went to combine motors to fix my many mths bike start problem. got directed there by bikelab and saw the many gd reviews on the shop in SBF. and guess wat? my bike start problem solved! my idling now about 0.5 on the metre and the engine still goes on without dying. on my way back from the shop when i stop at the traffic light, the idling was low and many times i thought it would die off but it didn't. the shop washed my carb and tune it.

the motordiam also fixed the handling of my bike and my gixxer felt so different when i rode off. the handling was so much lighter and the bike was very agile. cornering was also very smooth! it really felt like riding off with a new bike!

i guess my bike was not in the best shape since i bought it! highly recommend combine motor!

So wat can we do wit the old Carb type?

First of all when you talking about HP(horsepower)What HP are you talking about? rear wheel HP? or engine HP?.The general perception is that if you put on a yoshi or "tong" or any hollow pipe will make your bike HP go up. Yes it is true but not completely true.Because when you hear the loud exhaust sound you think that "Wah.. My bike si peh powerful leh..." In order to increase the HP,you must tell yourself this "Can I handle the HP? Can my brakes handle the HP?Can my chain, tyre, bearings, frame etc.. handle this???"

During the carbies days those who race these normal road bikes uses YOSHIMURA full duplex stainless steel exhaust system,Vance n Hince POWERPAK(replaces the CDI,equivalent to present days POWER COMMANDER for EFI), High Compression pistons,Silicon low resistance suppressor cables,Timing advancer,Racing cams n conrods,dry-clutch,Internally polish(this one look like mirror)engines cylinders, Down-draft flat-slides CR-carburators with individual high flow air filters, High-speed bearings for all the engines internal organs.and many MORE...These are all tuned perfectly. If we could have some of this in GSXR400.The engine HP will definitely increase.

A simple way to increase rear wheel HP is to have the correct tyre pressure, valve adjustment, balanced carburator, properly adjusted n lubricated chain and a slim body :cheeky:  (hee.. hee.. no offence guys, just joking....)

my fren need help  ... where can he find second hand rectifier for G4? his rectifier produces smokes after engine start, thus suspect going to die soon. the cheaper the better as $$ is quite tight.

pm me.. thx

If battery is gd, but cannot crank start the engine. What could be the problem and how to solve?

First of all how do you know the batt. is good??Did you measure using a voltmeter?I suppose u didnt hear the zinc* sound like what ICEZ has pointed out when you start your bike? We don't jump into conclusion that the cdi is spoilt or rectifier is "khong".This is what I will do if I were you,I check:

1.Is my key in the ignition?? (A bit stupid but I have come across a guy who did

this across)

2.Did I turn on the ignition??

3.Is the gear engage?

4.Is one of the fuse blown??

5.Is my battery terminals properly tighten(Loose battery terminal may sometimes prevent the starter motor from turning but the lights n horns are working)

6.Take out the rider seat, turn ON the ignition keys,U should here a soft click sound somewhere there.(The click sound is coming from the starter motor relay).

7.If starter motor relay doesn't click, check the surounding wire for loose connection between the connector.

8.Check the wire connecting to the starter motor itself is not loose.

9.Your starter motor might be faulty.Check that your starter motor is not dirty inside n the carbon brushes are within its normal wear.(this u need to dismantle the starter motor.)

The above only applied when you didn't here a zinc* sound when u start the bike.

When u hear a zinc* sound the bike won't start ...... To be continued......

i went to bikelab first becos i read abt them doing bike shocks. i thot if they do servicing for sportsbike, they might be able to help me. actually i just want a 2nd opinion on that idling problem. a previous workshop told me it cost $400-$500 to service. all they did was to turn up my idling.

anyway, bikelab say they specialise more on shocks and fork stuff. they suspect the problem to be the carburetor is dirty and they dun have the equipment to clean it. so the guy directed me to combine motors to look for ah hock. it is at sin ming autocare 2nd floor.

start my bike from cold today and NO PROBLEMO!!!! WOHOOOO!!! the bike really feels alot different. i am excited becos i have not rode another gixxer to compare b4!

you can look up reviews of combine motor in the 'Why Pay More' section or juz do a search.

anyway, i sometimes kao peh kao bu abt my bike but i love it lah. heh heh...

wash the carb is $80. they are known to charge a little higher but the workmanship apparently is good.

btw, i recall u have a steel braided hose for the rear brake? how much did it cost you to fix just that hose?

I tot most ppl fix steel braided hose on the front brakes then the rear?/

It is suppose to be more responsive and will not cause braking to be "spongy"...

juz installing on the rear sounds.... hmmm....

Well, i think it cost arnd $60 to fix 1 piece, abt 160 for a full set of 3 lines.

i got the hoses on my front brakes liao. it is so good that i tend to rely on them more than the rear. my rear brakes feel spongy and since i just changed the rear brake pads, i thought having a better response would do justice to the new pads.

$60 per line is for HEL, goodridge or other brands?

errm... my personal opinion is yes. i recall i told GH to wash my carb and do a full service but kenna charge the $$ with the idling problem not change one bit. i still think it is a good shop to go to for the G4.

so unless my bike has some issues that only GH can help, i would try others. results are world of a diff dude.

Either Dynojet or Factory jet.

I recalled that GH charged abt $35 for my carb wash.

Watching him do it, I observed he's quite meticulous. (in terms of workmanship)

What I didn't like though was

1) Carb main jet seal had to be changed but what he didn't tell me

was that the main jet shaft was kind of bent and hence, even if u used

new seals, when u tightened it, the next time round when you take it

out, it is bound to be unusable again due to the bent shaft.

2) The bike was hard to start up after he "tuned" it.....

3) He missed out on the fuel tank screw after putting the tank back.....

I rode off and rode back to ask for the screw to be fixed on.

$35 is cheap.... but I ended up going back home and taking apart the bike,

replaced the shaft with good ones (thanks to tealeaf), set the fuel mixture screw

correctly and tada....

So I don't really understand why people say GH is good....

$35 for 1/2 day of his time and my time waiting there and

going back to do myself again..... I rather spend $80 doing it right in the first place.

IMO, there are better shops around.... :goodluck:

i think GH is ok lah. the uncle quite nice. just that i can't stay and see him do the stuff so i dunno what he had fixed and what he had not. partly also my G4 knowledge limited so i dunno what to expect after he serviced certain things or else i would have asked him.

still hope to see carb being washed. dunno how dirty was my carb. btw, today cold start also swee swee man! hahahaha...

anyone tried install a fuel gauge on the G4?

Posted

eh... fuel gauge?

cool, i asked 2 shops in queens way b4, all say they never do... hmmm....

if can do i also wan one but i doubt its easy to make

No more regrets.
