erm... sorry i beg to differ. wat u have said for the choke is true. n. i know where it is n wat its for. However, if the bike idling is precision set, u don have to pull the choke lever even when its cold n the idling will be at 14k when hot. My bike encounter this problem, went to bike shop get the bike service n everything is good. cold start~0.8k~1k when hot~13.5k

Exactly so what you are doing is laboring the engine by letting it struggle at .9-1k when cold rather than using the choke to warm the engine up correctly. Congratulations you have figure out the best way to cause severe wear and tear to your engine internals by lugging the engine at low speed.

You should pull the choke on so that the bike warms up at 2.5-3k rpm to get the oil circulating and not labor the engine when cold. After around 30 seconds you can push the choke back in and the bike will idle CORRECTLY at its normal idle rate of around 1.3-1.4k

Bro, that is one very good way to cold start + warm up the bike... But is this a common practice in the "racing world"? As you have mentioned before, you do engage in racing activities back in Australia. By the way, have we met before at Eunos industrial park? :cheer:

Yeh could have met over at Eunos, I get my bike serviced over there. My race bikes have the choke removed. I warm them up by just holding the throttle open a little to gain the same effect as using the choke normally achieves.

My TA200 manual states the regular usage of Choke damages the engine, and recommends not to use Choke as it damages piston rings. I have so far not used the Choke and my previous owner of the bike also said he never used the choke. Let me confirm about this in the CBR400 manual.

Cheers,

batli

yes "prolonged" usage of the choke can cause the engine to run incorrectly. ie if you leave the choke fully open all the time or, leave it open while riding, leave it open when the bike is already warm causing it to rev too high at idle etc.

Correct usage of a choke will never damage an engine, that is rubbish.

Dude, this is straight from the horses mouth (Honda), Who claim extended usage of the choke may impair piston and the cylinder wall lubrication and damage the engine.

Yes that says EXACTLY what I said thank you for supporting me.

Read what you posted. The procedure for cold starting. Number 1 "PULL THE CHOKE ON".

Seriously, read what you posted and think about it this time, you use the choke to cold start the bike, that is exactly what your manual from Honda recommends. You DO NOT leave the choke on for an entire ride or extended period of time as it will cause the bike to not run right. Which is exactly right and exactly what I said. You only want to have the choke on for 30-60 seconds to warm the engine up a bit, get the oil moving around and then turn it off and the bike will idle around the normal range of 1.3-1.4k. This avoids laboring a cold engine at very low RPM which DOES cause excessive engine wear.
