went away temporary.

Just get their lubricant at MS (if you don't want to buy one) and spray at those recommended parts by Parotae.

Anyway, I spray my lubricant on my side stand, main stand and other moving metal parts. Even the suspension.

My regular bike shop has an exact Like in red in his shop. Still unregistered after more than a year. Guess not many people are going for it.

Maybe you would like to do a short write up on the scoot like the FC, features and handling to raise the awareness of this model.

I personally have seen a couple of them on the road.

I guess those who want the retro look would likely go for a Vespa or a Lamb. But if you could state what drew you to this scooter, it may entice others to consider this model.

Yup,

Price wise will be a good start.

Ok, let me take a stab at it.

1.Price : 7K plus, when I bought it in the last week of Dec 2011

2.Power : 163 cc air cooled engine. My other ride is a Phantom TA 200, so really cannot compare. I have never ridden a scooter before. I am not a hard rider but I notice that it accelerates very quickly from 0 to 40. Then it pulls

up rather quickly upto to 60. The acceleration from 60 to 80 is a bit slower. I am still breaking in, so have not touched max speeds. I have read that it can do 110 km/hr.

The power is good enough for city riding in my opinion. The disc brakes are really good with lots of stopping power. Of course it is not the fastest bike in its category. The Kymco Downtown 125 is probably a little more powerful if you look at the specs as it has a water cooled engine. But then, I am told that a forced air cooling on a scooter means lesser maintenance.

3.Fuel consumption : So far the scoot is giving me 30 km / l but I am still running in (only 350 km so far). Will update once I finish 3 services.

4.weight : about 110 kg

5.Fuel capacity: 6 litres

6.Comes with what accessories: Came with a colored box and Chrome skirting.

7.Maintenance cost: I am told that maintenance is less as the engine is fuel injected and air cooled. Will update this as the bike ages!

8.Handling : The bike feels very agile, but then I was riding a Phantom before so cant really compare. It has a very small turning radius. But smaller 12 inch scooter wheels means it cant soak up the bumps like my Phantom. Bro parotae thinks that this is normal scooter behavior and asked me to adjust the dual rear shocks to their lowest position when I go for my first service. Will update once I do this.

9.top speed : 110 I am told but never done it.

I bought this as my commute to work bike (2 km either way) as I wanted a convenient twist and go machine to ride to work in the heavy traffic. So the mileage on my Like 200i is still rather low as I am not a heavy user. So far I am quite pleased with the looks ( my bike gets stares from other riders and drivers whenever I stop at a traffic light). The acceleration is decent in its category and it is really a fun scooter to ride on a daily basis. It is not a very powerful bike, but then if I wanted power I would rather go in for a motorcycle and not a scooter.I will report on the performance and maintenance as I finish my first 3 services. I have ridden it a few times in light to moderate rain and it seems to feel quite stable with its disc brakes.

My weekend bike is my trusted old Phantom (8 years old and still good).

Now bike COE decrease. Hopefully, will have more people riding, and riding scooters at that!!

I bought a set of Xenon White headlights and plannig to install them this saturday, I hope removing the front pannel will be easy, any tips Parotae?

Check out the online workshop manual.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/34475621/Kymco-Downtown-300i-ABS-EN

Go to page 31 of 274.

It's a bit more technical then on the manual but once you get the hang of it, 2nd time is easy.

After all the necessary screws have been removed, this is how i do it.

There's a big hole in the center between the headlamps. Hold the front fairing using 2 fingers in the hole and firmly pull it towards you paying attention to parts that come loose and work from there.

once the corner nearer to handle comes off, the rest will come off easily. You may need another person as it is quite challenging to remove the headlights connector as it require to unlock the connector and separate them with one hand while the other hand holds the heavy faring ha ha but it can be done.

Rust around fuel pump screws mounting area.

Actually, all this rust is inevitable, it exists even on new cars not to mention bikes. If not how to sell more vehicles :p

Nothing last forever.

I'm deciding over the SYM fighter 150 and the Kymco Super 8 125 as my daily mode of transport to work. I'm deciding to get a pre-owned bike probably 3-4 years old.

I've only rented scooters before but never owned them. I tried doing some research in this forum but i can't find much on the Super 8 125; though the consensus is that Kymco is generally more sought after?

Couple of questions though -

1) Do i need to go back to the agent to do my servicing?

2) Parts-wise, does the agent only hold them?

3) As i travel a fair bit on the expressways, can either bike maintain at least 85-90km/h cruising without straining the engine?

4) Which would you choose as your daily transport; budget aside?

Thanks for the help!

No experience on Sym scooter, you have to head on over to the sym thread if you haven't already done so for answer.

If not under warranty, going back to agent is not necessary but then again it's a preference. There is the question also on whether the bike shop is familiar with the model of your scooter?

For Kymco scooter, major parts like belt and variator may have to go to agent at ubi as they stock parts for kymco.

As for sym, those famous spare parts shop like FJT or beside FJT at rowell road do carry some common sym parts i suppose like air filter, oil filter, brake pads and maybe more.

Not just Kymco or Sym scooter, any bikes you buy should go for an initial service if you don't know or even the owner don't know when is the last service.

For scooter and i must stress, internal like belts and rollers and variator all need periodic maintenance because unlike chain and sprockets, you can't see the belt, roller and variator condition. Unless the previous owner knows, you don't.

Fighter look very fierce and super 8 looks promising. Either way, do your homework :)

Not bad liao lorh.

Considering that it's only 1years old, still can sell for this much. The dealer probably took in at a lower price though.

I hope to see more new Kymco rides on the road. Now, it's still the "older, but super reliable" Grand Dink 150 that's more commonly seen.

SYM still has the bigger Taiwanese scooter market share. But new Kymco's though it looks nice, seem to have too much of problems surfacing already.

The G.Dink 300i is pretty daunting IMO, since after only 3 days since the owner took over it brand new, the engine's giving the owner problems. Haha.

Super irritating to have to keep on sending the scooter back to the workshop to service (for that poor owner). =(

Tried sitting on a Suzuki Burgman K7 model yesterday. The scooter looks big but when I sat on it I was like huh seems like 150 cc scooter, low and slim. So I got off and look at the badge to see of its another model. Yup Burgman 400. I was like what, so small. At least can stretch leg and back rest,I thought to myself. After move here and there on the seat to see of its better than the downtown seat that I don't like, turns out the Burgman seat is worst than downtown. The Burgman back rest is higher and bigger but suffer the same as downtown. Cannot rest fully unless lean back more but that makes reaching the handle a bit further. The seat is also very narrow, lesser support on the thighs fell less secure IMO Downtown is big but keeps rubbing my thigh when long ride with vibration. After comparison, downtown have a better seat in my opinion. One thing I envy about Burgman is the handbrake function, it's bloody useful. So many times I need to release my hands to adjust some stuff and slight slope or iregular road make t difficult. So after this, I will learn to appreciate DT seat. The better seat I tried is still the SYM GT200 seat yet.
