So, if its a thief, then they deserve it? What if an inquisitive kid is admiring your bike & touches the IU accidentally. How would you feel then?

Did you mean you usually leave your cashcard in the IU & booby trapped it as protection?

Sounds like bait to me (i.e. with the intention to cause hurt)

Hmm...

Burglar climb over the fence, fell from the fence and broke his leg, can sue you for building the fence too high or not?

Don't know how the ERP unit looks like but if it's metal, sounds like the whole thing is covered up (cannot see whether there's a card or not). Now why would some boliao person want to open up the cover to see if there's a cashcard?

Hmm.... was wondering if the police were to use their Tasar Stun Guns and the victim got badly injured as a result, will the police be fully responsible and arrest himself?

Maybe you should have put a "WARNING! HIGH VOLTAGE" sticker on the cover of your IU so that you can indemnify yourself. At least you can tell the police that intruders and thieves would have been forewarned and they proceed (the theft) at their own risks.

now thats the kind of sticker we shd be taking seriously...:cheeky:

usually those who put that kind of sticker ppl will still f around with their bike but now is really the ppl have been warned...

if the police was chasing an offender and even after warnings the offender still continue to run, the police personnel who shot wont be charged in court. unless the police personnel shot some1 by accident, that will be a different story.

regarding the sticker, yes i think that might help.

another thing in my mind, is IU unit our property? or govt property that is 'loaned' to us? to me, this is quite impt to TS case..

Thanks for all the well wishes. A friend of mine has introduced a lawyer, so I will be going to have a talk to him tomorrow morning.

In addition, I have been told that I can pick up my passport, but I need to let the Investigating officer know if I am leaving Singapore.

Also to answer the problem of accidentally touching the IU and getting electrocuted, that is not possible. The reason is because I have made the cover such that you have to lift up the front part of the cover before the circuit will kick it. So for you to get shocked, 1) the alarm must be on, 2) you got to lift up the front cover which will give you access to cash card.

Personally, I had no intention to hurt the thief, all I wanted to do was to give the person a nasty shock. As for good Samaritans seeing that i forgot the cash card and is "helping me keep it first to return later", no possible also, cos unless you lift up the cover which is made of metal, there is no way you can see if there was a cash card in there or not.

Once again, thanks for all the support. I will let you guys know how it turns out tomorrow.

nice! nice! i like that trap. Hidden cashcard and only activates when the thief opens it to check it out. But if its a mild shock only, i think your cashcard will also be stolen when the thief recovers. Also he may choose to kick your bike down or cut your brake lines, fuel lines, control lines. Thats dangerous.

im interested to know too.. might consider doing this as well.. i had tons of cashcards stolen when i was a despatch rider.. and most of them are just topped up.. like 20 bucks each time.. no choice coz need to go in and out of erp all the time cannot just top up 5 or 10 dollars.. will be used up in probably just a day or two..

"Was helping to keep the card and return it later", seem like the thief have a better lawyer than you got.

Just wondering, if you cover the entire IU with a metal shield, would this not effect the radio performance when you pass under the gantry. Meaning the metal cover would weaken the radio signal between the IU and gantry.

Anyway all the best in your case

good mitigation i would say. Unless there is an intention to steal, a reasonable man would not be opening up all IU covers to see if there is any cashcard

keep all things P&C since you now have a lawyer. Update us on the results as i'm sure everyone of us is eager to know. Better still, made the media know about it too

You were released on bail, right? So you have the Bail/Bond sheet with you, right?

Can you tell me what you were arrested for? I'm very curious...

They were going to charge me with "voluntarily causing grievous hurt" initially, but now its going to be just "voluntarily causing hurt". Anyways, the lawyer is on the way to my office now, so I am not suppose to talk anymore about this.

Once everything is cleared up. I will let everyone know what the final resolution is.

As for the device, I got it fabricated for about $175. If anyone wants info on the contact, send me a PM

Voluntary Causing Hurt?

Well, buddy, before any successful conviction, there has to be mens rea & actus rea. Loosely translated from Latin, it means Criminal Intent & Criminal Act. In your case, both do not include Criminal elements. Even if they were to prosecute on the act by itself, the intent is absent. Meaning, there was no intent on your part to hurt anyone intentionally except to protect your property. I'd say that whatever instructions given by the investigator to prosecute you is wrong or will not lead to a successful conviction.

Tell me what the outcome from the meeting with your lawyer is. It'll be interesting to know if there is any variations.

the best is to remind yourself to take your cashcard.

what if he gets shocked, got agitated and kick your bike?

the damage will be worst than the value of your cashcard..

just my 2 cents..
