What is the max penalty for driving a car without insurance coverage ?

My friend lend me a car to drive, and i got into accident with

railing.

 

Now the LTA call me, say i drive a car without insurance coverage,

and i told him i did not know he default on insurance premium ,

wat is the max penalty ?

 

Any similar case ?

You can have licence but you still need insurance cover to drive a car. For car insurance normally the policy would cover the vehicle rather than specific drivers (unlike motorcycles). However, in this case it seems the owner allowed the insurance to lapse.

Yes i have a valid license.

LTA just told me the car is running on the road without insurance,

and u r the driver, but i am not the owner.

 

He said car without insurance on the road is an offence,

can be fined & also license revoked.

 

Hmm, hopefully it's just a fine, as my friend lend me car,

who will ask about the validity of insurance.

The minimum is a suspension and fine. The onus is on you to prove that you had driven the car whilst under the impression that there is valid insurance coverage.

in the first place if you not injured,why not just take a cab away first,then call your friend to let him know,atless he can cover you as a driver.

If you can prove that you had no prior knowledge of this, it may help your chances. As lutein pointed out, suspension does not necessarily mean revoked if it is less than a year. In this case, you have a strong case of being misled by the car owner.

in e first place i dun understand y yr friend would wanna lend u his car if he has defaulted payment on his car insurance? i think he knows e law & penalty of driving a car w/o insurance. sadly, now e odds are against u cos u suay suay kena accident and LTA knows about it. is yr friend trying to sabo u?

Max penalty is fine. But if get into accident, 3rd party can choose to sue you to court. What is the max? depends on what you had commited.

This is not correct. You are liable for fine OR jail PLUS minimum 12 months suspension.

Min penalty 1k fine n 1 yr revoke licence of all classes.. No need fight.. It's yr reposibility as a driver to check if the veh u are driving has a valid INS. Owner will also kena fine. But driver will kena revoked no matter watever e excuses. Dun know is not an excuse. How I know?? I got into a similiar incident. Got lawyer n all. Useless. Judge say dunno is not an excuse. It's my reponsibiity as a driver to check. Period. All classes revoked 1 yr. After 1 yr u wan back yr lic, got to retake everything:(
