Bro,

That time i also found out that my main stand had some cracks at the joint part /-\ . Actually for the past one month i felt my bike very heavy to lift up on main stand. I also duno wat happen as it I suddenly feel that my bike very heavy & i need more strength than before.

What causes the main stand to crack huh?

same like me ... last few days ago ...i also found my bike getting heavy then B4 to put on Main stand ... then alas ...the day B4 ... when i put down my bike and ......... :giddy:

now temp i got to put on side stand also first ....

Reasons might be due to : 1) our Current Bike is really heavy .

2) The main stand might be due to wear and tear .

(might be due the weather)

some don't have this problem yet ,even for our pioneers around ...

The HKL mechanic told me A lot of diversion riders seems to have this problem also ....

well ..... still got to get fix but on a later date ...hoping welding might be a better option :cheeky:

Another reason is when put down the bike from mainstand, some rider like to sit on the bike and "rock" the bike down. Imagine the bike weight about 220kg + rider's weight, the poor mainstand has to withstand nearly 300kg or more of weight.

Another one is (not common), when the bike is on mainstand, rider or mechanic or someone push/pull the bike with the mainstand on. This will add a twisting force on the mainstand, this might cause the joint to give way.

If the welder has a good skill, the alignment will not be affected. At the same time, you can ask the welder to reinforce the joint by add a piece of flat bar across.

If the repair cost is about $20, no harm give it a try.

But if the mainstand is beyond repair, then replace anew one.

HKL mechanic or HL mechanic?

Never realise that a diversion have so much problems.....:giddy:

Do u mind posting a pic on the crack areas,i wanna see where the crucial part is.Thanx.

Hi BA,

There is no bike in this world will not give problem at all.

Due to ageing, wear and tear, especially when the bike is getting old. Problem will araise.

I would say, diversion is one of the few bike which is less problematic.

Mainstand fixes are typically not difficult and mine costs $10 inc welding 2 extra reinforcing metal bars. After that it was almost as good as new again.

Haha... mine broken liao!

At first cracked than now broken..

Just now went to bike shop and ask them to weld but the mechanics told me sure cant tahan wan, however I am stubborn & insisted them to weld first "Trying my luck oni lah"

After the weld, wait for sometimes than try on the main stand several times.. than try to twist & turn the handle, down again and up again for about 3 or 4 times. After that heard some weird-weird sound, when I turn my handle again, the cracking sound getting louder.. I than push my baby elephant down and realised my main stand broken...

Will post some pics soon for you guys to see...

Where can we get the best price for our main stand?

Meanwhile, have to use side stand first!

Freaking weird man,how come suddenly divvy main stand starts to break almost at the same time...

> yeah,so far there's no problem on the engine and other critical parts.Maybe you are right,it's an old bike and lots of attention needed at the "small" problems.

Hi BA,

How can the bike fall over you..? When you mount out from your bike, you already put down the side stand, after that ~ then only you pull/put the bike on the main stand...

Most probable cause would be-when you put your bike on the main stand are you doing it properly.

During the jack up and kick down the stand it's a One time go (or some I've seen struggling halfway muscle verses bike weight limboing = backache is the answer)

During the jacking of the bike putting it on main stand a twisting on an uneven ground are some causes. Centre stand should be done on a level ground or otherwise make use of the side stand.

It's not the diversion have so much problem this is under 'wear and tear'. Have you check your center stand lately..? The rust is the culprit. If you don't like the center-stand or afraid of it -remove it.

Now I temporary riding without the center stand got money buy 1 or weld the old one with a reinforcement bar-you have an option.

Check with SW asking for $40/- welding and added reinforcement rod.

Yes, it can be welded with a reinforcement added on it. If the reinforcement and welding has done a proper job, it can stronger than new piece.

If the welder weld the broken part without reinforcement added on it. Please either change new piece or find another shop to do it.

Btw, this kind of welding job, please find a proper mechinery shop to do it. Most of the bike shop cannot make it, although they claim that they can do it.

Bike shop is sepcialise in bike service, not welding.

You can try Eunos Industrial part, Defu lane etc, there are plenty of mechinery shops around.

During lifting bike onto mainstand and the U-joint part almost give way. Chances are

1. If you are lucky, Both legs get the bike up when you lift up the bike.

2. If you are not lucky enough, the mainstand's left leg nearer to rider which link to the footlever able get the bike up, but the mainstand's right leg does not has the pulling force from left side due to the joint gives way. The right leg can't get the bike up, but left side up.... this is where the show starts. The bike will fall to the right (away from rider). Rider will be safe, but not bike...

Uncle Custom,

You were lucky that the bike falled towards you and you managed to Tahan and lifted the bike up again.

But if the bike fall away from rider, he has no chance to tahan/dong/prevent the bike from falling.

BA

I ask from HKL and bukit Merah ......

See the parts of the /-\ Centre part , it breaks on the curve part .....

Hi Vtec666,

Yours can be weld as the corrosion is not as bad as seen on the picture. After welding add a reinforcement rod between the legs.

Can save money instead of getting a new center-stand.

Remember it's better to remove the stand to weld so a proper weld can be done.
