I'm very disappointed with the DL1000. I've had my bike for less than 3 months. It broke down thrice on me (bike just went DEAD). First time i brought it back to the shop, they said it was the battery and charged it up. 2nd time, they changed the battery for me. The third time (just this Mon) it died on the road, I was told to tow it back to Guan Hoe, who diagnosed that it was the stator coil and rectifier. They said they had to order the spare part in, which will take 3 weeks! In the meantime, I have NO RIDE. I am sorely disappointed and frustrated. All three times, the bike broke down while stopping at junctions and I was almost run over by oncoming traffic behind me. I had to take days off to tow it back to the bike shop, waste time finding out what's wrong and waiting for it to be serviced, and money/inconvenience taking public transport. I paid up for a brand new ride and this is nothing like I expected. The frustration is getting to me. The shop said they will try to get me a stand-in bike but it's been 2 days and still no word. Can I get compensation for my troubles? What is the shop's responsibility and obligation to consumers in cases like this, where a clearly defective bike was sold?

is it a new bike? which shop did u get it from? singapore got no lemon law unlike the states. so hard to pursue such claims. if it is a new bike, i'm guessing all this can be claimed under warranty. but for ur time wasted, no choice bah.

It's a new ride. I'll not reveal the name of the shop here, but to be fair to them, they did rustle up an old Kawa GTO for me in the meantime.

Juvefan,

If the bike is brand new, then I suppose it covers manufacturer defect, ain't it?

If you want to pursue further for all the inconvenience due to the bike problem , I guess you can try:-

* CASE

* Lawyer

* Sweet talk to the bike shop for some compensation

* Get a biker friend with good rapport with the bike shop and reason out something for you.

It's a brand new ride. To be fair, the shop covered all the towing charges, and also rustled up an old stand-in bike for me. Although it's a really old bike, it's still road-worthy and I'm rediscovering the simple joys of riding. Zipping around with a silly grin on my face was not something I did on the Strom. As they say, always look on the bright side of things.

thats the thing. Consumer protection in this cantry is pathetic.

its still very much a case of " let the consumer beware "...... :cry:

New bike should be covered under some warranty.

As for compensation, I would think its tough.

what is a lemon bike???????????

Its not about hard you can hit, its about how many times you can take a hit and remain standing

I dunno abt you guys. But if a brand new bike has a lot of issues, I won't bother going back to the shop I bought it from.

I'd go straight to the local agent and pressure them about it.

I still dont know what does a "lemon bike" mean .. please enlighten me? Sour bike? Bike full of vitamin C? :lol:

means pay alot of money for something not working, or along the lines.

Dun think it's the bike diam prob ba, more like manufacturing defect?

But how come use lemon to descibe it (sorry this is off-topic but curious to know)? I've heard problems abt the DL (years ago, Suzuki should have sorted out the problems by now?) but not as bad as died on the road .. more to do with it's gear box or something like that .. if I remember correctly.

Yah man!!! Now then I realise .. lemon is yellow, lime is green! Hahaha!! :lol:

So lemon bike doesnt really mean anything other than the bike is yellow ... yellow looks good on a VStrom.

The "lemon" reference to a vehicle that constantly breaks down simply came about because both leave a sour taste in the mouth.
