Back to the hotel room after sending our wishes on the lantern up to the big man in the sky... Zzzz time

The night view was OK. It was rather windy that night.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/DeusXMachina/TW08/DSC00283-1.jpg

So the next morning, awoke to a this sight outside the balcony...

Winds by then were blowing very strongly. Even stronger than the recent late 2009 April strong winds recorded in Singapore. You could walk out into the open and be literally blown back a few steps.

On the TV...

Well, with the Typhoon approaching, the original plan to go clockwise around TW starting with the East Coast just went down the toilet... flushed. But typhoons generally come hard and fast, and go fast too. Sort of like a one-night stand. So we can go counter-clockwise instead... go west then come back to the east later. (or what was left of it. )

Next stop out of Keelung was Hsinchu. Just some street sights. It was raining and windy, though not as hard as the East Coast. But eventually the effects of the Typhoon would still be felt here.

Some pics of Taichung. The typhoon hit quite hard that night. Winds over 100kph for sure. So nothing to do that day but take cover in the hotel...

I saw a girl trying to mount a scooter get blown over. When she stood up, she was blown backwards by the wind and fell on her ass. An older man tried to help her up and they got blown against a parked car together. LOL... After 3 tries and still falling flat on their asses, they gave up and took cover. No pics of that... I was in the hotel and couldn't take pics through the water stained windows. Too bad.

This is the only shot I managed to take outside before the hotel staff literally came out and dragged me into the hotel, fearing for my safety.

They were prob thinking, "Stupid tourist... dunno the danger of typhoon...."

Blurry shots as I couldn't hold the damned camera still.... too windy... See the angle on those trees.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/DeusXMachina/TW08/DSC00505.jpg

Hotel taping up the windows. Winds were so strong it could flex and crack/break unbraced glass panes.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/DeusXMachina/TW08/DSC00503.jpg

Scooters blowned over. This was in the hotel carpark. I even saw a scooter parked along the main road being blowned over, then dragged by the wind off the road into a ditch. whoa... LOL.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/DeusXMachina/TW08/CIMG1432.jpg

TW hotel staff were kind enough to let dogs take shelter within the hotel's lobby outside. Singaporeans would prob shoo them away, oblivious to their well being...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/DeusXMachina/TW08/CIMG1436.jpg

Typhoon status updates in the lobby.

Daybreak. Winds had died down somewhat.

The dogs seem to have survived. Thanks to the hotel staff. :D

And on to Sun-Moon lake in Nantou County... and some temple there.

Quaint little town with a small marina and a nice lake. But it was a bit obscured by the stormy weather.
