Hi there,

just be happy tat it costs tat much. I was quoted, S$295 in Hong Leong(Yamaha agent) n S$250-S$265 in most bike shops. I would change it if I was u. Btw, mine is an '05 carb model. So do not contemplate and JUST CHANGE IT IF IT DEEMS RIGHT!!!

OEM batt's price cost about there...but if u decided to get another option..maybe u can try LAB they got 2 kind ($85 and $150) the $150 is those kind that you pour powder into chemical..and $80 one is pouring liquid into chemical,i am using the $80 one...average usage is 1 - 1.3 years..

-Best to charge it 1 hour before fixing onto your bike.

Alamak, a lot of misunderstanding in this thread. I think what Katana meant was that S4 battery is of lower 'power capacity' probably about 9-10 amps, while the FZ1 battery is of higher 'power capacity', 11.2 amps to be exact. While both are 12v, the FZ1 engine charging may be too high for the S4 battery.....funny things may happen. The battery, lying sideways, may get too hot from overcharging and the lead plates in the battery may 'weaken' and touch each other. If the positive plate and the negative plate touch each other, all hell break loose. There will be a short circuit and the rectifier and alternator may be affected/short circuited and so kaput!

Lab's $85 battery (10.8 amps?) is the normal sulphuric acid maintenance-free battery. You have to pour the acid into the 6 holes, plug in the cover and then use it. So far Racingter has been using this battery without any problem. The FZ1 original Yuasa YTZ 14S battery, some say gel, some say suphuric acid type, is prepared in the factory and sealed up there. It is completely sealed up, with no holes to pour acid into. It is a very high cranking 230? CCA battery. Hence it is expensive.

Although the FZ1 battery is meant to be expensive since it is such a 'good and powerful' battery, some of the shops here are over charging........... So now for the good news. If you fellas intend to buy this battery, one good source is to buy one from the Yuasa office (pls check phone directory for address) in Jurong. Someone has bought it there and the price is so much cheaper (20 to 30%) than Hong Leong, Regina or any bike shop.

So, let's hope my simple kaypo explanation clarifies everything.

ya...well said.

Check ard for options, especially when the battery is not placed vertical in the compartment.

Main issue would also be to ensure that lead acid batteries are left to activate after adding in the acid, then charged up before using.

Check Yuasa website for battery activation instructions or guides...
