hi

so wanna know how exactly to clean the chain....

so can i spray kerosene on the chain and clean it with a cloth....DEN...muz i clean the chain with soap and water of the kerosene first b4 lubing it?

or i can juz apply the chain lube and i heard ride for a while to fling off the excess kerosene b4 applying the chain lube?

so does riding the bike after cleaning the chain without the lubricant spoil the chain?

1. how often do you lube your chain?

2. is your bike parked in the open

3. what do you use to lube your chain?

Rust occurs when the chain's exposed to air ie. not govered by any lube. Lube gets flung off or washed off. How long that takes depends on what you use to lube your chain. If it's rusting, means you aren't lubing your chain often enough!

If your chain or one of your sprockets is on the way out, you'll find yourself needing to lube more and more often.

I farking hate the lousy farkking weather these days. Riding in the wet too often. Having to ride a filthy bike and the constant chain lubing are really pissing me off.

why don't you install an oiler?

it's better that you lube it while it's still warm. But as long as you don't lube when it's wet, it should be OK.

bikes parked in the open are exposed to rain, dew etc...so lube doesn't stay on. Maybe u should get wax instead?

A good way to do it is to mount your bike on mainstand / paddock stand / car jack so that the rear wheel is lifted off the ground. You can then easily wash your chain.

For me, I put the bike into first gear and let the wheel spin while I spray on the chain cleaner (Plutoline Engine Degreaser - the instruction states that it is designed for cleaning O-ring chains too). Then I let the solvent work in a while, while I wash other parts of the bike. Then I pour generous amounts of water over the chain while using a rag to clean off the dirt (be careful not to let the rag get caught in the chain / sprocket). The bonus is I can put my bike into first or second gear to fling off the water after I rinse off the solvent. And I'll have a warm chain to lube!

Dude,

Some owners manuals recommend cleaning with kero only. I have tried this and due to the extreme humidity and frequent rain the chain rust even if applied every day.

I have been using the following method and the chain does not rust and best of all my polished rear wheel does not get covered in muck.

Get 2 spray bottles (with an adjustable nozzle, like the onr you use when ironing)

fill one with kero (mark clearly Flammable)

fill the other 3/4 or more and mix in some sae-90 lube in it.

after a ride and the chain is hot, jack up the rear, and spray the kero on the chain until the chain is clean. (you can use a paint brush if heavy chain wax was used previously or the chain neglected for a long time) the first clean may take some time.

Wipe the chain with a rag if you want the chain plates v shiny.

Spray your kero-oil mix, do not wipe off excess.

Repeat the kero-oil once a week or once a fortnight. If the chain pins are rusting add a bit more oil in the kero. If you have polished rims wipe with rag with a bit of kero on it.

Should stay looking as good as new.

when rain the chain wash itself (auto wash) we only need to reoil the chain.

No need 2 use kerosene and other stuff unless race bike where u don't ride on the road and keep in the garage

Is this motorex the wax type or the liquid type???Cos i hate those wax type.Used it on my previous chain.Makes the chain sticky and all the dirt get stuck to my chain. And cleaning it takes some time.Even using diesel.

My S4 manual says uses gear oil (#80 to #90) to lube the chain? Any idea what this means? Does Motorex belongs to this grade of oil? I can't find any original Honda gear oil/engine oil; they aren't sold in Singapore right?

80/90W gear oil meaning they have very high viscousity...

chainlube is even better then wat gear oil can do for chain.

applying gear oil on chain is actually a practice use on race machine.

since everyday riding subject the chain to elements of mother nature, dirt, dust water etc....u need protection against all of these to ensure that your chain wont get fooked prematurely

Thanks for clearing my doubts; got puzzled about this for quite a while. So u recommended Motorex, right? Been to Carefour and Giant, don't happen to find this brand. Where can it cheap?

some petrol station do sell tin cans for u to contain the petrol or disel..

cost abt $3+.

best is that u can clean the inside area of the ring so tat it is free from any particles hidden inside..

when it is completely clean, spray a fresh coat of lub and allow it to settle.

for more info u can refer to the articles in the forum...there is a articles on how to lub a chain well..

with diagram to guide u too
