Hi mate, i'm David from Indonesia. It seems this forum lot of talk about honda tiger 200cc. Yups, i have this bike too (2005 production). In Indonesia, this was the favorite bike for cruiser/touring and many club & community use this bike. I also follow the community called HTML (Honda Tiger Mailing List). IMHO, this was tough bike for 200cc class. I've been take a journey for 4,670 km with this bike and totally there is no big problem especially for the engine. About my bike, i don't take any modification for the engine only equipped it with accessories. I use Givi E55 Maxia (top case), Givi V35 (side case), Pirelli tyre 110-70/17 (front), 140-70/17 (Rear), Givi universal windshield, Givi Tank Bag, Fatbar handle steer and some of extra halogen lamps. Oh ya, for the headlight, i've change to H4 headlight assy because i need extra lighting for my journey. By using this accessories, the power of bike doesn't increase. I've open the throttle until 140 km/h and it still balance and powerful, only waste a bit more petrol than using standard accessories. Overall, this bike is the best choice for 200cc class who want to enjoy the long journey.

@david_2251 , thanks for sharing. but using the H4 would also mean a higher wattage draw, has this shown to be a problem for the alternator?

Hi nbk3,

Sorry for late reply.

My answers is nope.

Basically it shall be problem with the alternator, since the capacity of battery only 7Ah. I make a little modification in electrical wiring, especially for headlight. To stabilize the power supply, i use relay product, called MX Relay (in boxes state, made in China). Combined of capacitor bank, transformer and switching relay to support the basic lamp relay.

I also make it some comparison. When i ride with H4 lamps by using standard wiring, the voltage decrease became 11.2 ~11.6 Volt. And i assume the batteries will not good charge, because lot of energy waste for the H4 lamps. It will be normal charge if i grab full my throttle (up to 8,000 RPM). That's why i make some wiring modification using MX Relay.

Oh ya, few my friend upgrade the battery to 10Ah. And they said, the electrical still working good too. But, i still curious how can the alternator for 7Ah work to supply 10Ah battery. Still no answers

And thanks to God, until now my alternator still working good. Also the electrical still fine.

Regards,

David H.

a normal battery capacity is 12v, if it reads 11-ish volts while riding, it is highly likely that the drain>charge. meaning that sooner or later, the battery will be fully discharged, unless you ride at times with your lights off :p while riding at RPM >5000, the charge voltage should read at least 13v, this ensures that there is spare capacity in charging the battery

how does a alternator support a 10Ah battery? well, think of the 7Ah/10Ah as a pail. the bigger the number, the bigger the pail. your alternator is just the tap thats filling the pail :) it is restricted to its make/model, some charge faster, some slower due to the design of it.

tiger is 18" rims and im not sure if other 17" rims can be fitted on the tiger. but so far, the 18" rims are working well and dandy.

CBR250 is nice and sporty, tiger will be a decent street bike :) actually, why is 200ns out of ur consideration?

The specs on the Tiger seem to be fuel economical and the likes of the kick/press start, air cooled engine, bigger tank capacity( mine's a Spark!!), 1litre engine oil, speed is good enough (for me-cause i uncle liao!!), lots of aftermarket parts, tyres are cheaper and i trust Honda...

Just hit 10000km mileage yesterday. Shy of a week to be a year old for my tiger cub.:)

Running really good and strong. No regret getting this street bike. Served me really well, rain or shine. Not sure if after a longer riding experience, I tends to hunger slightly more for cruising speed, it use to be 4000-4500rpm of 55-60kmh, but nowadays as the road is empty, I ll still move up to 6000-7000rpm of 70-80kmh. Once on highway, straight and empty, 80-90kmh. Great ride.:)

Feeling Good....collected my Black Tiger yesterday and now cruising at 4-5k rpm, solid looking bike, change the rubbers to Michs feels not bad and am planning to get a set of 17" rims next with Bridgestone's rubbers. Anyone getting rims for their ride?

Hi all. I'm a Tiger rider staying in the East. It is time for my tires to be replaced and I'm wondering where most of you would go to get tires for Honda Tiger. Also, which tires would be suitable for SG roads? Appreciate your kind response.

Hi,

Anyone out there know which is the best lasting spark plug suited for Tiger 200? Currently on NGK one for about $6. I heard iridium base tip is very lasting, but on gereral, how much mileage should we cover b4 changing a new one? Is there a tell tale sign response before we change it?

no need to use iridium ones, waste of money i feel. im using typical NGK ones, DPR8EA ones, LAB $3 each, change every 5000km :) for optimal performance, get your carb tuned properly first :)
