Hi all, hope this finds you in great spirits.

I've been mulling over getting a scrambler/ SM for quite a bit now but never really had the necessary information to propel me towards committing to a purchase.

I'm an ex-rider (Cagiva Mito Evo) who has a propensity to ride (very) hard, but have been spending the last few years (5?).... DRIVING. A Civic. HYBRID.

Yes. Very boring.

(On a sidenote, lol, even that tame little creature I managed to race at 200kmh)

Now, due to circumstances, I am car-less for the next 6 - 12 months.. and am SO EXCITED to get back to biking!!! (you cannot imagine the memories flooding back into my head :p )

Sad thing is, I never upgraded my license, and am stuck still at 2B at the age of 27.. heh.

I'm a really very busy person.. (or in alternate perspectives, very lazy), so getting a 2A license in the near future hasn't been mulled upon yet.. unless anyone convinces me otherwise..

So... I have the option of getting a CUB (Honda Wave), a NSR SP, a Phantom200... or a SCRAMMMMMBLER!!

But it's gotta be worth it! Cuz looks like scrams are harder to live with, somehow seem more expensive and I frankly know nuts about them.

If you must ask, I'm thinking.... it must be 2-stroke, for max power, and must be 200cc, for... max power. :o

That leaves me down to WR200 or KTM200.. right?

I don't mind a 4-stroker though, as long as the power difference to the 2-stroker is negligible.. But I doubt that.

Anyways, so why should I get a scrambler over a Honda Wave? What can I do with it?? I wanna trail, trek, jump, fly... generally get really dirty, sweaty and crazy. Where? How? How much? Who?

What about Malaysia too? I really would love to go deep into jungles and go all David Attenborough and Bear Grylls with the native orangutans!!

I'm imagining... hiring a lorry, pile on all the bikes up there, most of us ride in a car, head off into deeper jungles in Malaysia.... Any such group outings??

If so, then I would even dare to buy a FIRST HAND SCRAM TODAY FULL CASSSSSH!!! (lol, please dont hold me to that)

...

So that aside.. then there's the 6-12 month period where I am car-less and need to rely on biking. So obviously, I would like to know if whatever scram I buy, can turn into SM!

"How? Who? Where? What? When? Why?" are all the questions that start to follow.

Let's say I get a 2nd hand WR200, or even XR200 (more economical choice vs KTM200, right?). scrambler version.. How do I go about doing an SM conversion? How much? Where?

And then, when I wanna go smell dirt, how to change back into dirtwheeler?? Do I need to change suspensions too?? Where? Do myself? Have to re-tune the bike? How much are rims and tyres? Need to change brake disc and all also??? etc etc etc...

Cuz the mention of the word "new suspensions" sends shivers down my back since... my Mito Evo.. wah lau eh the memories... $3000?? Better buy a scram + honda wave then..!

Some of you might say "Just don't do SM LAH!" but... I'm pretty sure I'll go back to my old ways and ride hard on the road again, and I better be on road tyres, at the very least.. So if possible still wanna do SM. Looks sibeh sexy oso anyways ^.^

Hope you guys can help me with my questions, cuz I'm sure a lot of other peeps would find all the information useful too! Hope to be part of your community soon!!!

ps:

Looked through some Scram pics... I would only settle for the more fierce looking ones lah don't care what you say: WR, KTM, KDX, GasGas, Husq, etc..

pps:

Can also help list down 1st hand prices of these machines too, since I feel there's not enough going around in 2nd hand market and wanna get a gauge of things...

bro if ur really keen on riding scram...i wud suggest ur go get class 2A den it will definitely worthwhile & settle for XR400 which is to me is very reliable bike...u can covert to sm too but im not sure how much...its fast & quite eco bike...u can get it at abt 3K the least...theres no more 1 hand but i assure u of its engine...if u dont mind splashing some cash...maybe can go for ktm400 or wr400...

But due to ur limited time constraint 6 - 12mth....u can go for ktm2 which is convertible to sm...i hope i help u enough cos i myself aint sure abt the pricing...relatively a newbie...so cheers!
