Darn high pressure on the extended windshield, think it'll be a better idea to revert back to the original one for touring.

Hi mctan,

I know about the high pressure on the upper part of the screen where the bend is... I ever use skidmarx it is a high and nice screen, but I had a problem with it after a year or so, there are plenty of tiny bubbles inside the screen I discarded it for safety reason... I ever did modified it by cutting and openning on the top just before the bend it reduces the wind pressure on the screen most of buggers have seen it...

Now I'm using Givi screen it is neither high or low as the OEM screen just nice I need the wind on my helmet to cool my head. Few of us are using givi screens. If you are so,so worried about the screen height -get givi.(from chaplee $180.try to bargain to get lesser chances, -$20)

As for the Skidmarx doing around 160km/h it should not be a problem, just beware that it graces against the top part of the head cowling where the screen and cowling ends(both side of the corner) during those rides.

I ever ride top speed with skidmarx it still holds on pretty well...but you know it is not advisable to prolong at that speed if you are using those plastic screws. replacing it to the stainless steal is a good idea!!

Using it for touring should not be a problem no need to revert back to the OEM screen as it defeat the purpose of buying the skidmarx in first the place!!!

And Why you Buy It...??? "You should know the reason"!.

You're not going to ride 200Km/h all the way are you???

....JUST RIDE WITH CONFIDENCE...!

Do you guys find re-starting the bike after stopping at the R&Rs 'un-usual' as compared to normal operating?

I need to blow the throttle a bit to get the bike started, whereas in spore..I just press the start button will do.

Why huh?

I was advised to switch to semi-syn engine oil next time before going for long distance trips. Is it true?

Bro Casper,

Why huh!...???

Your engine is very hot after a long distance ride -any petrol vapours inside the combustion chambers have dried so you need to "rev it" abit to start. When you start the first few rounds of air/fuel mixture is not enough to start as hot chamber vapourize the mixture once it enters or enough to ignite to create that bang!!!

You know 'WHY' some riders "REV" their bike before removing the ignition key...

You try this after a long ride..!

A very low chances->Check whether your air filter or the *fuel filter of any cloggings.

*just below the fuel tank after the fuel tap..."translucent plastic canister" with fuel hose attached on both sides.

I see..Thks.

So does that mean that it has nothing to do wif the engine oil?

Heard they suggest semi-syn oil for touring and advised against using full-syn. Wonder how true it is.

Hi mctan,

When was the last time you flush your brake fluid system...Check your mileage~ if your mileage is very high, I would recommend you to replace pump cups and seals of the brake caliper and brake (foot)lever.

1st- try to flush your rear brake fluid- replace with new brake fluid. if there is an improvement then OK. If not replace all the rubbers as above.

Once serviced, "it should be problem free for another few years."

Silverghost...o_O

Hi SG,

I flushed the brake fluid while changing of brake hose, I think it was 1 to 2 months ago.

I had called HL up, they said I have to book a timeslot for servicing and it will be 2 weeks from now. :sian:

Is there any other bikeshop can do it?

Hi SG, I agree with what you had said. except the thiny bubble inside the windshield, I think it was caused by some chemical washing or cleaning, not from high pressure. Just my 5cents

Skidmarx is still all right for me, cause touring speed at 140- 160 is just nice for me with pillion.

I have another windshield from eagle, same height and width as skidmarx, except it is straight and doesn't have the bending part as what Custom's has.

I would say it is better in term of quality and better for high speeding, except it is abit too dark.......... :sian:

Oh yes! DEFINITELY!!!

Rather than worrying when the extended windshield will give way...I'll rather sacrifice the 'outlook'.

:cheer:  :cheeky:

Why the question, mate?

The windshield won't give way, but the rubber screws will give way. That is the design.

Actually i asked bec to get that stability at >180km/h, u'd sacrifice alot of comfort as u'd left exposed to the full windblast at those speeds. Another qn is how often will u reach those speeds and maintain them for how long??

Its like one prob do at most 20% at those speeds, so u're sacrificing min 80% of ur confort for that. I tried once a Kulai with a stock shield n it felt ok for a 30-40min journey. But for an 8hr ride, added comfort which equates to less rider fatigue is my untimate choice.

Anyway i'd always like to know how other view the same things but in a different light.

So back to topic, when the next trip?

How about a short ride to Kulai for makan on 290406?? Takers?

Hi mctan,

The tiny bubbles are inbetween the screen and it got nothing to do with the effect of washing or shampooing ~ if that so it would have stain or defaced the surface of the screen - to my knowledge this bubbles only have happen during those moulding/process. After in the sun for long time this bubbles expand and it becomes worse...you can still see it on those old bikes with faring but as for the new bikes you don't see it anymore.

As for now- the latest processing using ~vaccum technology~ eleminates this bubbles.

'Yes' nothing got to do with high pressure on the screen too.

Hi mctan,

My advise~ stick to (HL)yamaha schedule, 2 weeks is very fast- let them do it- if still have the same problem always can go to them(comes with 2wks warranty-"I think" check with custom who is their regular) they're more experienced with diversion(TP bikes).

I would not recommend any other shops, unless they are Yamaha specialist.

Hi casper4XXX,

Long time no hear from you or see you....

A full-syn is a full protection.

A semi-syn is a semi protection (understand)

For long distance rides you going to stress more on the engine and make it work harder, you need to transfer heat very fast only a full syn is capable of doing it.

Our bike is a air & oil cooled. I recommend to stick to the same oil - don't change inbetween full or semi or brands, another reminder do not add any additives... it defeats the purpose of using the synthetic oil on the first place. Whenever change oil, change the oil filter together...

People only add additive when they reach about 4000km to 4500km after oil changed.

You be your own judge because you know your bike well and how you use/ride it.

Went to HL this morning for inspection (without service) of my rear brake. The technician recommend me to change my piston seal first. I had checked out some rear brake spare parts price.

1. Original yamaha rear brake pads $70 per pair.

2. Rear brake callibre repair kit $20 (rubber O-ring seal for the pistons)

3. Rear brake rotor - $150.

Service at HL = spare part cost+ labour cost + GST

Hope it helps.

Bought a bottle of brake fluid.

Motul dot 5.1 Brake fluid - $9 (@ motorworld).
