Failed to renew road tax

Dear all,

 

I have a bike that the road tax ends at 4th july and i totally forget. I also fail to receive letter from LTA as i've been moving around and not capable to update my address on time. Anyway i realize this issue last week and i rush to the inspection and today went to LTA to renew my road tax cos it been taged i can't get it done at AXS station. However the officer there says i can not renew my road tax today since this case been sent to court and i failed to be there at 30th August obviously i didn't receive the inform letter. The officer told me just go home and wait the latter of some "notice" from the court then come and pay. I just have few doubts:

 

1)Is it that fast this kind of case been sent to the court (less than two month)? How?

 

2)How is this case might end with? More fine? (plus something on the road tax+late payment fine)

 

I am a EP holder btw.

 

First time facing this kind of thing, many thanks for any information and help.

Funny that LTA doesn't allow you to renew your road tax. I thought pay late fees can renew liao. Lucky that your insurance still valid, otherwise even more jialat...

 

Most important is... don't ride your bike till you can get a road tax proper.

Besides the late fee, the owner of a vehicle is also liable to be prosecuted for the offence of keeping or using the vehicle without a valid road tax under Section 15 of the Road Traffic Act. The offence carries a maximum fine of $2,000 upon conviction in court.

 

It is also a serious offence for anyone to use or allow the use of a vehicle without a valid motor insurance cover. The penalty for this serious offence is a fine of up to $1,000 or to imprisonment of up to 3 months or to both, and a mandatory disqualification from holding a driving licence for at least 12 months, upon conviction in court.

Funny that LTA doesn't allow you to renew your road tax. I thought pay late fees can renew liao.

I also have big doubt about this, i honestly think maybe the officers are NOT FULLY AWAKE at sat morning to dealing things.....Not really believe if every govemental departments pass cases so fast to the court, i think singapore courts should be outnumber 7-11 and can be seen everywhere.....

 

Should i make another phone call to LTA by monday to make sure what is really going on?

OMG...not i get the full story

 

Everything is due to my mistake not capable to update my current address which lead me not receive road tax renewal and i also forget that, then the court inform consideration of the un-rebewal road tax on the road....now i updated my address they told me to wait for the letter from the court....dun know how much it gonna cost me....

Thanks for kindly input guys, appeal can be made after i receive the warning letter form the court? It seems nothing i can do but wait now....Good news is my insurance still vaild.....

stupid system i would say.. LTA and SPF have no links.. i also experienced not being able to renew my roadtax due to ERP offence. best part, i didn't receive any notice. and reason why, LTA left out my unit number on the mailing address. but they are kind enough to waive it off.

 

in malaysia, there's no roadtax.. their road tax is a nominal token sum. and their fines have no due date.

 

as long as you clear your fines before you renew your roadtax and insurance, you are good to drive for another year..

Remember to update your address promptly next time, if not wrong, you must do it within a month else it'll become an offense itself.

It is because i failed to update the address so i didn't receive that....

 

Anyway all i can do is just wait and see how the outcome will be

Your reasoning sounds valid bah. You were unaware, you're an EP (that's one good side-reasoning), and that you were moving around locations i.e. a frequent change of address.

 

Why don't you head down to LTA headquarters at Sin Ming. I'm sure you can explain to the officers there the reason why the road tax wasn't renewed on-time.

 

I wouldn't worry that much if I were you bro.

 

If they still insist on a court meetup, explain to them once more the abovementioned. If not, just humbly attend court and bring your reasoning there.

What has moving around got to do with forgetting to renew road tax?

bro, once you failed to attend court, you will receive warrant of arrest first and with that warrant of arrest, you are supposed to surrender yourself which is to LTA and you will need to bring down a person to bail you out. Charges for failing to attend court is fine at a maximum of 2000 as well. charges for riding without road tax is maximum 1000. But being first time, the judges are usually quite nice, most of them fine about 200 per charges, so it depends on how many charges you are facing. Hope this helps and good luck

Just settle the whole case.....

 

Everything starting with two things: My careless to update address and confuing VICOM

 

The thing is actually i do the inspection last time and the old IU is down, so i took the old IU to VICOM and change the new one and they said i only have to connect it to my bike, no further inspection required and i got my road tax renewed last time. Looks like no problem.

 

WRONG, after that the LTA send out the ticket about not to re-inspect the IU issue and my location problem take over to make it worse....It is nothing to do with this renewal or riding: my bike already been tagged for a while.

 

It's a lesson to learn, and for sure i'll pay more attention from now. In the end it's not nice feeling to pay the fine.

I'm currently in e same situation as u.

I sent my bike for repairs in March which came up to a bomb.

So since my rd tax was expiring n I cudn't pay up e repair costs, I decided 2 leave it @ e shop.

Shopowner said he would help me layup cos I had 2 go 4 overseas attachment for 6 mths.

When I came back to SG early this mth, to my surprise I received a letter to attend court.

Checked w shopowner, he said he overlooked laying up my bike.

He said he would waive for me e storage fee of $50/mth.

Still, I'm pretty pissed.

 

Luckily I came across ur post in my Google search.

To my case is, 100SGD for fail IU inspection (Thanks a lot, VICOM!) and another 200SGD for fail to attent to court. I think with the prove that your've been oversea it should be settle well, still i think it would be better if you can get something to prove it's the shopowner overlooked your lay up request. Wish you get over this smooth and quick.
