Hey guys...I need help!

Just gotten my phantom today. Rode it home this afternoon.

But just now I went to check at my bike, realised my right rear signal light is not working!

Before I take over this bike I already knew about this problem...the ex owner sent it for servicing, ask the mechanic to check and change light bulb...got receipt to prove.

Now the problem surface again...and it's a signal light! I don't dare to ride my bike now...because turning right is hazardous.

What could be the problem for this to be happening? The front light is working but the back is not...bulb is new.

I'm really new to such things.

Just now I tried to remove the signal light cover...but don't know how to.

Is there any specific technique to open the cover? or just pull the yellow part out?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry about that...read up on the manual and saw there is a screw located underneath.

Troubleshoot while bike is on? or adjust first then on and try?

Erm...will I get electrocuted if I play around with the connector while the bike is on? :cheeky:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I went to fiddle with the bulb...almost cannot put the bulb back!

Still not working.

use impact driver to remove the rounded screw... available at plan*t...

if that fails that leaves the hardcore solution of welding the screw to a T-wrench... :giddy:

My ERP IU unit on my phantom suddenly stopped working? I insert my cash card and there was nothing. No light or error message. My cash card definately fine since I can use it on my car.

Anyone have any idea for to fix this problem other then buy a new one?

Usually most prefer to connect their IUs either to the headlight (handlebar mount) or to the accessory sockets under the left chrome cover.

Trace the wire back to its source - might just need some electrical tape, soldering etc.

Don't get makaned by loanshark mototiams, DIY repair ftw :D

There is an erp IU repair shop along lavender street, between bendeemer road and serangoon road towards beach road direction... you should go to the shop with your phantom along with its IU...

if the IU is unrepairable, he can sell you new or old IU depending on what you prefer...

here is a map for your reference...

What I'd do is swap the bulbs and see if the other bulb works on the unlighted signal. That indicates a blown bulb, which is dirt cheap to replace compared to other parts.

If both bulbs don't work it indicates a wiring issue; inspect the connectors accordingly.

hi everyone. new phantom owner here.

got a few very noob questions about bike exterior maintainence ~.~

For the metal parts of the bike, can we use metal polisher like autosol? I saw some other post stating that getting a chrome polisher would be more appropiate, but are all the metallic parts of the bike chrome?

I want to polish my fork, handle bar and the exhaust pipe.

As for buffing , do we need additional equipments? or just with cloth can ?

Chrome polisher, you said it right, only for your chrome parts. Unless you have a one-off "Chrome Edition" which is so hard to maintain you get a heartache every time you ride :3

Note that the stock headlamp and 'chrome' covers are actually plastic so water actually does a very good job. What the chrome polisher does however is rapidly dissolve whatever crap is on the smooth shiny surface, so just leave it a couple minutes to dry, buff lightly with a cloth and mirror finish.

"Real" metallic chrome plating on a stock TA I believe are the exhaust system, speedo console, forks, Phantom tank logo, handlebars, sissy bar, & maybe the back suspension spring. Enough chrome to warrant purchase of a $4.50 chrome polisher bottle from Turtle Wax. And trust me on this one, you won't get bored being a good 'housewife' cleaning all the shiny parts :3

This product works really well on the plastic chrome covers too.. I've demoed on a Phantom that's never been cleaned for 6 years. Mirror shine in 30 seconds.

Next we go on to aluminum wheels - although manual says that water and mild detergent recommended, we have had great results using ammonia-based metal cleaner. Wipe on to instantly get the years of road grime off, buff everything to a greyish shine and rinse off.

Mr Metal cleaner also works on your aluminum crankcase covers and all other non-chromed surfaces. Others vouch by oven cleaners for your engine block, the best being those fancy German spray on, auto-acting types that cost like $30 per can.

Just make sure to keep the oven cleaner clear from your chrome and plastic. If in doubt always try on a small out of the way surface first.

There's a lot of other cosmetics you can learn from us including plastic detailing, chain cleaning, etc but most of the time a good shampoo and rinse should get your bike very happy already.

if a phantom cant go over the 120 km/h mark and its roaring..what might be the problem??

Roaring indicates your engine oil is shearing. The sound from the engine should be smooth and "wet". If you hear things like metal to metal contact when at low speed, run at light duty only and send for servicing ASAP.

If you really want to go 120+ I advise you to try swapping sprockets. There's no sense running this type of engine to 8-9000 RPM to go that fast because if you're observant with the power delivery, your peak torque comes in very early.

Your "power" comes in if you launch at first gear, 1000+ RPM and accelerate hard from there. Yes, you have enough torque to launch from that low, just pretend its a baby Harley :)

Once you know the powerband and know how to exploit peak torque in each gear, a sprocket change to allow efficient high speed cruise will not impede your in-town daily driving since your riding style compensates. The lower the RPM you run, the cooler the engine, the less EO changes you need, and yes, you won't have to buy expensive synthetic oils to speed this way.

The most easy way to go fast is of course get a TA150 (COE almost expiring, great for restoration project), which easily gives you the sort of roadrunner ™ performance up to 170kph.

If you're into aerodynamics, a good windshield can dramatically improve your cruise efficiency... provided you know how aero works. Otherwise a badly fitted w/s makes everything worse.
