Do the riding centre's instructors have a say on TP?(instructors please come in!)

Hey all, I encountered a little issue today while I was doing some practice for my upcoming 2A tp next week on the circuit.

I finished my practice without issue but I was damn urgent and needed to pee badly so I took a shortcut to the bike parking lot through the no entry side(after checking clear of course) instead of making the big round to enter from the correct side(those of you who take in Ubi probably know what I mean). Kenna F upside down by this moody instructor(Won't say who unless you all really wanna know), probably due to the hot weather. I didn't really think it's that serious since it's in a circuit but I was at fault after all, so I don't mind getting F.

The problem is after returning the tag he was holding my booklet and he seemed to be taking down my particulars from my booklet and also asked me when's my TP date. Stupidly I told him, but I'm sure he probably has other ways of finding out.

In any case, I'm wondering, for those of you especially who are driving centre instructors, do the instructors have the power to influence the TP's decision on my test date? Will I still be given an impartial test or am I basically just taking for the experience?

I was really hoping for a fair test but I don't think he was taking down my name and IC for nothing. I'm really hoping that such petty things aren't done by instructors but I'm sure every system has it's loopholes.

Can anyone provide any info. on whether this is possible? Or am I just being paranoid? Driving instructors esp, have you heard of such a thing occuring before?

i don't know if this will help, but i have had a similar exp when i was taking my pracs at ssdc.

i was rushing for a test when i was doing my class 2 prac 3. it was my last prac, after passing the first 2 in 2 lessons. i failed my 3rd prac, can't rem for wat reason(think it was for striking a cone or something). i asked to have my booklet back as i knew i failed and i had to rush for my test. (and yes i noe i was dumb to book my lesson on the same day as my test)

subsequently my name and IC was written in a book, in red somemore... needless to say i failed my next 3/4 prac 3... i didn't have a immediately failure in the next few lessons. i was given demerits based on things like, failure to check blind spot, failure to check right and failure to check kinda stuff... i still keep the result slips... haha...

so i was pretty negative when i was abt to take my TP, knwing the same could happen to me as i take my TP. guess wat... i passed...

so the thing is... dun offend the instructors if u dun want to come for more lessons. at least that was wat i think has happened to me... but i had a very gd time at SSDC, that was the ONLY sour note in a 3 year "relationship" with the school...

i dun think the instructor/s will that unprofessional to do that to anyone. juz think that maybe u shld learn not to do what ever u did again... because ultimately u did something wrong, not the other way round. learn from it.

in hindsight, i got more then enough practice in the extra pracs, i was already so confident before my TP. so... lets not make the same mistake again... gd luck to ur TP. and dun worry too much!!!

Hey tim I just started 2A at Ubi too by failing prac 1. Hope to see you around.

Anyway why didn't you just park by the side near the waiting area? Nearer to toilet, and I think they won't mind, after all they often ask us to park there when going for break.

I don't think they have any influence over TP though. This is Singapore after all. If you've booked your test you should be safe. Unless you're still doing practicals, I suppose they will be inclined to fail you.

After 2B prac 5 assessment which I did fine I was told to revise a few rounds before reporting back at a certain time. But I didn't hear him say the reporting time so I thought just report back at 2220 which is the official end time. So he had to wait for me for over 20 minutes and it was the last lesson of the day. He wasn't pleased at all. Needless to say I failed that lesson.

Oh cos I had already finished and was heading to put back the bike already. I'm in a habit of controlling my pee during revision circuit as I don't normally like my lesson to be interrupted.

Taking breaks is different of course, since the class goes for a break together.

I'm already done with my lessons so I'm not too concerned with them failing me on that. And I really doubt they will remember me for Class 2 next year. I'm concerned because my test is next week and I'm really hoping he doesn't take a walk upstairs to the TP branch and say, "Eh, this idiot machiam think he own the circuit. Next wk look out for him."

It seems logical to me that after being a driving instructor for some years you make some connections with the TP here and there and I don't think it'd be a big favour to ask.

Yup thanks Nick, really trying to hope for the best and not thinking about it too much. Just going to give it my best shot and in the worst case scenario I'll come again. Hopefully that instructor will indeed not be so unprofessional.

It's just kind of a bummer to wait 1 and a 1/2 months for the TP only to have some silly thing like this screw it up. If I screw up I really want to do so on my own merit, if you know what I mean.

Even so it is really very unlikely. Firstly he would have nothing to gain from failing you or asking to fail you. In fact I believe they have pass rate KPIs to hit; I have heard them talk about it before. Secondly, it would demand the unprofessionality of a lot of people: for motorcycle test there are many testers around. So not only the instructor must be unprofessional (which is unlikely to begin with), he must convince at least a few testers. If one tester only maybe for an immediate fail, which would be hard to fake.

Chill dude! All the best for your test and I hope to see you on your new bike soon.

yup... kraikk's arguement sounds good... dun worry... the testers are very harsh with 2Bs... but less with 2A and 2... so... dun worry... i have got my class 2 already... so dun worry too much... 2a and 2... no immediate failure means pass...

all the best for your tp.. sweet ride you are going to have..

dude, you should have parked your bike at the side and ran to the toilet instead..

Yea, I guess that would have been a better option. In future that's what I'll do, but what's done is done for the moment.

Instructors are paid to teach n instruct u guys how to control the 4W or 2W correctly, properly and safely.. Testers are paid to access u on how u control the 4W or 2W correctly, properly and safely. Both of them can say on a different job scope.. Nobody can have the influence on one another,, but however they do become so called good friends.. Testers definitely can't be bothered of wat u do during ur practicals.. They only concern about wat u gonna do during dat test period, so they won't b bothered to go influence instructor anything..

Naturally instructor CAN'T influence the testers.. Unless the instructor is the son of a particular tester perhaps...

But actually I think you can't really blame them. Normally after 90 mins of circuit under the hot sun you're damn sweaty already. They work the entire day sweating, unlike the Class 3 instructors who enjoy the benefit of an air conditioned car.

Definitely those short tempered by nature instructors will flare very easily.

Bro u can rest assured, 100% Instructors have no say over the TP test.

The test is conducted by Tester appointed by Traffic Police and not centre.

Both are different department and on different payroll.

Nevertheless the centre have a good relationship with the tester dept as they will have regular meeting to discuss issue on the test.

Also there is no reason why the instructor would want you to fail the test just because of this.He don't gain anything from it anyway.

Dont think too much la, to them seeing people pass is a common sight. No big deal.

Just ride slowly, don't perform stunt and don't get immediate failure, u will sure pass ur 2A one.

Does this mean when you have got your 2B/2A/2, that when it is urgent and you need to pung-si or shi-shi, this gives you the rights to run red-lights, go the worng way down one-way streets, take shortcuts across pedestrian crossings, and generally break traffic rules ?

You deserved the scolding :)

Yea I did, hence the last line of the part you quoted. Well in the end everything worked out fine, despite my paranoia.

But as a rider I'm sure you've done something similar before outside, circumstances not withstanding.
