Hi Bro's ~

Need some help here~ Do anyone here face this prob "JIA Engine Oil"~

My bike born in yrs 98. And High Engine Oil Consumption~ Changing every +/- 5000KM.

Alway look into the Mirror and the Engine Oil drop fast.. abt +/- 4000KM it show at lower lever..

What can I settle with this prob???

Leo.

leoman,

not pleasant to read what u wrote...

btw, hope these steps of inspecting helps;

- inspect engine area for any visible engine oil leak, put more attention of top front engine block particularly the cam cover area, if it does leak from under the cam cover, u will need replacement for the cam cover gasket. if it's from the cam shaft area u need replacement for the oil seal.

- inspect final drive shaft connecting assembly linking to gear box for leak, if it does leak it could be deteriorated oil seal, u need replacement.

- inspect oil sump area for leak.

- with engine running, throttle up see if u engine oil burning out from exhaust. hope it doesnt else u will need to rectify this plm by overhaul.

different owner have ways to inspect engine oil level, I will have it park(main stand) over a length of hour, my oil level should be tipping 'H' mark, it will indicate exactly 3.6-3.7ltrs in it, & it should be at mid level few minutes after it settled from warm up.

hope it helps... good luck.

S T had been in s.g for many years and I personally think any workshop can service the bike perfectly without any problem. As the E.O.some brand are not suitable for S T.:goodluck:

exactly.

engine oil reccomended viscosity is any multi-grade of SAE 40, theoricaly motor car engine oil is not suitable to use in motorcycle due to different clutch system, most bikes r using wet clutch(clutch plates soaking with e.o.) system.

motor car engine oil require better friction modifiers that is possible to cause bikes' clutch plates to slip.

i read from this book at kinokuniya that the ST11's consumption is high than BMW's similar CC touring models...

is this true?

a japanese bike with a higher consumption compared to a european bike??

thats something new...

maybe some ST11 riders can give me their average consumption....

cos i really love this bike and im considering getting 1 when i get my class 2...finances permitting!

some low to 12km/ltr, some r as good as up to 23km/ltr, on average most ST1100 owners r getting 15-19km/ltr.

FC vary from how u ride, the route u use & bike's condition/age, fuel quality is an important factor, high RON octane fuel might not improve FC.

hope it helps.

wah...12km/litre?!? thats bad! thats poorer than a 1.3 litre car's consumption!

how about the maintainence?

what are the things that you have to change on a regular basis?

engine oil....tires....what else? how much are they? dont know much about bikes which are shaft driven...

is it using a fuel injector also?

what are the common wear & tear items that has to be changed? how much are those items?

I have been riding my ST for a year now and other than the usual engine oil, oil filter and spark plug change there is really nothing else needed. Shaft driven means no messy and oily chain and best of all no need for chain lube, and not to mention the trouble of occasional adusting of rear wheel due to loose chain.

It is easy to do all the above servicing yourself. e.g. DIY. You might like to look back all posing in this forum for more info on maintainance. It is really time consuming but it is definitely worth it. I am one who read all posting and it has help me with my class 2 bike buying decision.

Hope this little contribution helps.
