What is your opinion if I buy Fazer 1000 for Singapore roads only ie no track and no Malaysia touring. Is it overkill? Thanks for any views.

Dun you feel stupid abt riding a 1000cc bike only S'pore..... I know a rider who spent thousands on a race bike and only rode in S'pore b'cos his mother told him so.... the furthest he has been is to cross the 2nd link to top up petrol and that was only once in his lifetime.....now that's what I call a overkill.....

And dun worry....after you buy the bike.... YOU WILL be tempted to go touring as long as we have Moka in this forum.....:cheeky:

Brader, if you feel like it, get it. I especially hate it when people says, "Singapore so small, how to run?" to riders with big bike. Bullshit! If you give them a big bike, they'll surely take it. Agree? No offence to those who don't. Doesn't matter what people think. What matters is what you think & feel. But seriously, if you do get it, do join us for trips. Make full use of your bike's potential. I like to think of it this way, "If you have a horse, don't make it work like a donkey - Rezdwan 3:16". Enjoy!

Thanks everyone for your great feedback. I was initially itching for a class 2 sportsbike, but since I pillion occasionally, think I will eventually drop the idea. Don't really want my pillion to suffer at my (enjoyment) expense.

So something like the bigger hornet or Fazer seems to fit my bill better. The taller bikes like the AT, Varadero also not quite for me, since I'm not very tall. Also, can't really apprec their looks at this stage.

Will seriously consider the Fazer 1000, cause I really like its looks and reputation. My regular mechanic was advising to get the Honda over the Yam though, as he said the Honda's value holds better. That may be my other consideration.

Honda's value holds!!!!! That's bullshit :nono:..... maybe its true for the 400cc market....but when it comes to the big guns..... nothing holds..... brand new Hornet900 sells for abt $19-20K...Fazer $18K average.... when you sell off after say 2 years..... the Hornet will go for the same price as the Fazer( or maybe even less)... so which holds the value???.... tell your mechanic to think for a moment ... does he know what he's talking abt??? how many Hornet 900 are there on the streets here?? 10?? 15??.... that's the number of Fazers on the forum here alone ...... many more on the streets....

Don't get me wrong.... Hornet is a great bike just like the Fazer..... I had wanted the buy the Hornet too.... but something abt the Fazer that drew me to it.... maybe the looks or the modified R1 engine or the adjustable suspension(which sucks by the way) ... but I know I made the right choice between the two....

My point being..... buy what you really want and like.... don't ask mechanics.... let them do the servicing... and let us enjoy the ride....

So in conclusion..... buy a Fazer and enjoy the ride by joining us for trips..... in Singapore, to Malaysia or even to Thailand......

or buy the Hornet and enjoy the ride with the Hornet's Nest....

0 to 100 km in 3.4 sec in a street bike is very powerrrr.... :thumb:

I'm just sick of most mechanics here.... they are still living in the past and giving wrong infor to ppl, talking bullshit .... but their workmanship isn't improving .... how can they be commending on so many bikes when they've not riden all of them.... :nono:

When bikeshops sell a bike, they say all kind of things like its the best in the world... good resale value.... but when you try to trade in the bike, they say things like no resale value b'cos nobody wants this model bike ..again they sell off that same bike to some poor rider with the same bullshit story(best in the world..good resale value) ... where's the integrity???

I've sorry guys.... just letting off some steam here .... very stressed b'cos didn't go for a long ride in a long time....

Thanks guys. Will consider the Fazer seriously. Another question - can most bike shops here service this bike comfortably, or do u guys bring it back to Hong Leong? I'm riding the specII currently, and most shops can easily work on this bike.

My opinion about Hong Leong's servicing and customer service......

but my sincere truth words.

Their Service is absolute lousy. My 2 cents worth. I experienced once. Never going back there.

I was condemning the mechanics in S'pore.... nothing much...

Anyway... the OEM MeZ4 tire is of a lower quality than the MeZ4 if you buy it off the shelf from the tire dealers.... Metzeler produces lower quality tires so that they can bid a lower tender for the Yamaha, Honda or any other bike makers to use their tires.... even bridgestone, dunlop also does the same thing....

The D208ZR found on the '03 R1 is different than a new D208ZR from the dealer....

I could got all this infor from a racer in S'pore.... how true this is..only God knows...
