How to change cubs' gear?

I had my first exp with cubs and currently am very unfamiliar with the gear changing. I closed throttle fully while trying to gear up from 1st gear but no matter how hard I kicked the gear didn't kick in. At the same time, the bike also decelerate so much but luckily for me there was no vehicle behind.

 

Do I decrease the throttle slightly before kicking up or simple kick in gear while at cruising speed?

 

PS: Interesting to find out the gear were kind of rotary (N, 1, 2, 3, Top, N, 1, 2, 3, etc).

What bike are u riding Wave?

 

Cub gearing is kick down to up gear...

i guess only spark135 n wave is N 1 2 3 4. while others if im not wrong is normal. 1 N 2 3 4.
