yeah some mechanics use engine oil. they use a brush so oil will not be applied excessively. this will minimise fling, as well as cut costs as it is cheaper and some reuse old engine oil. problem is engine oil requires more frequent lubing as compared to wax or chain sprays which are designed to stick.

hi,

Why must we clean the chain?

clean it of what?

Y must we delube ('wash' with diesel/kerosene/Wd40) and lube back?

wont it damage the chains or compromise its durability.

isnt it better that the original lube plus whatever you use to lube the chain, be it EO or chain wax add on to the original lube of the chain?

if u are using chain wax/gel or lub that is sticky that prevent fling, other stuff will oso stick to it like sand particles. the sand particles trap at the gap, where the rubber seals are, will wear the seal down over time..

I used castrol chain wax before but its flying off right?? Its kind of irratating when u see ur rims got dirty....

oh no wonder my rear rims are so dirty!! because I see Castrol Chain wax is quite sticky and though it wouldn't fling, now I know the cause of my red turned black rims.

u guys got leave it to stand overnight before riding after spraying ?

i'm using castrol chain spray (not wax) and it doesn't fling much if i leave it on overnight. Only if i ride immediately (noob at first) then my reflective rims is marred.

I left it overnight, but im using castrol chain wax, it looks sticky, i didn't know it'll fling, in the end my rims still turned black. haiZ...

So how do i use Kerosine to clean my chain?? Use thoothBrush???

use a small and clean paintbrush is better. paintbrush hairs can carry more kerosene and is gentle on the chain. toothbrush bristles are short and hard, and can't carry that much kerosene to clean the chain.. if use toothbrush might as well use colgate
