hihi...

if you can't kickstart you could try pushstart... at least you'll be able to get the bike to the shop, etc.

kickstart got method one... ask your mech or a friend to show you... its not just anyhow kick kick kick... then the bike starts (even though eventually it will probably start la... but not after all the passerbys are staring at you)

basically its something like push down the kickstarter to a certain point, then kick firmly. but its easier to understand if you see it la.

boring rider. with a boring bike.

too old to want to appear interesting anymore.

hehehe...i saw the mech do it and he explained to me also. it was interesting to see the technique...its like how you described it :-)

Good article there Simon.

Kick-starting a motorcycle requires some strength and finesse as described by the others here. Weird but once you get a hang of it, you'll appreciate that it's there.

Back in my 2B days when I switched from my NSR150 SP to a new electric-start operated bike, the latter had issues with some electric component inside. And everytime I attempted to start my bike, the battery would drain off until there was no more.

Worse still, that incident was before I even learnt proper push-starting. Even then, push-starting wasted one's strength too, go figure.

Learning to kickstart is a very fundamental skill. Don't leave home without it. Used to have lots of problem kickstarting my kr, 2 strokers are a pain in the ass to start when its cold and raining. But nothing the choke, closing the engine switch, 2 kicks, turning the engine switch on and a swift kick can't handle..

here is how to kick start an nsr250:

pump the kickstarter using ur hands.

cool.

You serious? I know that if I had tried this on my former NSR150 SP, it would have been hard.

Tried twice with my scooter when the battery went flat. Never got it to start during those two times. Anyone has the writeup for proper technique for auto scooters. I never had issues with kickstarter on the BBDC training bikes. Did not try push starting though. I thought that working only on manual bikes.

use your foot and gently push down on the kickstarter a few times. Make sure u push all the way down to gauge the full stroke of the kickstarter. Next, u notice the kickstarter will spring back to a position, use your foot and lift the footstarter to its max height. slowly push down until u feel resistance. Usually this is around 1/3 to 1/2 way down. take a deep breathe and stomp down hard on the kickstarter till u reach the bottom part of the stroke. the bike should start up after a few tries.

practice it so that you will be able to utilize this in emergencies. Or u can buy a 2b 2 stroke bike. Your kickstarting leg will be bigger then the other leg
