If you are going to use as a pure road bike, S4, I guess, should be better. XR has a nice pickup, but doesn't behave nice on the speeds over 100.

Anyway, my XR4 has fc 15km/l. Heard that some have up to 25.

2 liters of oil every 3000. (Less if you care for the bike)

10$ oil filter every other oil change

I guess you must be throttling like hell at traffice light to consume petrol like that.

By the way what is your fuel tank capacity??

I need some help over the selection between xr4 and s.4 vtec2.

Can anyone advise the petrol comsumption and maintence for the 2 models.

Thank you

Mate, you are comparing a dirt bike with lights and a pure road bike. Apples and oranges.

XR4 can cruise comfortably at 80 plus to 90km/h. Anything more and the engine is screaming already. Vibration is also more noticable than in-line-fours. XR4 also does not have ignition key, so security is not that good.

My XR4 with FCR2 carb gets 20km/L consistently. With stock carb, I reckon it's about 23km/L.

Maintenance wise, I don't really see any difference. Being air-cooled, the oil is under much more abuse than the super 4. Assuming oil changes every 3000km compared to 5 to 6000km for the super 4, it adds up to be the same. Spark plugs are cheap, so not really an issue.

XR4 uses sponge air filter (reusable), and valve clearances are easily done (screw and locknut vs shim under bucket).

You can expect to rebuild the XR4 topend more frequently than the super4. So take that into consideration.

But the XR4 can do something that the super4 can never dream of - go off road and play motard. :thumb:

Present: CBR900RRY, Gas Gas EC250, XR250L, XR250RV, XR400 (motard-ed), NX650 Dominator
