Hi all... any regular donor here?

 

Whole blood or apheresis also can...

 

Juz did my 10th donation today for platelets. Hrd that there's a shortage.. joping to find some ppl then we go donate together arnd end of Jan..

i just donated my first bag of blood about 3 weeks ago. they gave me a card and which stated next donation date 24th feb. if there a required interval b4 each blood donation?

 

by the way, what's the meaning of apheresis? and what's platelets?

 

and to everyone here, if you are suitable to be a blood doner, please be one. it does not hurt at all!

PS: run thru the screening qns, and u'll notice that not everyone can donate blood! Pls really help if u can... you nv know when and who will need it.

Platelets are part of what makes up your blood. It is responsible for wound management within your body. Platelets are the clotting agent in your blood. If u hv a low or no platelets count, when u bleed, the bleeding will either clot slowly or won't clot at all.

 

Apheresis is the process of extracting platelets at the hospital. It involves a machine which will draw out your blood and filter out the platelets. Then this filtered blood will be sent back into your blood stream. Usually it'll take abt 7 such cycles when u donate platelets. Anti-clotting agent is used to maintain an open channel into your bloodstream while the apheresis is on-going. And its common to feel cold when undergoing platelets extraction, cos the blood returning back to your body would hv lose its bodylike temperature by the time it gets back in. Kekeke... ;)

yeah! did apheresis 3 times... all three times my lips and teeth area feels damn cold.. remember to drink more water so that they can complete the cycle faster coz if ur blood have more water, easier to do centrifugal breaking of ur platelets...

and u muz be abv 18 to donate, if not muz get paret's consent form!

I'm not sure abt other hospitals, but if u're doing platelets donation at the General Hospital, u can request for a warm blanket while undergoing apheresis. It'll keep u warm while u're on the reclining couch. ;)

 

BTW, if u're doing a 1st-time platelet donation, u'll hv to undergo a full blood sample analysis on ur 1st visit. U will start donating platelets only ur 2nd visit back to get the result slip. The cool thing is: You get a full read-out of ur blood. Everything, from platelet count, white blood cell percentage, etc. Can keep the result slip for future reference. :D

 

If u're keen, do tell the nurse that u'll like to be on the call-up list of donors. In future if they hv a sudden need of ur blood type, u'll be on standby to help save a patient. Now wouldn't that be cool rite? Save lives, donate blood/platelet! :p

i tried to donate blood 2 wks back

but cos i was in india in dec and was taking anti-malarial pills..i can't donate..grr...

How often do you go for blood donation?

As for me is almost every 2 months i will go for donation.

So when will you be going for blood donation again may can go together.

May be next time you put it much early so others got chance to meet up and go together. :thumb:
