for meter, i saw on a U.S cbr250 forum... but never seen it in person for a cbr400 meter... would like to see both meter restriction and carb restriction myself if possible....

anyway, i need to install a new bulb for my meter. i think 1 of them fused. i dunno how to open and install. so was thinking of getting someone who remove the meter resistor to show me at the same time... :cheeky:

cut away the switch box? i thought it's a small resistor (based on the pics from the U.S forum for cbr250)....

will the removal of the switch box cause any harm to the electrical system of the bike? hmm... when u free? show it to me can? ha~~ i wanna learn, then can help my friend. :bouncefire:

Ops...I was also shocked when they say mine speedo needle was at 6 oclock. I dont think I am so calm to use one hand at handle bar and one hand take picture at that kind of speed. My pillion also busy grabbing to me, and no extra hand to take out HP to take pic. Haha...Unless my rear wheel is on stand and I am doing dynojet.

Thats the neutral light indeed. I took that pic to illustrate where is the nippon and km/h word. I only ride 5-10km/h after the nippon word. Never trottle anymore when needle abt 11-12k rpm.

I know how to open the meter to change bulbs, in fact I just changed the 5 X 12V 1.2W bulbs to 5 X 12V 3W bulbs but the meter still looks very dim. The original meter numbering color is blue color for NC23. I missed the bright red color in my NC29 last time.

Take away the sai tao, then remove the fuse box connector (becos the fuse box is attached to saitao), then remove 6 screws from behind the meter clustor. 2 for speedo, 2 for rpm meter, 2 for temp gauge. Then u can take out the 3 meter separately and plug out the bulb connector behind to change the bulb. 2 bulb for speedo, 2 bulb for rpm meter, 1 bulb for temp guage. Then put back everything. Make sure u buy the correct bulb then u strip, or else waste effort. The bulb connection is T5. Its similar to T10, but thinner.

you mentioned abt the bulb connection... T10 and T5. If i'm just changing the bulbs inside, no need to bother abt theT10 or T5 right?

i'm riding a NC29. Whats the bulb size that i should buy? i hvaen't got a sample to show to the store cos i haven't tried opening it out and take out the spoilt bulb... =p

or wait.... the bulb connection u mention refers to the size of the bulb itself right..? oops...

Most meter light are T5 and T10. Cars mostly T10. Bikes mostly T5. For NC23 is 5 T5 bulbs. For fireblade I guess should be the same.

U need to get T5 bulbs for the speedo. The connection type determine which bulb u use.

My NC23 pole light bulb also known as parking light just below the headlight, the small bulb is also T5 bulb. BUt I dont think R model or L model fireblade have that pole light at the headlight. Usually the left side headlight switch have 3 part. One is off, 2nd is P, 3rd is H. P means parking light, and H means headlight.

BUt most of the NC23 and NC29 bike have a common problem of the high beam switch not able to function at low beam and only able to function as high beam after a few presses. Becos the inside is made of a soft metal and deforms easily and the connection doesnt works anymore. So many bike shop mechanics will short the pole light Vcc wire to Headlight VCc wire, so that whenever u switch to P, both pole light and headlight will light up. If u leave it without the modification, the P will be normal parking light, and H will not have any light at low beam, u need to on the High beam then u will have headlight. Thats why my H now is high beam. The high/low beam switch as usual spoilt like my R model last time. WHen going for inspection, I am going to do it the mechanic's way so that the inspection can pass or else travel with high beam, duno will fail inspection or not.

which fuse are u refering to?

Those fuse inside your fuse box lo.

the fuse box is at the left side of the fairing near to the left side of the headlight. Inside got 4 or 5 fuse. Either one blew off means diff problem.

When my bike stuck in 5k RPM and gets jerky if i insist on throttle up, its one of the 10M fuse tat blew. Headlight, speedometer light and your temp needle will stop functioning.

ehh....

i think the pic is just only there to illustrate the nippon sekkei thing, and the km/hr thing lah.... right?

i dun think it's possible to reach 6 o'clock~...

also... the green neutral light is on leh...

furthermore... xiaogary bro here already said he close throttle upon reaching 210km/hr.... if needle is really at that position, he'll be travelling at around 260km/hr... (since 200km/hr is in 3pm position..)

me_no_money:

dude, it'll be easier if u go for full maintenence 1st, that is, EO, plugs, air filter, oil filter, carb tuning, etc... cause u'll never know if it might be due to air filter dirty or carb out of sync, that's causing the problem. if u've not done carb servicing, then most likely it's due to that...

L model no powercut... unless ya bike buang b4, and the prev owner buy 2nd hand N/R model meter and install... then u have to remove the resistor. (if i'm not wrong.. don't take my word for it...) =p

gwon_boa:

lol what u expect man... sure wet one lah~ i don't know abt urs.. but i believe everyone's sure wet/damp a bit. can't help it one... only recourse is to use ziplock bags and put ya stuff inside loh~

oh ya... i also want to know how to remove the powercut thiing... just for knowledge. any riders here removed it themself? care to share, with pics? :thumb:

i believe i haf change my EO n plugs on e 1st day. nid to go back n check again liao.

One day we go 2nd link u lend us ur ride la, we all test see if we can find any difference.

:cheeky:

Why not u come and find me, I help u see see look look, see whether ur carb synchronised or not. If not synchronised and idling sound strange, then at least u go for tuning is not wasted even if it doesnt solve the jerking problem at high speed. Tuning is $80.

EO and plugs since u said changed already, then leave it lo, wait and tahan until 6k kilometer is up then change again. Check engine oil level, straighten remember then dip the stick in without turning in. Spark plugs not firing in sequence may also be due to tuning. The worst case scenerio I m scare of is damaged CDI, which seldom happen in cbr400, but very common in gsx400.

By the way, my R model last time puke a lot of black carbon high speed and bike also jerk a bit as it puke the dirt out. BUt after going a few times to clear carbon to kulai and malacca trip 160km/h all the way, bike is ok le, no more jerks inside all cleared le, especially at low speed open and close trottle half clutch. Sometimes its due to carbon built up and not smooth inside. Clear already can breath better.

Cannot be, your friend's should be R model. He faked u. haha...check his log card.

:cheeky:

NC29 L model is the one which came out after NC23 hurricane cbr400rrK. Its different engine. The air filter box is not the same. Carbs are different. Many things different.

I know Hurricane all are without restriction. L model according to many ex owner, are without the power restriction also. Only later version like N and R model NC29 are with restriction.

The only reason I can think of that the L model have restriction is because the ex-owner buang jialat jialat and the repair shop replaced the parts with R or N model fireblade parts bcos some of the parts can be used.

Even CBR250RRand CBR600RR parts and hurricane and fireblade parts have many parts number similar if u see the part list book. I was amazed also when I was shopping for the parts to rebuild the hurricane. The parts distributors gave me parts from CBR250RR, CBR400RRR, CBR400RRL, CBR400RRN...etc.

Even the kata foot protection panel I bought which cost $15 each side was from CBR600RR.

My fuel pump previously was from a bigger bike also same as NC23-mitishibishi brand, but I replaced it with the original NC23 fuel pump. Many shop tell me cannot get parts for Hurricane NC23 but lucky one shop still have source for a brand new one and I got it. Old bikes are like that, parts very difficult to find, so sometime the shops just replaced with similar parts from other models and the owners most of the time blur blur thought its original parts that were replaced.

Hurricane parts number come with KY2 part number while fireblade come with MV2. So next time take note of the Honda sticker on the original parts.
